TWO pies in the face? I’ve long said their scripts are copy and pastry. So wait. I started a thread that managed five pages of actual discussion on something happening in WWE, it's near the top of page one in Current AND Perd graced it with one of his posts? Truly, I have reached FAN nirvana.

How WWE has both Toni Storm and Rhea Ripley, who are young talented women who you would THINK would be Vince and co’s dream girls, and neither of them feel like top stars right now, is beyond me? Rhea got the rocket strapped to her upon her callup, beating Asuka at Wrestlemania. The problem is that in that time, Rhea's alignment was all over the place, and her matches for quite some time absolutely sucked. Not to mention her promos were abysmal. It's little wonder WWE has massively cooled off on her. As for Toni, it's probably Kevin Dunn behind this one, because its pretty well known that he thinks anyone with a foreign accent can't get over. Doesn't help that she wasn't even particularly standing out in NXT either. Where her last real significant match of note was tapping out to a non-finisher on it.

Rhea was only put in the Mania match because their first two options were not available. And they immediately brought Charlotte back after that and had her decisively defeat Rhea for a second year in a row. It was a colossal blunder and it was entirely WWE’s own making.

Also, this has to be said again, there’s, like, zero excuse of having someone cut promos knowing they aren’t great when you have had her in your developmental system for as long as you did and can judge her ability from the classes and such you may have.
Like, I’m sorry, they paid millions for that facility. They should know that stuff off by heart. “But she can’t cut the 20 minute long promo”, just don’t have her do them, you dumbos!

Also even talent who could cut at least decent promos in NXT have struggled on the MR. the promos they’re given on Raw and SD often seem so dumb unnatural and awkward. No human beings talk like that.

I suspect the sheer number of releases this year, including people they actually had plans for is ramping this conversation up. There's a genuine concern that if someone looks bad they wont have the year or two to recover flat others have had. As such emotions run high when they see someone they like in a garbage skit that makes them look like crap. It sucks to see that, but it sucks even worse now in the age of constant releases.

It feels like wrestlers are only getting one or two chances before they're given up on. Toni Storm is salvageable after this but will she be salvaged? That's the big question.

Yeah, Rhea vs. Asuka was like Plan C. Which is insane because Plans A and B presumably didn't even include Asuka... the person who was champion for a year... But as I said at Mania... Rhea should have lost there, she literally just arrived on Raw with the last like 3 weeks before Mania... there was more for her as a character and story for her to lose and regroup... than her to win the top title right away especially against someone that even when treated as an afterthought they at least pretend is a threat like Asuka. Having her beat Asuka immediately... like ends the story right away... and the Women's title is the top title of hte division it's not like they can build towards more after she wins it...

Well Lacey and Charlotte was plan A. I'm guessing Charlotte against Asuka was Plan B however then after Charlotte was a no go then they had to bring Rhea up since they had no one else who they could put in that spot. I thought it was too soon for Rhea to win the belt but at the same time I thought her going over was the right call. The division was in much need of a jolt as pretty the entire previous year was centered around combinations of Asuka, Charlotte, Bayley, and Sasha figthing each other over and over and it was getting very tiring. Going with a new face with a lot of upside albeit with a rushed build up I think was the lesser of two evils just because they desperately needed new stars. I know everyone loves Asuka and I like her too but she had the belt long enough at that point and it was starting to get stale. Also they didn't really put much into her reign as the only reason she got the belt was because someone got pregnant (Becky), the first person they intended to likely beat her was dealing with injuries and illness (Charlotte), and then the second person they were planning to have beat her for the belt also got pregnant (Lacey). It's when they fed Rhea to Charlotte again for no reason is where they went wrong.

Rhea sucks and didn't deserve to beat Asuka.

You know what, maybe I jumped to conclusions last week. After all, Toni is in Charlotte's head!!! Also, the top women's feud on Smackdown involves pies...

The problem here is, this is still nowhere near the floor for this kind of thing. Hell, we’ve had a world title feud that was centered around the champion dressing up as his challenger and f***ing a mannequin that was ostensibly meant to be a corpse. Pies in the face is nothing.

True. But the fact that I lived through that, and know that Kane's career didn't suffer a bit, but still fear for Toni, should say a lot. And I think it's because they have far more reason to cut people on a whim now, than they did back in 2002. So if Toni doesn't get over from this feud, which, with how they're booking her, is a real possibility, that could be enough reason to cut their losses.

WWE in 2021 is a VERY different place.
I have zero confidence Toni will be helped by this.

That is a fascinating perspective of just how little margin for error and how little tolerance there is for bad booking (in the sense of how much one is willing to let slide) there is nowadays in the eyes of the average WWE fan and how that's changed over the last 19 years. It's how we end up in a situation where the demand is people literally go undefeated and never look the slightest bit weak, lest they be seen as expendable.
