I teared up because he was truly happy there. To me it wasn't about companies, enemies, fans, it was just about one man's happiness and peace with himself and in those moments you could see that he missed this and he was generally generally happy. I loved it. He didn't miss a step either, it felt like those last few years were knocked off him. I'm buying that new Punk shirt. So I was watching Adam Blampied’s How to Book video on CM Punk’s debut and yeah, I had my own thoughts and what he did first and all that jazz… The moment he came out, his eyes watered and he sat on the stage…f*** that, the man had his moment. I’m happy to wait until Wednesday for all the pro wrestling parts of this.

That was a wonderful pop...I still am a bit perplexed by opening with Punk but it worked...I think the segment did run long though Crowd would have been chanting CM Punk all night and taken away from the matches. That's what I think anyways

More seriously as I rewatch this, just like how perfectly pulled off was this whole thing, especially from a company that's had a 50/50 shaky history with debuts.
They said everything about Punk debuting without saying it at all, building immense hype while also being mysterious about it. When the show starts, he just shows up, there isn't much of a setup from the announcers for it, because this is big enough that it doesn't need one. The first few minutes of his entrance the announcers also shut up too which was great. No "OH MY!!!" followed by JBL reading the wiki. We all witnessed something HUGE tonight.
Also Punk immediately has the best tron in AEW.

With the absolute dumpster fire WWE is right now, I'm just so glad that companies like AEW exist and that moments like this one can still happen.

Can we bump this forum to the top? AEW is just more fun and that pop was glorious I co-sign all of this. I’m also old enough to remember when there was actual DEBATE about whether it warranted it’s own sub forum. Meet the new boss, folks. Time to put it in its proper place at the top of the FAN Forum listing food chain. (plus it would put it in semi-alphabetical order 😂)

When was the last time we saw a genuinely happy CM Punk on TV? It's like night and day.

I’m happy to wait until Wednesday for all the pro wrestling parts of this. It felt like he released all the negative energy he's been holding in all these years and you could see it. Just pure happiness from him. It's rare to see Punk in a situation where he doesn't genuinely seem super bitter towards something but tonight he just felt at one with everything. He was truly happy and it was great.
Like you said, all that wrestling stuff can come later. This is great now.

I was crying watching it. I was on the Punk train back when he debuted in 2006 and he was one of the only people I really followed over the next several years, because I just liked the guy. So to see him come back and look like he actually wants to be there is so wonderful.
It's crazy how AEW has that effect on people. Hardy, Archer, Brodie, FTR, Sting, Christian, Kingston and Sydal all seemed like a breath of fresh air when they came in and they seem reinvigorated being in AEW. Even Mox, PAC and Jericho, who were there at the beginning, seem better of for being in AEW.
This company is special, man.

That's what I think anyways Plus when you're concerned he might run long, you put him first. You know Punk is who people were tuning in to see tonight, so you set up the show to make sure they get what they want. I honestly felt it a bit when Punk talked about leaving ROH in 2005 and how much he didn't want to go, since all of us who followed his run back then can remember just how emotional he got at the end. Seeing his demeanor tonight kind of brought some memories back of that time; seeing him just happy and positive being in and around pro wrestling again is great.

The high point for me was you could tell he was genuinely touched to be there. It kind of felt like a man realizing in the moment that he truly does have a beloved legacy to his name.

Seeing Punk interact with Sting will be big for me as a fan.
My favorite wrestler as a kid and my favorite wrestler as a teen/young adult.

I wish I could share the enthusiasm, I’m happy to see him, but it would have been so much more interesting if he hadn’t mentioned the competition at all. And I also wish they had picked someone else as his first opponent, especially with the accusations in the air. I didn't know what you were talking about, but I've just looked it up. It's frustrating because he's one of my favorites in AEW so it would be a shame to see him throw his career away like this. As for the actual topic of this thread I'm glad that CM Punk has finally come back. I'm looking forward to seeing him face more than a few people in AEW. That was a wonderful pop...I still am a bit perplexed by opening with Punk but it worked...I think the segment did run long though Crowd would have been chanting CM Punk all night and taken away from the matches. That's what I think anyways Exactly, they made the right decision by opening the show with CM Punk.
