The reaction to this has been so weird. Even Alvarez, who I usually agree with. “If you didn’t like it, don’t watch Dynamite”. Wtf bro..? I get it. I love AEW too and the company gets a lot of unfair shit but c’mon. At least Mike seemed reasonable. Many things can be true and don’t let the other extreme end push you to the opposite end.

I feel like the hype around this one got a lot of people defensive and digging in more than usual. It's been weird. It'll be interesting to see what the discourse around this company looks like in 5 years when the bloom's off the rose more than it is now.

The only showing what was happening on the roof really did go on too long. I remember at some point you could faintly see Hager had someone in the ankle lock and like, are we just not supposed to see it as a possibility that that could've been a submission?

That bugged the shit out of me too when he said that, although Bryan is bad for mincing words when he’s ranting at douches and talking to people with legit complaints. Totally agreed with everything Sempervive said today tho. Match was awesome, finish was hokey, both opinions can exist together and main point should be it was a really good match EDIT: F***ing Sammy man. That dude went for broke. Hope he gets MJF at DoN

It sounded more like to me his issue was with people complaining Jericho landed on a crash pad... and having seen the people Alvarez usually interacts with I can believe that he isn't hearing complaints from people in the board

It sounded more like to me his issue was with people complaining Jericho landed on a crash pad... and having seen the people Alvarez usually interacts with I can believe that he isn't hearing complaints from people in the board Can't forget that Alvarez is usually reacting to Twitter, the place where, regardless of whatever your passion might be (wrestling, sports, politics, music, etc.), you'll only be served the loudest, most obnoxious, most piping-hot takes and general douchebaggery. Probably gets easy to lose patience with that. I really loved most of the match; I think what did it for me most was that it actually felt like a fight. There were some big spots, for sure, but from the opening seconds you had Sammy and Dax just clubbing the shit out of one another and falling to the mat to throw more haymakers. Hagar and Wardlow did their power stuff, but did it mostly to toss people the hell into the cage, or just whatever else could cause more pain. There's too much of a tendency nowadays to focus on the spots in big gimmick matches, and having a blood feud where the participants actually act like that's what it is just works so much better. It even helps excuse a lot of the botches that invariably happen in a match like this: the messier it looks, the better and more "real" it feels. The ending, yeah, camera work should've been better, but I can't say it bothered me. Other best aspect is that Sammy was given a huge platform to get over here and took advantage of it. Loved Wardlow's late match comeback for the same reason: dude just giving a reminder that he's an absolute destroyer, before it took just about the entire Inner Circle to take him down. And yeah, MJF already was, but now is the undisputed biggest piece of shit in all of wrestling, just as he was meant to be. I continue to dream of the day that he cuts a smarmy in-ring promo in front of a crowd in a "smark" city like NY or whatever and gets interrupted by Jay White's theme, so I can see those two try to out-worst-human-being-on-Earth one another.

I think the ending reaction is probably overblown to be honest. I mean, yes, after rewatching it, it should have been shot better. However, it didn’t ruin anything. The match and show was still fantastic.

Also it didn't help they legit threw a guy down stairs like 45 minutes before hand, which was another reason the crash pad spot was a bit underwhelming.

Ya know, I hadn’t thought of that but in hindsight that was very stupid having both in 1 night I'm still trying to figure out how a guy being thrown down concrete steps detracts at all from a man being thrown off a 20 foot cage through a floor Both things are incredibly different events that also happened under incredibly different circumstances. And Darby's been cleared to wrestle next week.

I’ll compare it to UFC, when there are two incredible, violent never before seen knockouts one inevitably gets forgotten in time because they both happened on the same show. Darby being cleared doesn’t help this. If the dude isn’t doing an injury angle then there definitely was no need to do both stunts the same night.

The stunt seems to be to help him lose the belt. He's flown to close to the sun and Miro's come to collect at Darby's worst possible moment.

Not sure why this was ever on normal tv especially with a PPV weeks away. AEW doesn't make sense sometimes with the matches they load Dynamite with and the ad breaks were annoying as hell.
The match was what you would want though I guess although I would probably have gone another way to really build the pinnacle as bastard heels, but the ending did cement MJF as the #1 heel.

TV is substantially more important for modern wrestling companies than PPV. Big matches need to happen on TV semi-regularly. Granted, I don't think that Blood & Guts was really suited for it, but that's the logic.

I appreciate that, but for me you would have had a couple more weeks of back and forths, perhaps FTR v PnP and ended with that at the PPV.
