This can age so poorly. The golden example to me was when Lady Gaga was on the Simpsons. Her popularity fell not too longer after, but it never fell too much and she of course is still very famous. So it wouldn’t be that weird, but really the whole episode is just about how awesome she is.
What made me think of this was watching the Family Guy episode where Rob Gronkowski guest stars. Non-Patriots fans, which really would be most viewers I could see either hating it or apathetic. He’s portrayed as a partying jerkass, but also a pretty cool dude/complete badass.
Lastly, just that episode of The Simpsons with Mel Gibson. Especially when he first started to really fall off the rails of sanity. In the episode the problem was literally that he was TOO LIKABLE.

That Mel Gibson episode of the Simpsons aged like cheese left out in the sun for a few weeks.

Do episodes that count as backdoor pilot attempts count on this list?

I think the Elon Musk example fits even better than the Lady Gaga one. Musk has become a pretty divisive, and to some very disliked, figure for reasons we can’t really get into here.

From what fans of the show have told me, the episode of iCarly focusing on Fred is not only obnoxious, it completely dates the series to the very narrow window in which Fred was popular enough to warrant a sitcom appearance where's portrayed as nearly universally beloved.

Sure, particularly because I’m curious what you’re referencing Re-read the OP...so my thought wasn't really what I had in mind (was thinking how something like Assignment: Earth from Star Trek pretty much push aside the main cast's abilities).

The Rock’s birthday episode of RAW, 2011. Pretty much every episode of the guest host era, honestly. The Bella Twins being pimped out on-screen to every guest host has aged like a rotting corpse in the desert sun.

Lisa the Vegitarian. To this day I will never forgive the McCarthys for their asinine, and downright hypocritical demand to keep Lisa a vegetarian from then on. (You're doing that while literally spreading a message about not forcing your beliefs on others? Screw you!)

Tommy in the 25th anniversary episode of Power Rangers. 9 other returning rangers but they keep making it about how awesome Tommy in particular is.

Not quite a guest star but this bit of Star Trek Discovery has aged horribly.

Simpsons Elon Musk episode. Puke. That SNL where they made Elon Musk the host has aged like milk. Not quite a guest star but this bit of Star Trek Discovery has aged horribly. You know, I've come into a lot of threads to find what I came to say was already said, or even just said, but rarely do I find myself the fourth person in a row (and sixth person overall) to say the same thing. It's kind of impressive, really. Anyway, all those self inflating cameos Elon Musk has paid for definitely count. They're all pretty cringe, and as an added bonus, they've also aged very badly. The Star Trek and Simpsons examples in particular, though his Iron Man cameo is particularly pathetic (movie, not a show, but still).

They’re missing out on that sweet Amy Jo Johnson nostalgia money. I imagine she had to be the first crush of a lot of millennials. Edit: Nuts just beaten to it! Oh well, great minds and all that
