Eh, I get the critique on things like how they're presenting Danhausen but at the same time don't particularly think it's that important. Danhausen is a guy who can't really compete in the ring yet given the injury he's recovering from. For now, he's a guy with a cult following who shows up as a sort of weird, living non sequitur. He can't be that forever, but with the way AEW tends to structure its shows and rotate who gets showcased, the time will come when he'll be ready to go and people will get more of what he's about (have to think what's going on with Hook is part of the set up to this). If people's reactions for now are "the hell is with this guy?" that's only a problem, in my book at least, if we're still saying that by fall or something.
On the larger issue, yeah, I think there's a lot of thin-skinned AEW fans, but I also think social media amplifies both the most toxic fans and trolls of every fanbase as well as the thinnest skinned defenders of every show/team/product.
My personal frustration is when I think people are rating AEW, or any other wrestling for that matter, based on how WWE operates and the kinds of tropes it's made a lot of people come to expect from televised arena wrestling in the US. Besides that, I'm sure this isn't really the case but where I think some of the defensiveness comes from is the perception that AEW (or, again, basically any other pro wrestling show) pretty much needs to be perfect in the eyes of many fans, while WWE just needs to put on a decent show or two to get a lot of "Look everyone, it's good again!" reviews or what have you. Like, a good night of Wrestlemania that had a few good/very good matches had some folks ready to say WWE was saved, while I feel like a lot of other promotions don't get that kind of leeway...no shade whatsoever at people who genuinely enjoyed said night of Wrestlemania, mind you, some of that did look fun.
Again, I don't think that's really what's going on, but again the way social media works is to amplify the kinds of voices that would frame things that way.

Bryan is 100% correct. I've said to my friends that AEW hasn't giving me any reason to care about Danhausen. He is presented like I already know everything about him, some back story or something would be nice, I've lost interest in finding out what he is about because I know AEW is not going to give me any info about him. Thin skin fans don't bother me too much, But it's the hypercritical posters here that rub me the wrong way. The ones who complain about any criticism brought to the board or any thread but then go to a Raw or Smackdown show thread and crap on the product the entire show. Knowing if someone did that in a Dynamite or Rampage thread they would be wanting them thrown off the board. If you want to crap on the WWE that doesn't bother me, there's alot to crap on honestly, lol. But don't whine about it if someone does the exact same to something you Like. Here's how I see it, depending on the thread, and depending on how something's being shit on, I counterpoint logically why it happened if I see it, which, is usually very present in AEW's presentation, though not completely, sometimes shit just ain't great, it is what it is. Doesn't mean the users wrong for hating it. WWE's a bit of a different beast, because it's been the same pattern for decades at this point, which is why, imo, it's easier to crap on the product. A lot of it has to do with track record. When I see WWE do something like break up Rhea and Liv for example, I know where it's going, and sure enough Rhea's cutting the "I DON'T OWE YOU PEOPLE AN EXPLANATION' trope like five minutes later... this is not to say WWE's completely unwatchable, in fact, some of their segments on RAW last night hit well, they had some fun stuff, with AEW, I'm actually more inclined to say "That sucked, but I think they can turn it around pretty quickly", and a lot of the times, they do, where WWE's had a major problem in their history... they don't pivot, they run straight into the wall, and it just makes it I suppose, easier to shit on, harder to defend, harder to see the logic, or said silver linings. So I don't think it's as simple as "You shit on WWE but defend AEW and that seems very hypocritical", I've even agreed I think Danhausen getting more explanation would be good for casuals, it hasn't hurt my perception of him but I love Danhausen, but others also need to understand him to love him as well, do I think it's hurting him right now? Not particularly, but I wouldn't MIND it. I really do recommend his Youtube, or his ROH interviews, just because they're great and funny media in general, his "HEY EW" interview on their own Youtube channel is also very entertaining, and I hope the HOOK feud continues to bring out Danhausen's best like I believe it's already started to do, reacting to a straight man is perfect for him to do, should only continue to be entertaining. I think a lot of people just have to keep in mind when we're talking about WWE to AEW in terms of reacting to the product, one is going on three years old, the other has been alive for decades upon decades, with piles and piles or crap on top of crap both product wise and irl wise, and has done so much bad faith shit, that it just makes it so much easier, to again, be negative towards it. AEW's done some dumb stuff, but WWE's just an entirely different albatross at this stage of the game in terms of how it's judged, next to almost any other wrestling company at this point.

