One of the biggest things I loved about this promo is how Punk handled it. He sat back and let MJF go off. MJF thought his usual antics would get under Punk's skin, but that wasn't the case. Rather, it backfired on him. His jabs never phased Punk one bit, and when Punk responded back, he gave MJF a taste of his own medicine. For those who hate MJF's character, there's this feeling of satisfaction seeing him getting outclassed on the mic. Even as a big-time MJF fan, it's one of those moments in pro wrestling that I can't help but appreciate.
Now, whether MJF steps up to the plate or not remains to be seen. It's an interesting story we've got here. If he steps up to the next level and beats Punk, it's a huge feather in the cap for him. If he loses, it's a wake-up call for him as a learning experience. Win or lose, it's a feud that I feel can help elevate him to the next level.

I did not like the WWE references. What better way to admit the competition is that well known that even AEW want to come sit round WWE's camp fire to get heat?
Otherwise, MJF is a special thing. He'll get better over time. Punk is Punk.

WWE is the elephant in the room and a monopoly that has dominated the industry virtually unchallenged for almost 20 years. It's unrealistic to be in a bubble and pretend they don't exist, especially when you're going into someone's career history who worked there for a very long time period.
TNA really ruined that for a lot of people because they did it in the lamest way possible.

Stating some facts is fine. Name-dropping the Miz is just giving WWE free attention and they ran with it on the Edge/Miz promo without naming anything AEW nor drawing attention to "the other company". There was plenty of meat in the MJF/Punk promo and opportunity to go for plays WWE do not have, which they did, but could have done so without having to mention WWE as much as they did. I'm more bemused rather than annoyed by it.

I mean...it's the top company in the world for pro wrestling. If you're a fan of pro wrestling, you know what WWE is even if you still call it WWF. It's that synonymous. I'm not saying it's justified but it's not giving them any more attention when, like, they're the cream of the crop. It's like getting annoyed when someone parodies Disney and saying they're giving them more attention when, like...it's Disney.

It's also because of MJF's character. He's basically playing every self-congratulatory high school jock bully you've ever seen. And when they talk to people, they always talk down to them in the most condescending way, like you're too thick to understand. That's why MJF doesn't sound sincere - because he isn't. He's mocking. I feel like MJF needs a moment ,even if it is a split of second, where he drops the act and speaks sincere. That can range from full blow sycopath to a scares boy.It is up to then, but he needa that moment to contrast the jock unsincere act. This is of course not saying MJF wouldnt be amazing if that doesnt happen but it would complete the character I completely disagree with this, honestly. I think part of what MJF work so well is the post-kayfabe kayfabe that he is in, where he is just constantly in gimmick even while telling you wrestling is a gimmick. I don't want him to be real ever, except possibly in a retirement speech and probably not even then.

I finally got around to watching this, since it's really all the wrestling world's been talking about, and I'm floored to find out that people think CM Punk outclassed MJF. I thought MJF wiped his boots with CM Punk. It was the 2011 "You're a dynasty, you are what you hate!" promo, but with the roles reversed. MJF is now in the CM Punk role, fighting from underneath and lobbing verbal grenades, while CM Punk is in the John Cena role, playing defense as the living legend fighting off the up-and-comers scrapping for his spotlight.
Punk's quip about MJF as a "less famous Miz" was fine, but the true knockout blow was MJF catching Punk in the chin with the line about "Hustle, loyalty, and respect."

MJF’s promo actually fell rather flat for me this time. It was just a bunch of eye rolling references.
Also Punk’s reactions did not line up with how they played it last week either.

I hated the Britt references.
I especially hated that Britt was in the next segment and didn't acknowledge it at all.
I hope one day that is paid off by MJF getting dick kicked by Britt or something.

That I agree with: she could have said something along the lines of “everyone talking about her as usual..” but having her own business to attend to.

I'm not sure why there has to be a definite winner in these things, and I blame the worked shoot nonsense. It's two guys pretending to have an argument, lol. But if we're talking kayfabe, Punk obviously won the altercation because he got the crowd on his side and sent MJF running with his tail between his legs.

The whole PG Punk thing seems just as forced as Cena's CM Sucks.

The whole “getting into Britt’s pants” and “I’ll kill your dog” felt rather too tryhard, even for MJF.
