Again I'm not as hard on Kross as most of FAN, but I think tonight should be a wake up call. He'd be fine as an upper midcarder, but him as champ's just not working out. Him killing the crowd dead every time he was on offense in there was super awkward. Honestly, though? It didn't matter to me who was walking out as champ, I have very little interest in NXT's main event scene right now. At the very least, they should've spent more time building him instead of just shoving him right into the main event. I think he's a decent hoss with a good presence and a good look, but the worst possible reaction you can get from a live audience is the one he got tonight. Something needs to change.

I mean...why should we dislike Kross? What about him is heelish? He wins is matches legit so should I be mad at that? Should I be mad that he has an attractive wife? Should I be mad that he's got the world title rightfully so? Shoudl I be mad that he doesn't back down to challenges? The guy's got no real reason for me to dislike him. And THIS is a bigger issue then simply people hating Kross for just being. This is the issue with NXT it is wrestling...with very little character work across the board. You asked the perfect question why should anyone hate he and scarlett? it was understood when he first showed up and just killed Ciampa but ever since he has just been a man of his word and backed it up. We IMO have reached a point in NXT where there is far too much grey area.

I said it in the thread, but Kross's entrance is emblematic of the bigger problem with him. You've got all this big flash and pomp, really trying to make him look like a huge deal... but his actual contribution to it is just kind of stomping around waving his arms about with no real rhyme or reason or connection to anything. The least interesting aspect of Karrion Kross is Karrion Kross.

Also I can't remember the last time I've heard a crowd see where a finish is going and preemptively "awwww booooooo" and then go awkwardly quiet when they're right.

I don't think the problem is that a lot of people hate Cross. The problem is people don't feel anything about him either way. Him being a tweener doesn't help matters.

I'm digging Kross at the minute and I'm glad he won. He just GETS the character/presentation stuff. The other 4 in the ring... They're just regular guys. Wrestling should be more than that. I really can't agree with this at all... (I didn't watch tonight so maybe it's changed) but his character seems so detached from literally anything that we see from him in the ring and elsewhere it may as well not actually exist. He writes pages and pages of explanation of character notes but like... if they never come up on screen they're pointless. for instance Gargano is a smarmy douchebag with a hero complex and that comes through in almost literally everything he does including how he acts in the ring. I don't get that at all from Kross.

I don't think it helped that they were going all-in on the Lesnar booking with him tonight and I don't think that's something that would EVER fly in NXT. Like just straight up, up until the bit where Dunne kicked the shit out of him everything he did was he'd come in, effortlessly destroy everyone with a bunch of suplexes, then go take a nap on the floor for a bit.

He does mildly spooky stuff. Has a bad ass entrance. A cute wife. Makes crazy faces. Then he wrecks fools.

He should have murdered all those guys in ten minutes. He dwarfed all of them. And what happened to Adam Cole? He clearly has stopped working out he looked like a fan. Dude needs to ask Dunne for his workout regiment

Johnny and Cole have been in the title scene for 100 years. Dunn and KOR are just kinda boring, I could see them getting a run but it shouldn’t come in a multiman match. Really you could see this coming from a mile away.

If he was on the main roster everybody would love him Honestly I don't think being removed from NXT would do anything whatsoever to resolve my broader problem with him that his character's a bunch of poorly-defined stock badass tropes clumsily smashed together then he gets in the ring and just puts people to sleep.

If he was on the main roster everybody would love him Yes he would because all the smoke and mirrors would work to his complete favor....and to his strength like I have been saying which is his character. He would likely be cutting alot more promos which would better get across his entire persona which is something NXT is and has been strongly failing at especially with him.

Besides Grimes the crowd really didn’t care about anything until the main event picked up.

It's funny always hearing about how this guy just "gets character" when he basically only has a flashy entrance, a catchphrase, and a sexy (and magical?) lady by his side. He's basically NXT's answer to Triple H in every bit of presentation, which explains why he's getting the big push out the gate. The only character actually presented is the loosest definition of vaguely apocalyptic, pseudo-mma, badass tough guy, who occasionally speaks as if he's reading off the lyric sheet off of his favourite death metal band. Gee, I can't imagine why this sort of gimmick doesn't relate to the average person? It's almost like the Triple H model of character building has never worked.
He's just another symptom of the main roster-fication of NXT that's been happening over the past year, or so.

Hearing the crowd go just completely silent when he won was wild. I know they weren't great tonight but goddamn you could hear a pin drop.

I think when people in creative see Kross they were expecting someone who could get over like Goldberg or Ryback did. But those guys were given time to gain momentum and also I think their moves just looked more impactful that Kross's moveset looks (really aside from him attacking Balor when Scarlet got hurt he knocked down he hasn't really looked that intense in execution). But again, you also have Dunne and KOR white hot for months and that contributed as well