While I do think they've done a poor job implementing Danhausen thus far, and I probably wouldn't have even bothered bringing him in until he could actually do something, it strikes me as a gimmick without a long shelf life anyway. It's kind of like, you do the teeth thing, you hear the theme, you mix up AEW and A&W, okay, you've pretty much exhausted the jokes stemming from it and are left with a character without a lot of room for forward momentum. It's a funny bit in the short term but even just in having watched the occasional Youtube video of him here and there I'm already kind of tired of it.

Danhausen's been doing this gimmick for years now, don't think it has a short shelf life when he can always move on to the next thing and be entertaining with it. He made that Ass Boys thing on a whim and look how much it exploded. His tag team with PCO was very popular, he's no one trick pony, and I'm sure he won't be in AEW when he's firing on all cylinders either.

I have tought about this part a lot.I have said if WWE was a new company, they have so much lows they wouldnt last a year. But this is a big thing that sadly comes with a 20+years presence vs something new trying to break the status quo and the norms. But one of the reason some fans get so defensive, you have some minor shit getting Overblow Kenny vs Alan Angels , The Dark Order's Punches for example(I swear they got more grief than the one gigantic blunder of AEW which was Matt Hardy getting injured in a very unsafe and stupid spot) The Suzuki Incident was a very lesser but vocal number of people, but its still a micro-example.

I'm still wondering where the "can't criticise AEW" notion comes from. Like, the board attitude towards Baker beating Rosa at the ppv was not exactly a chorus of "let's see where they're going with this before we judge it".
Even putting aside forum bete noirs like (formerly) Cody and Dan Lambert, there was for instance quite a lot of criticism here of MJF before his amazing match with Darby and feud with Punk seemed to positively shift opinion on him.
I've certainly never felt any pressure to not criticise AEW, and I've done it quite a bit in the last year of watching it. Sometimes people agree, sometimes they don't. C'est la vie.

I know there's outliers and some people who will get very pushy, but given the amount of back and forth that does happen naturally on this board in threads, a lot of the people who are like "You can never say anything bad about AEW without everyone jumping down your throat" are more likely than not to then have their criticism be like "The day of reckoning fast approaches for the mortal you call Tony Khan. [thunderclap sound effect on a Dramatic Noises Soundboard they bought on their phone] Are you marks prepared for the coming storm and for the destruction of your precious indie fed?" But then if you complain about the women's division you'll probably only get pushback if you get Weird About Women's Wrestling or actually say something racist. That one racist guy didn't get a very warm reception but the women's division is almost universally agreed upon to be in bad shape in here. Like we've absolutely had people create fresh accounts to show up in live threads to post bile and cause shit. That has 100% occurred before and it's something I have seen happen once in WWE live threads in the decade I have been on this board.

Honestly there are 100% times I've said things about AEW I thought were perfectly valid criticisms and have felt like I've been completely bombarded by people for daring to express it, though feel like by this point most of those particular assholes have been banned.

I think we can all agree that if any one person should become a monolithic representation of this board, it's just bob posting the confused Titus O'Neil gif. That's the real united front of the AEW section and maybe the Dynamite live thread this week should be only the confused Titus gif. Pages and pages of confused Titus.

God I miss that gimmick account when Rusev first debuted that was both his number one fan and also found weird ways to associate him with Sonic the Hedgehog until it got kicked. Those were simpler times...

This is gonna be a bit of a personal diatribe so I hope if anyone reads it they can bear with me... I feel like I've been too defensive at points in defending a point because I personally just thought there was logic to defend it, or there was severe hyperbole being used in just how bad it was. In fairness, some of those instances that was in fact happening, but I feel like in doing so, I have made some people here legitimately upset on this Proboard, by simply trying to discuss something I am passionate about, and, ironically, trying to understand why there is such a negative connotation to the point or the argument. I feel like in some cases, this stigma has been unreasonable, but in other cases, if I've actually caused people legitimate distress by simply replying to them in a spirited way, it legitimately makes me feel guilty and upset, because I don't want to be pigeon hole'd into some "Only defends AEW" hole, because I don't think that's fair as I have been critical of plenty of AEW stuff, just like how when someone's negative on an angle, people have said "Are you ever happy about anything? All you do is shit on the product" in the past when they have been plenty positive and been cherry picked for a narrative, that shit isn't fair either and it's honestly pissed me off when I've seen it, because you swing so far in the other direction you ALSO end up being a problem yourself, doing the very thing you think you're preventing. I've seen some users publicly speak about the AEW Board even in other sections and how they've had to break from it because of the very stigma that negative opinion is either dogpiled or it's exhausting to see the fighting or negative ranting threads that pop up consistently. I, personally, don't want to be the reason some people either fall out of love with a product, or either don't want to post here or connect me to such a negative connotation, that they think me an asshole for how I respond to AEW negativity. It should never, ever get that far, that a message board or takes on it, are directly effecting your enjoyment of a product. I feel the same for fandom toxicity effecting how some people watch a product, people quitting watching something they love because of stuff like this is depressing, we should invite more people in, not make them want to leave and have a bad taste in their mouth. I've done a lot of self reflections on this, and I really do apologize to those I may have frustrated over the months if I've simply gone too far with arguments or defenses for what that may be worth. I've been looking to dial it back myself, really the AEW Board itself has just needed to dial it down several notches and I think we're all well aware of it, but to the point, there absolutely have been people who have simply tried and fan the flames in either direction, and bait for response here, far more than anything I have literally EVER seen in the WWE Thread, and I've been here almost a decade, it's quite alarming, and surprising, and I'd literally shudder to think how this place and the modern internet would have looked with WCW and ECW in their prime existing if they are this absolutely vile with AEW alone... but in the end, FAN's still one of the best places to discuss it, it's why I love being here, and doing it, and I hope that when it comes to AEW criticisms, people aren't afraid to post about them, and aren't afraid to express them. We have had lengthy "Unpopular AEW Opinion" threads come and go on this board, with no issue, and a ton of negative takes here, to again, really no issue... it's the people who This Player Hating Mothman said, try to conflate these feelings and takes, that I think has really been a problem here, miniscule in comparison to how bad it is on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc, that thankfully has been solved in a lot of areas, but in others, can still look for improvement on, and I hope, on my end, I can do so, and help make the Boards more positive to be in as well.

