That one suggestion would have gone a long way. It’s a production/quality control thing. They could have also done it like WWE and just made that whole portion of the stage collapsible and had Jericho fall through it ala the Jeff/Orton Swanton. Lighting was definitely a big part of the issue here. WWE tends to do the stunts in darker areas of the stage, using darker materials. This was perfectly lit, clearly shot and it exposed all the strings. Trying to make it look like the steel grating was real was a mistake, you could actually see a piece or two look like it was waving in the wind.

AEW would have been fine if they just used hay.

I feel like they've pretty much boxed themselves into a corner at this point because either Hangman loses the belt at Full Gear in his first major defense after winning it, basically rendering the years of build utterly pointless, or he holds it for awhile in which case MJF ends up like a year removed from this in actually benefitting from it. AEW's slow storytelling really makes it hard to see big moments like this as all that big because they always cool off before they're followed up on.

And then he’ll either lose it back to Hangman or they’ll use it as a way to position Jungle Boy as the 1b to Hangman 1a “long term/future face of the company” - and MJF will still keep all his heat because he’s that goddamn good. Greatest pure heel since Andy Kaufman. Been saying it for years. Even better than Hollywood Rock.Don’t @ me. ... Dem’s fighting words cause Hollywood Rock is my GOAT but I can’t disagree. MJF reached another level by the end of the match. I generally disliked the Rock during his time with the E...but Hollywood Rock was the one iteration I thought “yeah ok this dudes pretty good.” But he was still the catchphrase spewing walking t-shirt machine he had become up to that point. Only he was meant to be booed now. MJF isn’t that kinda heel. Never will be. I think he’d be shoot pissed if he became that kinda heel. I’ve been watching this stuff for 30+ years and I’ve rarely - since I “smartened up” to the business - had consistent ‘I want this dude to die’ reactions like I do with ol Maxwell. Not the “god I’m tired of this guy/this guys booking” reaction but legit, visceral hatred that lets my inner-pre smartened up mark come out every now and then. And tonight he leveled up. Dude gets it. And Tony - as a fan of the business first and foremost - sees that, gets that, and books to the strengths of it. TL/DR; he’s a heel god and the Forbidden Door is a booking savant

Yeah, I watched that live that was f***ing so lame EDIT: I was in high school for the Rikishi bump, I just remember my friends and I thinking it was so lame.

AEW would have been fine if they just used hay. This almost killed Rikishi for real though(as kid I actually enjoyed that bump despite JR saying it was a chokeslam when it was just Taker pushing Kishi)

Angle was what the angle was, but I'm gonna be honest with you
The fall looked brutal, no matter what the floor was inevitably made of.

Nobody talking about the numerous unprotected chair shots to the head in this match?

Nobody talking about the numerous unprotected chair shots to the head in this match? The chair was gimmicked, it's why the Spears logo was on it. The material was probably incredibly light

Folks, you know there’s a difference between saying the bump looked shitty and saying “f*** it, shouldn’t have protected Jericho. Throw him to the ground!!!” The crash pad isn’t the issue, of course you’re gonna protect Jericho. The issue was it was poorly executed. If I’m disappointed with a magic show because the magician did a shitty job of hiding the gimmick for his tricks it doesn’t mean I actually want someone cut in half, I want the illusion protected. I didn’t see it as that big a deal but I can see why people did. Honestly, I guess I’m just used to how TNA f***ed stuff up and people’s reaction to TNA f***ing stuff up where I’m worried that people are just going to give up on it after a while because, even if they aren’t nearly as bad, they’re still screw ups. It’s really silly and I need to learn not to take it that way (and it also doesn’t matter because AEW is in a better, more stable spot than TNA was with Spike) but that’s my fear with this stuff. AEW's a two year old company still growing, still learning and still having firsts for literally everything. I think the judgment people cast on them comes with how much they've grown which comes with lofty expectations but WWE and WCW weren't built in two years, and AEW frankly, has well exceeded all expectations and if you were to compare how every company started in this window, AEW might be one of the top. Mistakes are going to happen, I really dont think the fall was a huge deal though of course fans will try and make it out to be. This wasn't the revolution ending, Jericho fell 20 feet, you can't fake that no matter how hard you try. If fans didn't leave after the Revolution finish, I don't think they're going to leave now, because they see AEW genuinely does care and wants to get better. Where TNA... well... was a mess, run by someone who was probably one of the most incompetant owners of a wrestling company in history. AEW isn't going anywhere, Blood and Guts was good, if people didn't like the fall it is what it is, but I'd personally rather AEW be safe than sorry. I never want to see what happened to Matt Hardy happen ever again.

Fans who went to the show tonight enjoyed the Jericho fall, so cameraman screwed up tonight while live audience pretty much enjoyed the overall match and post match

The real Blood & Guts was the commercials interrupting the picture-in-picture.

I thought it was insane as an 8-year-old though. Oh man just thinking about some of the awful Hardcore Matches Modern WWE has done... Eye for an Eye Hell in a Cell stopped for excessive violence John Cena dropping like 10 chairs on Wade Barret, who was under a table, so the chairs didn't even touch him Whatever the hell Brock/Ambrose was. Compared to that shit a crash pad floor seems moot...
