Wrestling has evolved.
The Superkkick is no longer a finish. I'm sorry but that's the way it is now.

He’s right about the super kick, everyone does it multiple times a match.

He's right. The repeated suicide dive spots are the lamest, most cringe-inducing shit at this stage. Whenever I see them I can't help but think of how hilariously sad they looked in the first crowdless days at the WWE PC. And almost every match in both companies has one. It's beyond lazy.

I've long since accepted that DDT's and superkicks will never be what they once were, but I agree with the other stuff J.R. said. I've always hated it, in AEW, WWE and indies when everyone does the "stand together and look clueless so they can catch a guy doing his dive" spot. That Bucks match on Dynamite for example, there was exciting moves, but I couldn't help but feel like "I've seen this match a million times before." And there was so many moments where someone kicked out of a big move and I was like "this is being dragged out way too long." They could have cut that match a bit and maybe give the women some more time. But that's just my personal tastes though. I'm in my 20s, but I have the wrestling tastes of "out of touch old people" I accept that not everyone feels that way, and I won't say anything dickish to the people who prefer the more modern style. Also, I think it was one of the most recent if not the newest episode of Grilling JR, and I could tell he even had his coffee or something. Conrad pointed it out too, Jim was all fired up and I loved it. Sometimes on Grilling he sounds like he'd rather take a nap, to me. When he has energy, he's super funny and entertaining. Hell, I'm 39 and a life-long wrestling fan and I'm tired of the endless spots and kick-outs and all that. I want wrestlers to sell more and make the matches mean more than just spot-fests. It definitely explains why I dislike the Young Bucks. I recognize their importance to the wrestling world but I would rather see a technical match with less spots. AEW could use more variation of wrestling styles.

I don't even necessarily disagree with his point but goddamn JR gets on my nerves.

I think the critic of the overuse of the dive into cluster is fair.
Everything else is BS tho and really arrogant.

I mean, if he's tired of wrestlers doing the same spot, he's probably tired of commentators using the same lines.

Are we just gonna ignore that the top babyface has a DDT finisher?

I do kinda agree about the jumping into the crowd spot. Sometimes it’s still cool and sometimes it’s just too much and redundant.
I’ve always viewed a move like the ddt just depends on who’s doing it. Raven or Jake the Snake or Mox, yeah it’s a finisher.
Like a piledriver, many people have used that forever, but it wasn’t their finisher. Mr Wonderful, Terry Funk, nasty piledrivers and were finishers. I saw Eric Young on Impact the other night and he still uses it as a finisher. But it’s never been like, if you use it then it must be a finisher. That’s kinda how I view like the superkick. Sweet chin music was a finisher. Others, just a big move. Like the Bucks just use it as another part of their move set. Idk it doesn’t bother me that much. I guess kayfabe I just see it like one guy has it perfected and pulls it off better. You might do a stunner, but it doesn’t have the same effect as coming from Steve Austin. You might do a superkick, but you can’t do it like HBK. Use the scorpion, but you can’t do it as good as Sting. If any of that makes sense. I still like JR on commentary for the most part, but jeez don’t be bashing your talent and show in public, just doesn’t look good.

A little odd he doesn’t at least acknowledge the fact they do that for safety reasons

Opinions that I pretty much agree with unfortunately smothered in his tangy "My way is the only way, you're all wrong" flavor BBQ sauce.

He has a point, but as always he expresses it in the worst way. AEW would benefit from wrestlers and agents checking spots to make sure that things aren't repeated too often. But there's no need to talk down to the wrestlers like they're little kids that don't know anything.

Didn't the WWF Samoans use superkicks as midmatch moves back in the 90s even while it was Shawn's finisher? I know the shrinkers did it, I'm fairly sure Yoko had a thrust kick too. I think Jr's big problem with his advice, isn't the content, but the tone. When Tony Schiavone wants to help people with promos, he'll give pointers, nudge them while he's out there to keep them standing straight and looking where they're supposed to, while JR seems like he'll lecture people with decades of experience in their own right because they weren't around to see Bill Watt's debute.
I could live without the 'TOPAAAAAY SU-EEE-SEEEDA' spamming, I understand it pops a crowd but it shouldn't be a feature of every other match because, like chairshots, it's going to lose all impact sooner rather than later. If you're going to do these things, make them matter, don't just do them because you can.

I’ll agree with him on the crowd of wrestlers wait to catch a guy jumping off spot
For me if you can’t find a way to make it look organic and safely (I.e time if so they all don’t wait for 10 seconds holding onto each other) then don’t do it because I do think in my opinion that it looks fake as heck
Having said that, does JR feel the same about how bear hugs used to be finishers and even back in the 80s/90s the business evolved and they because a damn rest hold? Probably not somehow

The crowd spot does look doofy but it is technically done for safety purposes so someone doesn't crash and burn, and even then we've seen that fail, look at what happened to McAfee at WarGames recently.
The issue with JR is he always comes off fed up with everything, there are times when he seems genuinely interested in the talent and likes what he's doing and then other times he comes off like this, where some of the things he's saying aren't necessarily wrong but he comes off like such a dick his context is getting lost in that.

Did anyone listen to the podcast? Whilst the rants did get a bit much this week for my taste he did state that even though he strongly believes all of this he understands that he might be wrong.

Not yet but that’s why even if I don’t agree I don’t get too worked up about it as there was a few times in the past when I’ve went damn JR sounds like a douche and then when you hear it you think “Well I don’t agree with him but it doesn’t sound anywhere near as bad when it isn’t written down”