I will leave this here as my experience over the last 6 months good bad and indifferent and hopefully we both can come out of this with a better understanding of each other and the people around us and bury our swords as well...This isn't our board by any means whatsoever but we take pride in it as a whole and have stirred up some shit over the last few months in doing so. Your passion is absolutely remarkable man. You seem to know more about the product than I ever will and at the beginning, this was my problem. Last October I started to notice how prolific you were about responding to people and I started to feel overwhelmed as I felt I couldn't make a statement or even a direct comment to someone without your input or opinion regardless of where I posted on the forum at certain intervals. I have a few medical issues, some self-inflicted over the years (and I have actually detailed them here through the years), and this place has always been a place of refuge for me. When this sense of suffocation started taking place I reached out to you and introduced myself and expressed my concern. This continued however as it was apparent our ideologies don't sync and as I continued to privately request for you to just please stop responding to me I became bitter and stupid. I watched as you ended everything in the WWE section on a negative note and "LMFAO" but no one was immediately responding to you about that...If you were called out it was squashed with "going in circles"...These things felt hypocritical to the all-inclusive nature that this board has had for nearly 20 years...This has really always been the board that laughs together.... I was ignorant...I started posting whatever I could find that was the trigger on twitter and willingly brought it here. I love wrestling and am so damn happy AEW exists and that there are people like you that fight for it and want that change but I guess I felt like I somehow lost my own personal voice too and it made me hate the product and whatever idea of you I concocted. These are all deep character flaws within myself so dont feel responsible for this as I am a grown ass adult as well and stirring shit just to break up some self perceived cool kids club is absolutely pathetic on my part but I have expressed with you over the last 6 months all of this via pm as I watched myself willingly become the villain as well and you extended the branch so... This fight and ill will for me died on my assisted week off from here like another intervention I have had in my life so man I want to extend my hand and reiterate something when I say that your passion is intense and remarkable...You belong here...This section wouldn't be the same with you here...I think we could both use a nap

