Falling Down is smarter than people like to claim. I think it’s crazy obvious D-Fens is the villain, they even say so at the end. It’s got the Fight Club/Joker stigma where some people relate to the protagonists a bit too much, and even then it’s not like those movies are gonna rot everyone’s brains or something. There's a lot of films like this where like the main charecters are kind of evil sociopaths but they are charismatic so some dudes miss the message. I remember Michael Douglas saying in an interview that many guys have come up to him and said they wanted to become a stockbroker after seeing Wall Street. It's a bit like when hip-hop culture looked to Scarface as this example of a cool life and people criticized that take and told those rappers that they interpreted that movie wrong. But then it's like, if you came up from nothing, why wouldn't you revere a guy who has a shit ton of money, gets like superhuman strength from drugs, hangs out with beautiful women, and completely obliterates most of his enemies? They make him seem cool and any hackneyed "rise and fall from grace" narrative fails when the dude is in exile at the story's beginning. If the other prospects for this guy's life is political exile, working in indentured servitude, or being just another guy, being a mobster looks great for the intended audience

Animal House isn’t that funny and inspired a toxic sub-genre of gross frat comedy that trivialized sex and consent to an entire generation of young people.

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty clear message of "We've ALL had days like this, and wanted to lash out but this guy takes it to the extreme" And people always forget that he was an abusive asshole to his wife and daughter.

Right. At the movie goes on, it's clear he's not exactly a great father/husband, culminating where you see the home movie from a previous birthday. Granted, he gives an expression of remorse as he's watching but that doesn't exactly offset what he's done...or is about to do

Elf is crap. So is Anchorman. But I find Will Ferrell annoying unless it is him in small doses.

I had never seen any Star Wars movies, so a couple of years ago I decided to give the original a shot. I had to turn it off after 45 minutes because it sucked.
I tried to watch Gladiator twice, fell asleep twice.
I love Shawshank Redemption but it can be a chore to get through.
Didn't care too much for Joker. Thought Phoenix did a good job but wasn't in Ledger's league.

I agree on Gladiator. Heard from a pile of people how great it was. Never made it past the 30 minute mark.
Forest Gump.... Saw the movie and was like ok this was decent. Then read the book and realized it could have been so much better.

Forrest Gump has bigger problems than that.

Forrest Gump has bigger problems than that. FOr me it's biggest problem is Tom Hanks. He peaked with Bachelor Party. And it's been downhill since then.

But then sometimes it feels like I'm the only person that didn't find Chris Farley funny. To me Chris was a 3rd rate Belushi.

I'm going to disagree, I've found Farley to be second-rate and not third-rate. Seriously, though, Farley had fans but all that I had seen from him was 'dumb fat guy fall down go boom' humour and I find that humour to dry out really fast.

Don't know how unpopular this opinion is, but the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie isn't so bad if you don't treat it as an adaptation of the video games. Hell, you really can't make a movie based on that property and make it like the games. Then again, some people do agree that if you watch the 1994 Street Fighter movie as a comedy, it's perfect.

I mean, it's not a good movie, but it definitely works better if it's just a weird cyberpunk fantasy starring two random guys and a girl from Brooklyn. That being said, it would've been an even bigger bomb if it didn't have the Mario name attached to it.

I also could never stand Chris Farley, and hated when people would compare him to John Candy. John Candy was a legitimate comedian and actor that could do both comedy and drama. Farley was a fat guy that screamed a lot.

Eh, when you say someone was fat and screamed a lot, you have to ask why that guy was successful doing that when a bunch of other people with the same schtick didn't. You can't teach things like timing and body language.
