Barcelona looks like they’re about to get Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in a transfer, per ESPN sources. Barcelona: "We are more than €1b in debt, owe 19 clubs for unpaid transfer fees, can't afford to pay Frenkie De Jong the €17m in deferred wages and bonuses we owe him, and could cease to exist before the middle of the decade." Also Barcelona: *spends €108m on Lewandoski and Raphinha*
Barcelona are victims of their own policy. They're success was built around blending in-house talent from La Masia with savvy South American signings, but since Bartomeu came in they've been fixated with star power signings regardless of how well they fit into the team. They didn't find the success with them and doubled down year after year and only made things worse.
They need a back to basics approach. Rely on the La Masia kids for a while, build some foundations and once the finances get sorted build again. Kinda like when Chelsea had that transitional year with Lampard blooding Abraham and Mount into the first team.

After at one point being linked with City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool and others, Koulibaly has joined a club he was also targeted at several times, Chelsea. Today is a day of mourning for the gossip sections. The Blues are quietly building up a formidable championship-caliber side

I think Jesus and Zinchenko will be two really good signings for Arsenal. Saliba back from loan. Fabio Vieira looks to be very promising. All their other young players who were already starting have a year more experience now too. Other than the dark cloud hanging over one of their key players apparently being in legal trouble it's probably the strongest Arsenal have looked since Wenger left.

Spurs signed Djed Spence to a 5-year deal, and I think he’ll be a good addition for them.

Be pretty happy if the Zinchenko deal goes through. Can play a variety of positions. I’m a big fan of Tierney’s but his injury record worries me. That being said I can see Zinchenko wanting to leave Man City because he wants to play in midfield more so thinking that’s likely where he will be starting. Especially since Xhaka & Partey are so inconsistent/always injured.

Nothing on Ronaldo yet, it seems.

Nothing on Ronaldo yet, it seems. I don't think anyone wants him. At least not the big CL teams who could afford him and he'd be interested in. There's only what, 6-7 teams he could realistically go to? His agent has been shopping him around to Bayern, Chelsea and Atletico in particular in the past week or two but they've all made it clear they're not interested. Pep would have taken him last year but I don't think he would now after getting Haaland. Perez doesn't want him back at Madrid. Even if the Barca board could afford him and wanted him their fans would probably protest against the move. He's not going back to Juventus and the other big Italian teams couldn't afford him. PSG have unlimited money but they're not interested either. There's just nowhere for him to go. It looks like he's going to have to see out the last year of his contract at United. I do wonder if he made it clear earlier that he wanted to move if he'd have had more success. He waited until late June to leak these stories. Who knows, maybe if he said immediately after the season ended in May that he wanted to go Bayern would have taken him as a short-term 1-2 year Lewandowski replacement. By the time the Ronaldo wants to leave stories came out though they had already all but completed the Mane deal.

Haven't they sold off a large part of potential future money that would come in, like tv rights and such?

Haven't they sold off a large part of potential future money that would come in, like tv rights and such? 10% for the next 25 years for £178 million, which still leaves them over £1 billion in debt.

I know some people think the system is a bit of a joke but how the tits is Barcelona going to not get f***ed by the Financial Fair Play regulations? When a club can’t pay players what they’re owed and still have to pay other clubs a large amount from previous transfers, yet are spending over 100 million on new players, how is that not flagrantly against the very definition of the FFP rules? It’s sad to see but a giant club going bankrupt has been a possibility for a while now, hopefully it’s not Barcelona but they’re looking like the most likely candidate at this point.

So Everton did a friendly against Minnesota United. It ended very, very badly.
And speaking of European teams doing friendlies stateside, I'm gonna have to stay away from Green Bay on Saturday because that's when Manchester City and FC Bayern Munich have theirs at Lambeau.

I think Rangers' status amongst the European giants has been diminished by almost three decades of Scottish football being sneered upon as something of a joke, both at club level and international, hence why it was generally regarded with "Oh, that happened? What a pity" by most of football.

Rangers weren’t amongst the elite clubs but they were a team still averaging 45,000 at every home match, had thousands of fans putting money back into the club and only a few years before they fell apart, they made it to a European final. A club that established going to shit should have made the big teams notice and have a closer look at their situation.

But then, Juventus being stripped of titles and relegated for corruption seems to have done little to stem the tide of corruption in Italy, so maybe football in general has a collective "It'll never happen to us" attitude?

The Spanish government will never let Real Madrid or Barcelona go bust.
It's one of the reasons I am deeply skeptical about Real's European Cups tally.
