He's kinda right. Suicide dive, cutter, superkick, Canadian destoyer. All need to be limited, it gets stupid. The timing also has to be better on some dive to the outside spots to stop people looking like idiots.
On the other hand can't protect every big move with so many wrestlers, there'd be no regular moves left. That's why I like aew ending more matches without finishers.

There's an obvious happy medium where one can have exciting ring psychology as well as cool moves, and right now neither Cutler nor JR can see it past their own arguments.
Taichi and Kota Ibushi had a G1 match where it was almost all roundhouse kicks, and it was intense as hell.
Which proves my main point: anything is possible in pro wrestling. Anything.

For some reason I feel there would be a backlash if AEW got rid of JR, like yeah you can bring up his sexist comments he did at All Out for example but some other fans will bring up his recent comments about wrestlers doing the same spots that got Cutler upset.

Lance Storm talked about a similar topic today on his podcast with Alvarez and it doesn't directly have to do with JR but it hits a similar note. He said that veterans in the sport need to do a better job at framing their constructive criticism at the younger talent. Too often he hears someone say "these kids don't know how to work, they're just doing a bunch of spots!" and he gets why some guys won't be receptive to being told the way they worked their whole career sucked. He acknowledged that some of the attitude probably comes from younger talent being jerks to the older guys when they do try to give actual advice but he wants the veterans to be the better men and take the first step. He noted that he prefers when wrestling has more psychology but he knows it's 2020 and fans want to see some cool shit and just wants everyone to find the great medium ground where you do some cool stuff but tone it down enough so that it can mean something and have a story behind it.

I get his point about certain things being overdone, but complaining that DDTs and Superkicks aren't finishing moves anymore is pushing it.
And if you have a problem with constant Superkicks, why the f*** would you work for the Young Bucks?

So I'm not aware of Jim Ross's sexist comments because I'm results-reading only for all of pro wrestling for a few years now, can someone tell me exactly what he said?

I don't remember what he said exactly, but it was something about the looks of Anna Jay. Which is really weird, because even though she is in fact good looking, her good looks aren't really part of her character, she's a total bad ass. If he's going to comment on a woman's looks (which he shouldn't anyway) it should be someone like Penelope Ford who is more of a sexy valet type (even though she is in fact a decent wrestler).

So here we go, some people don't like it, some people do, some people get it, some people don't, some people agree with change, some people want it to be like it was.
So who wins out? Since AEW's formula, where they give some lucha, some japan, some indie, some canada, some old school south, some sports enterainment, has gotten them to be the #2 show on cable on Wednesdays for the demo that gets them paid. This is what makes me so mad about it. People who need things to fit into their perception, and ignore that AEW's success comes from innovation, variety and nostalgia. People who can't accept one, and want to sarcifice for another, well that's a recipe for failure.
Jim Ross' mentality is asking for failure. Not liking something that works for a lot of people is exactly how businesses fail. Innovate or die. And every single wrestling company that doesn't innovate, and replies on old concepts over and over, either dies or sees their ratings plummet.

To be honest I agree 100% on the suicide dives. If it wasn't almost every single match that had them, it'd be fine.
I admit I was disappointed in the Bucks vs TH2 match. little to no psychology and shat all over the Death Roll while they were at it.

On the one hand he is a sexist who doesn't understand today's wrestling, on the other hand he's got a long term contract and you can't fire him. What's a company to do? JR said on his podcast last month that AEW will be his last job in wrestling, he is done in 2022. Stop. Don't. Come back.

Hell when someone asked Jake what he thought about the DDT being a mid match move done by like everyone... his response was more less they haven't been doing it correctly or it would be the end. with the idea being... if you master the move it's a straight match ender. so basically anyone else has figured out how to do pull off the move but the guy using it as a finisher has PERFECTED the move Imagine a segment of Jake trying to teach the DDT to Archer and Archer just keeps getting it wrong. I don't know why I find that funny. Pan back, and there's a couple of dozen jobbers on the floor rolling around clutching their heads...

In roughly the past year and a half he's -joked about 'happy endings' during an either tag or trios match mostly made up of Japanese women -made a sleazy joke about wanting to see Anna Jay have a wardrobe malfunction -mentioned 'bake sales' during an AEW Heels plug And then been a turd on twitter when called out on them.

Is this a forum for pro wrestling fans or for knitting enthusiasts? Never... and I mean N-E-V-E-R... disparage the crafting community again. Those people will leave you in stitches.

At the same time what’s the opposite?
Nobody can use these moves because someone used it as their finisher twenty years ago.
That’s why a lot finishers these days even look boringly underwelming or overly complicated.
I’m surprised he’s not complaining about the amount of cutters being used in AEW these days.

This just reminds you about the amount of bullshit gatekeeping by the old guard to newer generations in pro wrestling.

I didn't feel that responding to it was worth it because it was kind of off topic, but someone in another thread said the other day that noone else should ever use the Stunner as a finisher (or, presumably, as a regular move) because of Austin. Like moves should be retired because one wrestler became sufficiently famous. It struck me as such a silly way to view things. Like wouldn't we eventually run out of moves that way? What finishers are retired in this person's mind, just the Stunner? Or also the leg drog (to be fair, there are health related reasons to maybe not do that move anymore, lol)? The Rock Bottom? The FU/AA? The Figure Four? The Sharpshooter? Damn thats two of an already limited number of submission moves you can't do. Just really weird to me.
