I feel like Cody winning by rollup was completely unnecessry when we had the exact same finisher in the tag match

I'm ok with it if this leads to Penta winning the next match and then the potential blowoff
It's clearly far from over, with Penta celebrating post match at how he punked Cody out, but I feel like they're going the route they did when Penta lost to Fenix, and then he just turned around and destroyed him in the rematch
Penta's a showstealer, I think AEW's seeing that now. beating Cody would be the thing that takes him to that next level, the story of his own cockyness getting into check and being his downfall is the thing right now. Focused Penta wrecks people. He needs to tap into that LU energy.

No one has really taken him out so if Penta can do that, he's star made

The Cody fatigue is REAL. He needs a decent break and Penta would be perfect to give it to him

For the first time in a long time it feels like Cody is just aimless.

Said it in the main thread, said it in a few threads really, but:
Cody doing all of these "Oh, I just barely won even though my opponent looked way better" finishes is devaluing him more than it's making his opponents look good. His victories off that nonsense negate any amount of selling that he did to put over his opponent.

Like I said in the thread, that ending stretch just did nothing for me.
In a span of about three minutes:
1. Penta kicked out of two of Cody's biggest moves (Cross Rhodes and Vertebreaker) and escaped the figure four, all with very little build up,
2. Penta hit the arm breaker, which Cody barely had time to sell before
3. Cody gets the quick rollup pin, using the injured arm.
It just felt a lot like they were doing the moves for the sake of doing the moves, without the storytelling or psychology necessary to make it look good.
In hindsight, it kind of felt like Cody was trying to tell the story of a 60 minute Broadway in 15 minutes, and the finish just felt like everything was thrown in at once with no room to breathe.

I absolutely hated that he did the arm snap and then Cody immediately reverses using both arms for a roll up. That shit is trash honestly.
Yeah Cody might lose to him at some point but that shit sucked

Here's another thing:
Even if Penta wins a rematch, this match did nothing for either of them.

Thank goodness for the main event because if this was the headlining match of the night, I would have came away with a nasty taste from this show.

Just infuriating. You manage to completely shit all over the story you’re trying to tell in a matter of seconds. Zero psychology. Hated that finish so much.

Here's another thing: Even if Penta wins a rematch, this match did nothing for either of them. I see the logic in it to make a feud even if it could have been done better like Cody using his good shoulder to force all his weight on the rollup, but it gives Penta all the more reason to want to destroy Cody that Cody got the first win. The story they wanted to tell from what I could see was Penta lost because he got cocky. I get it sucks Cody rolled him up after the Arm Snap, but that's not a KO move, and Cody took advantage knowing he was f***ed if Penta hit the package piledriver. There's enough layers to this where I feel like you can at least have a worthwhile feud, so long as the endgame is making Penta a main event fixture through Cody, and showing when his eye is on the prize he's one of the most dangerous men in wrestling, like how he killed Fenix.

I’m pretty sure Cody will be going away by the beginning of the summer to be with Brandi. He definitely feels aimless as a character now.

Cody looked like a chump while Penta looked like a cool badass who was just taking the piss with him at the end by wearing the green hat.
I refuse to believe that was accidental.

That's my thing, if Penta ain't sweating this loss then they definitely really ain't selling this as a big Cody victory as more Cody escaped. It almost feels like he's playing with his food.
