Hollywood needs to stop trying to make Phoebe Waller-Bridge a thing as it aint going to happen. Are they actively trying to? Is there some PWB megapush that I missed? Granted, between this and Solo she might want to reconsider next time Disney come calling, but she seems to be doing pretty well for herself as a screenwriter and producer.

America went nuts over Fleabag and offered PWB co-writing/script doctor positions on movies, most notably No Time To Die. Oh, and I suppose they've cast her in some things. She doesn't seem to be one of the lucky Brits to transition well to the States.

I know that chase scenes are kinda the meat and potatoes of Indiana Jones action sequences, but they seemed somehow both excessive and overly plain.
I enjoyed the movie. Great popcorn flick. Sometimes I get caught up in thinking that a movie needs to be "more" than that. But at the end of the day, they really don't. It's just a movie.

Holy shit, this movie came and went.
At least Crystal Skull had some staying power in pop culture for being crappy.

I wonder if this will get more of an audience via home media (dvd/streaming). With home release, I doubt it. As mentioned elsewhere, there was a time when movie would get a second life, especially with rentals, the reason why stuff like Austin Powers would find an audience. Streaming effectively killed this, but film companies for years basically tried to say that the theater was the only medium you should watch movies in. Growing up, we were exclusively renters due to not having the funds to go to the cinema. And with hardly anyone buying DVDs or Blu rays any more, I think this was probably it.

I see Applebees is doing a thing where if you spend at least $35, you get a free ticket to watch this

Probably more accurate to say the advent of every studio having a streaming service killed it. Back when there was just Netflix and Prime as the only major players in the game studios could at least count on a bidding war for the streaming rights, which could help alleviate the damage caused by the near death of physical media market. Now movies still get a streaming rights fee paid for, but as we saw with the release of Black Adam's financials, it basically boils down to one conglomerate moving money between two or more of its subsidiaries (in this case Disney Streaming to Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures) and classifying it as revenue.

Saw it yesterday and like, it's nothing revolutionary and wasn't worth the astronomical amounts of money they spent on it, but it was a fun watch and a better place to leave the series than Crystal Skull, even if 90% of the hate for that film because it included unrealistic 50s pulpy elements (aliens/surviving nukes in silly ways) felt like a weird reaction considering what was in the older instalments (magical religious artifacts melting peoples faces off/literally everything else holy shit this is a pulp series of nonsense for the sake of fun). {Spoiler}{Spoiler}So spoilery thoughts, killing off Mutt felt like a good choice, and Indy gets a better flawed character to be a father figure to anyway. Thought Waller-Bridge did a good job in her role, there's aspects of Indy's backstory in hers with the father obsessed with an artifact (though to destroy it rather than keep it) but her more mercenary nature gives a whole new spin on it.
Biggest missed opportunity felt like Shaunette Renée Wilson's character, we never really got much of an explanation of why she was working with the Nazis beyond that Schmidt was respected, and then she's killed off rather unceremoniously without much impact on the plot.
Olivier Richters (the big nazi) is probably gonna turn up in WWE at some point, isn't he?
Also honestly I really just enjoyed how the Mads Mikkelsen character was basically just Wernher Von Braun with the serial numbers filed off, especially with this going out under the Disney banner considering how he and Walt worked together.

Yikes. I don't know what lesson to learn from this, as I can't think there's another legacy franchise out there to milk.

Yikes. I don't know what lesson to learn from this Here's the lesson: Fire Kathleen Kennedy Why? She produced a film that by all accounts is better than the last one. The last one written, directed, and produced by Lucas and Spielberg. Not her fault that Disney demanded their IP be exploited in a market that didnt demand it. And a market tainted by the last crappy film. She did her job well, produce a good film. Fire some execs.

Fire no one and just accept that the franchise peaked with Dr Elsa Schnider banging Indy, his father, and probably Sallah too.

Moreover, Kennedy's on a roll. The sequel trilogy took $5 billion at the box office and 12 Academy Award nominations. Rogue One took a billion and a raft of award nominations. The Mandalorian has been a massive success both critically and commercially. Book of Boba Fett wasn't a critical success, but had strong viewing numbers. Obi-Wan Kenobi was Disney+'s most watched show last year and has been nominated for an Emmy. Andor had middling viewing numbers but was critically adored and has dozens of award nominations and wins. On the other hand, Solo underperformed and Dial of Destiny is badly struggling, a few announced projects fell apart for various reasons, and a bunch of YouTube grifters have made angry videos.

At the end of the day, her job was to make sure the movie was successful, and along with a few other movies under her vision, they failed. If there's someone else he had more responsibility that is fireable, then that works too.
