Doing a bit of Dr. Google here, so this won’t be 100% accurate… Looking up recovery times for fractured vertebrae that don’t require surgery, he’s probably looking at three months minimum before he’s able to get the bracing off, and then probably a bit longer after that while he eases himself back into it and gets his neck back into as good a shape as it can get. Being back in action before the end of 2022 may be a realistic possibility, although if I were booking, I’d hold him off until Rumble season. Which, even for how long that sounds...that's the best-case scenario here. Which considering what actually happened to him, that's insane.

Sounds crazy to say but it’s the best case scenario if you break it. Glad he’s in good spirits. Even the fact that SmackDown was in Birmingham, AL. That’s where their main emergency doctor is based (Dr. James Andrews). He’s not a spinal nor neuro expert. Don’t doubt he was there but his role would be secondary (geared toward the recovery end if no surgery). But it was actually fortunate that it was in Birmingham because UAB hospital is really top-notch and they have as good a group of neuro specialists as you’re likely to find.

And this is what worries me. The second chance after second chance Nia got. Ahmed was like this to a degree too, though they shunted him down the card by the time he got to be a problem. But....Holland isn't related to the Rock, so who knows? On the other hand, D'Lo did stop using the running powerbomb. Think Rollins stopped using the buckle bomb too, to be fair. It's a safe bet to say we won't ever be seeing the overhead belly to belly again. Uh oh, here goes 1/3rd of Brock's offense.

No way in hell do I feel up to rewatching the clip right now to try and Zapruder it, but I agree with this. We don’t know where things went wrong. For all we know this is 100% shit happens, maybe Big E thought it was “1,2,3 Go!” and Holland thought it was “1,2,3”. Maybe Holland tried to power him over and failed, maybe Big E’s knee tried to buckle when he jumped and he accidentally sandbagged him. There’s a million variables at play and any one of them could’ve caused this incident. Until Big E or Holland specifically come out and say “this is where shit went sideways” I’m not casting judgement All it takes is half a second of miscommunication (like E jumping too early or Ridge lifting too early) or rotating too late, and shit can go so wrong. This is what I believe happened with Sabu and Chris Benoit (remember when accidentally dropping Sabu on his head was the worst thing he did?)

It’s so f***ing awkward Sabu was supposed to take a bump facing down onto his stomach but at the last second decided to try and rotate into a back bump. He talked about it in his first shoot interview and basically put most of the blame on himself.

First of all, thankfully Big E is ok. Secondly, what great news that it is non-displaced and doesn't require surgery. His twitter update this morning did make me chuckle a bit when he said if you are going to break your neck, do it in Birmingham.

Blimey, that's damn near miraculous if he's avoiding surgery and its only that. Saying only that in context of course.
Back to the move, I saw it live and have no intention of ever rewatching it, injuries make me very queasy, but the actual move - a quick release suplex at an angle on the floor - had absolutely no wiggle room for anything going wrong. It was the sort of spot you'd worry about Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley doing, you know, two trusted veterans who are pretty much as safe as houses. There's is absolutely NO WAY someone with 5 years of actual match experience (which includes 2 big injury layoffs) should be booked to do it.
It'd be like getting Omos to hit the Burning Hammer on someone...

For all the silliness of The New Day and how they all fully invested in it to the nth degree, they all seem like genuinely good guys, and Big E in particular seems to me like the kind of person who'd be perfect in an Ambassador role once his in ring days are up.
Glad he wasn't injured worse than what happened because that looked nasty.

That said Big E being a big return at the Rumble would be a pretty good idea.

Just that he won't have any kind of paralysis, much less need any surgery, is nothing short of miraculous. With how scary that botch looked, this is about as much a best case scenario as he could hope for given the circumstances.
We're talking about him returning to the ring as a "when" and not an "if," and thank God for that.

Local news doesn't post about wrestling often, especially for injuries, but Big E got his own headline for it

Lesnar will probably keep doing that move because he's done it safely for decades from big guys such as Luke Harper (RIP) to even smaller guys. It's about technique. Like, if you look at the way Lesnar does it, it's done with more "throw" and it's more "loose." Just look all throughout this video. That's just the way all of his suplexes are. Always throw-y, always loose. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFy_1WkWkWcThe way Ridge did it isn't that way. He's going to have to learn the Lesnar way if they want him to continue doing that move.

I'm curious if that's why the German suplex has so thoroughly overtaken the vertical suplex as the "standard" suplex, to the point where my wife thought the German was the default. It's a much looser move by default and seems more adjustable.

Whew. That is definitely a relief, especially considering what could've happened.

But hitting vertical suplexes are more fun if you get it right.

Watching the Lesnar compilation, there's at least one Overhead Belly to Belly to Ambrose outside the ring that almost mirrored Ridge's. Lesnar suplexes Dean at too low of an angle, there's barely any flight curve. It's just a dangerous move in general.

It’s why I was told you need to jump when they pull or else you’re just hoping it lands right. I feel like sometimes I was lucky to be a part of the schools I was because other places seem to have a “Do it right or else, kid” mentality haha.
