Always a shame to see a career cut short. I saw him play a couple of times at youth level and he was phenomenal, but his injuries made sure he never came close to fulfilling his potential. Looks like there's some good out of this, hopefully he'll be good at coaching. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62129632

after a month of deciding on Premier League teams, I just settled with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. They’ve got players I like and their fanbases seem rather passionate. I think Tottenham will be real strong this season. They ended last season in good form and have made some good looking signings. City and Liverpool are on another level to everyone else but I can see Spurs with Conte for a full season comfortably being the best of the rest and finishing 3rd. I’m assuming/hoping Spurs have a great top 3 season and also at least make it to the final 8 of the Champions League.

It's strange but for as great of a league manager as he is Conte has always had a pretty poor CL record. He's only won 12 out of 34 matches in the competition. His best ever performance is the quarter finals and he's been knocked out in the group stages 3 times while managing teams who at the very least would have expected to make it to the knockout rounds.

That's either the worst miss in the history of football, or the most blatant attempt at match-fixing.

Not taking anything away from their performance tonight but that was a very, very unexpected score line. Norway were one of the favourites for the tournament before the England match and although England were probably expected to get a win, it was on paper by far their hardest group match and a win by one goal seemed the most likely outcome. Being the host nation will undoubtedly improve England’s chances this tournament and they’re probably (now anyway) the favourites but there’s some very strong sides like Sweden, France and The Netherlands (who are the defending champions) still in the competition.

To be fair, the best way to come back after criticisms of a scrappy first game win is to promptly kick the shit out of one of the favorites in the tournament in a football stomping that makes the Brazil/Germany WC match in 2016 look like a regular every day occurrence.

I'm going to make the bold prediction that the Sterling to Chelsea move is actually happening. Might be wrong here.

Curious seeing reactions from both Man U and Liverpool fans after United's 4-0 preseason win.

Curious seeing reactions from both Man U and Liverpool fans after United's 4-0 preseason win. Ii’s never nice to lose to United and especially not by four goals but it is what it is, one of those meaningless pre-season “trophies”. These results are very rarely an indication of how the actual season will pan out. Three years ago Liverpool lost three pre-season games in a row and went on to win the league with seven games to spare.

So I should know about that meaning diddly squat.

Curious seeing reactions from both Man U and Liverpool fans after United's 4-0 preseason win. Man Utd basically kicked a ball into a net four times while Liverpool were having a training session.

Barcelona looks like they’re about to get Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in a transfer, per ESPN sources. Barcelona: "We are more than €1b in debt, owe 19 clubs for unpaid transfer fees, can't afford to pay Frenkie De Jong the €17m in deferred wages and bonuses we owe him, and could cease to exist before the middle of the decade." Also Barcelona: *spends €108m on Lewandoski and Raphinha*

After at one point being linked with City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool and others, Koulibaly has joined a club he was also targeted at several times, Chelsea.
Today is a day of mourning for the gossip sections.
