Refresh my memory on Verne and Crockett, please. I know Verne did shit, but I'm blanking on the specifics. And I'm not sure why Crockett is an option, he's the tamest of the ones listed. Of the rest, Jarrett was a cheapskate money mark, Watts was a racist and Vince is Vince, but at least none of them used their kids' demons and eventual deaths to promote shows. f*** Fritz Von Erich.

Fritz by far he did everything short of sell tickets to his kids funerals and he probably wanted to and was talked out of it.

Kevin Von Erich once said that his own dad told him he wished he'd kill himself like his brothers. He is on a whole other level. Not only that. He had the gun Kerry used and told Kevin he didn't have the guts to do the same.

Now, it seems like we all agree that Fritz is on a whole other level, to say the least. But...as far as his exploitation of his sons' deaths and more...how would that compare indeed with the times WWE did it? (granted, they didn't try to sell fake autographs of Eddie or Paul. But using them in an attempt to advance storylines after their passing?)

Vince's interview with Pillman's wife, the day after Pillman died, was pretty damn scummy.

Bill Watts is the biggest scumbag. Arn Anderson, Eric Bischoff, and Jake Roberts have nothing but awful things to say about his tenure in WCW. Wrestlers in WCW signed hefty contracts. When Watts was hired, he would get a percentage of any money he saved WCW. Watts told the wrestlers: Either you renogiate your contracts for far less money or I'll job you out week after week. You'll get pinned cleanly in the middle of the ring. You'll get embarassed and your stock will drop.
He also banned top rope moves so it effectively handcuffed wrestlers like Brian Pillman and Jushin Thunder Liger in their match-ups.

I have trouble imagining anything will top poor Mike von Erich being dragged out in front of cameras not long after suffering legitimate brain damage, and trying to market off the kid while he can barely string together a sentence. Then later having the gall to do a fake heart attack angle the same year Mike killed himself.
There's a unique callousness to Fritz in how he exploited his sons that I don't think will ever be matched.

Kevin Von Erich will forever haunt me with this quote. “I used to have five brothers. Now I’m not even a brother.”
Fritz was a terrible man and the world was better when he left.

Why is Jim Crockett Jr. on this list? Maybe just since he was a big one, but yeah, he didn't really do anything on the level of most of these. Similarly, I don't think Jerry really fits, either. Like, yeah, people didn't get big payoffs in Memphis unless they were the top guys, with the flipside being that it was probably easier to get booked there than some other places, plus a lot of potential to learn and network. I guess the way he got control of the territory could count, but Gulas had f***ed him over, previously, so it's not really anything I feel too bad about. As for the poll question, it's definitely Fritz. He makes Vince look like a choir boy, which is saying something.

Of the rest, Jarrett was a cheapskate money mark, Watts was a racist and Vince is Vince, but at least none of them used their kids' demons and eventual deaths to promote shows. f*** Fritz Von Erich. Off of the top of my head, I know Verne tried to pay Iron Sheik 100 grand to injure Hogan in WWF to try to punish him for leaving the AWA. Sheik really would have had zero difficulty doing it, despite the size Hogan had on him, but thankfully as far as Hogan and Vince would be concerned, Sheik told Vince and didn't take him up on it. He also banned top rope moves so it effectively handcuffed wrestlers like Brian Pillman and Jushin Thunder Liger in their match-ups. I seriously disagree with how Watts did it, but he also was hired to do a job by Turner. WCW's expenses were out of control, and shitty as it was, it was that or fire a shitload of people. As for the top rope, the plan supposedly was that things had kind of gotten out of control, and was an attempt to go back to basics, as well as give heels more options to cheat creatively. Unfortunately, Watts was a goddamn dinosaur, and this just made WCW's issues worse. He was definitely a bully and a shithead about lots of other things, though, like requiring everyone to stay until the end of tapings even when they had finished up and really had no reason to need to stick around. I mean, that plus the whole "saying racist shit" thing. In any case, he failed to solve some of their biggest problems, like house show attendance being miserable because name talent often just didn't bother to show up since the gates would suck, but the gates sucked because nobody of consequence were often there and like half the card would be changed. This is something WCW suffered from until the doors shut for good.

If Fritz wasn't such a scumbag and enabler Im thinking 4 of the 6 sons who died would still be here. (I still think David s death was drug related)

My favorite is that Watts threatened Brian Pillman with getting buried unless he renegotiated his large guaranteed contract that he signed with Kip Frey. Pillman didn't care, wouldn't renegotiate, and started doing jobs. And then finally Watts flinched and started pushing Pillman again.

One wrong bump and...you can guess the rest. All he had to do was say that the LHW division would be like the "NWA Rules" and all flying manuevers were allowed.

my gut feeling was Vince.... but after reading here what Fritz did the territory days were before my time Vince, though, is sometimes more like than unlike Fritz. Sure he treats his kids better outside of the outrageous angle or two, but he's just as guilty as using the deceased for a buck. Still, Vince also has done things redeeming from time to time. If you have similar info about Fritz, I'd love to hear it.
