My god that was atrocious. I know it has been a long time, but I will always remember Pitbull appearing, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel wishing Rock a happy birthday (and phoning it in), and also a bit with Vickie Guerrero and Mae Young. That was a weird episode of Raw. Oh, and at the top of the show, Rock saying "we got him" in the wake of Bin Laden's death. Nothing will ever beat Cena's announcement of Bin Laden's death at a WWE house show.

I’d love it to be a physical media release just for the audacity of it all. I could see the intro now. “I’m Vince McMahon and I’d like to invite the WWE Universe to go f*** themselves.”

That episode also has the Flanders family reunion bit. That was one of the best parts, especially the British Flanders. It's José Flanders who always makes me laugh.

Tommy in the 25th anniversary episode of Power Rangers. 9 other returning rangers but they keep making it about how awesome Tommy in particular is. Tommy pretty much spoiled Power Rangers for me once he became the White Ranger.

I remembered the episode of "Yes, Dear" when Chuck Norris appeared, it felt like a satire of sorts when Jimmy's (Mike O'Malley) friends tried to kiss Chuck's ass, but then Jimmy stood up for Chuck saying that it's stupid how they're trying to make an impression on him. However, as the episode went along, it was different because Chuck Norris showed that he could be funny when trying to learn how to be a father, when Jimmy was tired of Chuck annoying him with phone messages and stuff. Of course, the end of the episode did show Chuck Norris kicking ass, which was a fun scene.
I don't think the show tried to kiss the guest star's butt. If anything, the writing for that episode was genius.

The only one I can remotely think of is a movie sequel and not a TV show...
"Return of the Seven", the sequel to "The Magnificent Seven", was chock full of buttkissing for its star Yul Brynner. He was reportedly unhappy with the amount of screen time and exposure that Steve McQueen got in the first one. He also has a lot of control of the script for the sequel. So, every main character has to stop during the movie and explain how Yul saved their lives or their souls and how absolutely awesome Yul's character is and how they'd fight to the ends of the world on his say so... it got funny how these hardened cowboys would stop and look doe-eyed and say "if it wasn't for YOU".

I vaguely remember some episode of Family Matters (or some TGIF show) where they had some D-list celebrity play themselves while everyone on the show treated them like Tom Cruise. Even at the time, I was like “every single member of this cast is a bigger star than this.” Tracie Spencer?

Of course it's Kendall Gill on My Brother and Me. As a little kid (and still now) this episode made me think he was one of the best players of all time

Of course it's Kendall Gill on My Brother and Me. As a little kid (and still now) this episode made me think he was one of the best players of all time At least he was a solid player. He was in the NBA for 15 years, you ain't sticking around for that long if you suck. As for the question, Elon on The Simpsons was worse than Gaga. At least Gaga's episode had a funny joke relating to Gaga, and that was Gaga in the hoodie not wanting to draw attention to herself while the hoodie has her name on the back, and keeps saying "Gaga." Elon had no funny jokes related to Elon.

Lisa the Vegitarian. To this day I will never forgive the McCarthys for their asinine, and downright hypocritical demand to keep Lisa a vegetarian from then on. (You're doing that while literally spreading a message about not forcing your beliefs on others? Screw you!) It more shows the respect they have for Paul McCartney. They’ve retconnned everything else on the show, including dead characters, but Lisa remains a vegetarian.

Drew Carey at the 2001 RR had a load of segments and even a mini storyline at a big 5 PPV and really looked like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world. Weirder as DC was promoting a comedy PPV, so a big chunk of change probably got dumped into Vince's lap for the exposure hence the arse kissing, but Carey himself put so little effort in to promoting it. Somehow got a HoF night out from it too years later, maybe he was a riot backstage and left a great impression just hid it well when he was onscreen.

Lisa becoming a vegetarian was foretold in the first "Simpsons look into the future" episode anyway. Think that was a season or two before the episode with Paul McCartney.

An oldie: John Wayne guest stars on an episode of Maude. The build of the show is that the titular character, a staunch feminist, is going to give the movie star a piece of her mind because of his conservative views but when she finally meets him she's overcome by his machismo and demures.

I am honestly surprised Bea Arthur went along with that. Like, I get she obviously had a sense of humor about herself, and I can see where the joke works, but that had to be a very interesting filming.

Even at the time, I was like “every single member of this cast is a bigger star than this.” Tracie Spencer? You could also talk about Shanice Wilson, but at least in her case, she had that hit song "I Love Your Smile" and she was famous enough, at least at that time. Hell, that show also had Johnny Gill appear.
