See below. If he’s happy, that’s all that matters.
Per Fightful:
WWE has landed at least one of their three big free-agent names, as Kevin Owens has re-signed with the company.
Fightful learned several weeks ago that WWE was very interested in retaining Kevin Owens, and made him what sources in the company was "an excellent offer" to stay. WWE sources that we spoke to said they were over the moon about retaining Owens.
Talent within AEW we spoke to didn't think AEW would realistically match what WWE would offer him to stay with the company. Unanimously, AEW talent we spoke to believe there would have been interest, though company officials obviously can't comment on such without tampering issues.
Owens' deal was originally up much later, but in 2019, he restructured it to expire at the end of January 2022. WWE started the negotiation process with Owens in the fall of 2021, which is a far cry from how they used to do things.
The deal is a multi-year agreement. Fightful will work to learn more information.

Not surprised, he mightve been offered a 7 figure deal and he accepted.

Hopefully he got a no-cut clause.

Well didn't see that coming but get your money KO.
He must have both gotten exactly what he wanted and WWE had to pay quite the premium if AEW would not realistically match it.
Would not be surprised now if KO wins the title at Day 1 out of this.

Huh, that's surprising. I've found Owens (and Zayn) boring as hell for years but good for him, hope he's getting paid well.

Well, he’s made his choice. Whatever happens next, good or bad, is his to live with.

Good for him. Still doesn't save him from being randomly let go because he's too old, cost too much, etc. Good for him and his family for getting paid though.

Honestly, as much as I'd love to see Steen elsewhere...WWE needs to keep people. It's not a great look for executives if these TV ready people are just going left, right and centre and I can imagine someone got in their ear and wondered why they were so quick to let Cole, Danielson, O'Reilly, Gargano etc just up and leave when they could be on TV doing something. You need to look like you're a place people want to go to, even with WWE's change in tactics on developmental. They especially need to keep people with the experience of Kevin Owens.

Would have loved him to win the Owen Cup in AEW. If Zayn stays it keeps my dream of them winning the tag titles one day.

I was hoping he'd go to AEW since he's been stale in WWE for a while, but I guess Owens may be planning on settling into a trainer job eventually.

WWE was gonna have to pony up to keep some folks so yeah, I imagine dude got a bag and a half.
A competitive market benefits all, even those seeking basic upward mobility in their current spot.

Glad Owens is staying. He would have been lost in the shuffle in AEW imo.

I've seen KO work with AEW's talent before in the independents, so I'm not too bummed about it. Wish WWE would book this guy better, regardless.

Let's find out what you've won.
Kevin, you've won spending the next 2 years jobbing to pretty much everyone but wait you've also won a cameo at the ATG Battle Royale!

Also that. This is why competition is a good thing since, never mind AEW, a guy like Kevin Steen would make bucketloads from being in various places.

Well, he’s made his choice. Whatever happens next, good or bad, is his to live with. I actually disagree with this. For the big reason, that WWE has shown time and time again they’ll drop you no matter if you just signed a multi year deal. Turnabout is fair play. If he starts kicking his feet demanding a release tomorrow, I ain’t gonna be crying for WWE. You reap what you sow, these companies ain’t shit, lol.

if there's anything we've learned since Nick Khan arrived the length of the contract means nothing, and he could be fired tomorrow
that said, if he's happy good for him