This fight and ill will for me died on my assisted week off from here like another intervention I have had in my life so man I want to extend my hand and reiterate something when I say that your passion is intense and remarkable...You belong here...This section wouldn't be the same with you here...I think we could both use a nap This means a lot for me to read, frankly. For a long time, I felt like I had truly wronged you, and couldn't do anything about it, or to change it. I felt like my responses had gone too far and I had smothered you into thinking I was a terrible person, when I was really just trying to either help with certain storylines you may not have been privy to, or give input wherever I thought it mattered. I can see how that could feel hypocritical, it's just as I said above, different companies existing for very different lengths of time and having different legacies definitely can yield different responses from myself and from others, in either direction, but I did not mean for it to come across as such, or irritate anyone in doing so, a lot of WWE threads are much more "riff-able" if that makes sense, much more experience there in how they go, including many classic, meme'd threads that have frankly gone down in history on this board... god bless the RAW Whose Line thread. This board has helped me get through my own issues. My father passed the day of WrestleMania 33, I posted here during it, and it helped, a lot. The board was here when I got diagnosed with, and beat cancer, and just recently when my aunt passed away last year. Wrestling is my escape too bud, and this Board is a very relaxing place to have it, normally. That's why I like conversing with people like yourself. You and others here really get wrestling, and are very respectful about it, and it's why I always kept coming back here, and barely talk about it other places outside of the occasional Twitter post and the like. I really do apologize for any times I overstepped, in some ways, I don't think I understood what I was doing to you in simply replying with in general statements, as I do it with everyone here, and didn't realize it could be overwhelming for you or what you were doing through as a whole. I hope you're well, and I am glad that this week has apparently helped you out a great deal, I don't want to see anything bad happen to you, or anyone here. Disagreements, personal little tit for tats are one thing, we're people at the end of the day, people with a love for as my one friend so aptly put it "Redneck Anime" lmfao, and that's what it's about in the end, through it all. I hope we can just co-exist peacefully on the board moving forward, if I respond to you, I will do best to do it in moderation or not overwhelm you, or if you want me to continue to not do so, will respectfully try to honor that wish, but I've been scaling back regardless, I think, I hope? Lol. I don't want my passion as it were, to continue to be misconstrued into a negative, I honestly don't want problems with anyone on the board, it's not what I came here and set out to do, obviously lol. While you told me not to feel responsible, I am still sorry regardless, and hopefully moving forward, we can do that thing where we can laugh together, as FAN is meant to do!

Weirdly, I've always felt like it was the other way around. WWE, because of all their historical baggage, have to be the ones putting on perfect shows week after week just to convince people that they're not about to fall back into bad habits. While other promotions like AEW don't, because people are more willing to tolerate their slip ups and stay the course.

While other promotions like AEW don't, because people are more willing to tolerate their slip ups and stay the course. It's because, from personal experience, a lot of the times WWE can't keep momentum week to week, due to scripting issues and constant show re-writes, things constantly change or even worse they stay the exact same and it feels like three to five hours of time is just wasted on nothing happening. They have good shows, but the last time I felt they were truly consistent, was Litdown, when it felt like they were putting on banger shows for weeks. There have been better standalone WWE episodes since, but the momentum for them is so hard to keep, in fact a lot of the times after a great show, they just bottom out the next week, like... they used all their power and need a creative break suddenly, it's extremely oddd, and frustrating, for plenty of weekly viewers, not all but plenty of em, who proceed to take extended weeks off because they've been burned by this process With AEW, they can have lackluster shows or "meh" shows, though for the most part, a lot of the times, your time isn't being wasted, stuff is happening, stuff is being advanced, and you don't feel like you are wasting your time getting invested in many of the wrestlers because they are constantly being put in some sort of positive direction or storyline. A lot of times people just go "I was not feeling this week" whether the pacing felt weird, some of their favorites weren't featured, or booking didn't click... BUT, in AEW's case, they've put on such a consistently solid, or good product since being born, a lot of fans DO give them the benefit of the doubt and have thus far been rewarded. Did Dynamite underdeliver? Well Rampage was great! Did Rampage piss people off for some reason? Dynamite rebounds. Or both shows were good and it's a great week of wrestling. RAW and Smackdown have three more hours of time to develop stories and pacing and it feels like we are constantly pointing and laughing at the "Entrance then other thing then other thing then another entrance then another thing" trope they love to do... or long matches ending in flat DQ's of nothingness, it's an issue they've dealt with and don't seem keen on steering away from, where a lot of AEW issues that get brought up, they do try to mediate or correct, which I think is the most major difference of them all... Vince won't listen, he refuses to listen, and Khan at least in some capacity, is very much listening, and when something goes wrong he talks about it, and MOST of the time, makes good on it. If WWE did that more? I think it'd be a much more even kilter experience but... well we know they don't lol. Baggage truly is the main reason, WWE's done a lot of shit, so much so a lot of people have simply stopped watching, completely, and never looked back. AEW's very new, they make missteps, but they have more trust for what they correct and do, and present, and the benefit of well, not having decades worth of baggage, that can always change over time with more time, but yeah, it's definitely a deciding factor in how each company is judged, as I said above, WWE's judged much more so than any other company you'd compare against it, not even just AEW.

I think the issue comes from the what happens next part (see Seth winning the title from Brock or Big E winning the belt). I also think WWE fell under the trope (especially with Cena and Reigns) where the matches just ended so suddenly the endings were deflating... I'll always point to Braun dominating the Elimination Chamber and Roman just wins with a spear out of nowhere. Not saying Roman would have been accepted by fans but thr sudden ending just killed the crowd.

I think this comes down to a person to person thing. I think some posters have a perception around them that they are always negative so any criticism is met harsher. I love AEW but I usually have some criticism of the shows (usually pacing) I also think there are quite a few criticisms people have that are valid and worth discussing.
