that I can understand the thought process of the decision, if they could make a destiny/gta online/cod: warzone/fortnite/world of warcraft/final fantasy online and so on then they could potentially make a fortune, more than a single big hit AAA game that they could bleed as a franchise. but that genre of game has a big graveyard of failed attempts, "marvel's avengers" and ea's "anthem" are two big examples that failed almost immediately and so many that people dont even remember were released. hell even the successful ones experience big user number drop off mid/tail end of season or post big expansion (usually once everything has been done in the season/expansion.) and I dont see WBD seeing the regular number drop as a good thing and throwing pressure on the gaming arm on getting the numbers back up or to make up lost revenue with the stupidity of microtransactions for already in game things (again Destiny, fortnite & warzone are terrible for microtransaction cosmetic items that do nothing in game other than change your character look but it's optional and not forced down your throat to be must have.) and I have no doubt WBD would insist on pay-walling content behind microtransaction content despite it failing when attempted in other games. it's a stupid move to put all your eggs in one basket in this way, but can understand the thought process of "we should make a successful live service game"

"Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a massive flop. Let's keep doing that." Even Ubisoft isn't this stupid.

In fact, I think mine probably has a better chance of succeeding.

It's also worth noting that "where's our answer to Fortnite" has a not-zero chance of ending the exact same way that "where's our answer to The Avengers/MCU" already has, even without pointing out they've already swung and missed once with Kill the Justice League.

Zaslav is going to continue to scoop up as many big paydays as he can until the shareholders force him out. Which, of course, will be accompanied by a very generous severance package.
