I remember being 15, a week after my birthday I was looking forward to Raw since it was a 3 hour show furthering the McMahon death storyline and then all of a sudden I see a graphic that says “In memory of Chris Benoit 1967-2007” and then I see Vince in an empty arena making the announcement and I started balling my eyes out

He was one of my favorite wrestlers for a long time...then the truth came out about the tragedy.
I was extremely disappointed and frustrated that day.

I was 18 years old and had just finished my junior year of high school. I wept when I saw the news online. I wept for all three of them. Then the truth was revealed, and Chris means nothing. While I said five years ago in the exact same type of thread as this that I can watch his matches, I really don't go out of my way to watch them.

When I first found out I was sad, but in subsequent years, Benoit was a known abuser and a ticking time bomb to say the least. The only real victims are Nancy and Daniel Benoit and the family members that suffer through their loss. Chris is hopefully rotting in Hell for what he did.

This taught me a hard lesson in never guessing too soon what happened. The tributes were everywhere. I even changed my MSN Messenger picture for a day to Benoit.

I remember checking PWInsider for Vengeance news/results, and there was a small note that Benoit missed the show because of a “family emergency.” At that point I didn’t think much of it other than “gee, I hope everything’s okay.”
The next time I accessed the Internet was right before Raw started. As this was supposed to be the Mr. McMahon tribute show, I was all set to kick off my night of posting with a joke about which of these would dominate the show: Vengeance recaps or McMahon tribute segments. For no reason, I decided to visit WWE.com; that’s when I saw the headline:
BENOIT FAMILY DEAD.
Now without reading the article (and keep in mind that all the information hadn’t come out yet), I thought there had been some kind of accident, or even that someone had broken into the house and killed the family.
I raced over here and things were pretty tense, as you can imagine. My dad called me during the show to ask if I had heard what happened, and that’s when I learned that police were treating the case as a murder-suicide.

I couldn't believe it.
Still can't.
But from what I heard in shoot interviews, nobody was surprised by the news.
Benoit was a sick piece of shit for making Matt Striker squat till he pissed blood.
Ken Anderson said he thought it was hilarious to inject some kid with down syndrome with steroids too. I couldn't believe that story. What the f***.

A few days later, a few friends and I went to Las Vegas. Waiting on the flight back home, I stopped at a newsstand, and this was the cover story on People Magazine. I purchased it and we passed it around, reading the article while we waited for our plane. They weren’t as big of wrestling fans as me. But they’d watched during the Monday Night Wars and were very familiar with Benoit and Nancy. What can you say? It’s just a terribly sad, dark story.

I don't think I've ever done as extreme a 180 on how I viewed a person as Chris Benoit. He was one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. I cried and mourned for his death. Then the truth of his horrible deeds came to light and he became scum of the earth in my eyes.

The news about this him doing it gutted me. He was easily one of my top 10 wrestlers of all time. Dude was an absolute machine in the ring. All that is tainted forever though.

It’s hard to describe how much this event changed my views on the mainstream media, and in how I respond to stories when they first are reported on.
That was a very tough time to be a wrestling fan. Some good came out of it in terms of learning about concussions and drug testing but, it’s something I’ll never be able to fully wrap my head around.

I wasn't on the Internet much that day outside of briefly checking the results of Night of Champions.
Then I tuned into Raw that night and the opening In Memory graphic made my jaw drop.

As most people know, Raw is on in the early hours in the UK, back when this happened I’d worked a late shift and was tired but I still wanted to see the fallout to Vince’s limo. Predictably I fell asleep and missed the opening. I woke up to Cole and JBL talking and then to I believe it was John Cena’s tribute. I then hopped on the forum and followed the tributes turning into deserved scorn.
Crazy to think it’s been 15 years.

f*** Chris Benoit. He's a CHILD MURDERING BASTARD.
I see people on Facebook and other forums, daily, defending him, or blaming Kevin Sullivan. I get so angry.
I hate the man. I hate that he took the cowards way out, and I'm glad that WWE has erased him.

Here's the crazy part about this. I know remember where I read this, but the timeline of events.
I don't remember what day WWE got in contact with Benoit. But there was a story that after he did the crimes. There was word he debated trying to get a plane and actually make the show and wrestle Punk after everything happened.
If THIS happened. Could you image what the scene backstage would be like? People would've been out for him backstage.
Just an insane story.

I’d imagine he’d be arrested after a few days and that Punk/Benoit match would be retconned from wwe history, like the match wouldn’t even show up on the network or anything since it happened POST murder

There’s already evidence of multiple wrestlers texting him when he went silent if they needed to help him cover up anything and that they’d lie for him.

Being from the UK I didn't find out until I went to school the next day and a friend told me. At that point the full details had been uncovered. My brother was the same age as his son so it really affected my Mum and she rightly asked me to throw out a figure I had of Benoit.
It was horrific that the little boy was robbed of his life before it even began.

So basically he's going to be walking backstage after committing the murders. Put on a wrestling match. And everything is normal. Man is that warped to think, if he indeed hopped on the plane and performed at the PPV.

f*** Chris Benoit. I just wish that someone that knew what was really going on could have convinced Nancy to take Daniel and leave before ir came to this.
