Looks like this pissed Gresham off enough he may be done with wrestling.
From Fightful:
- Gresham asked for his release ahead of the show. He was frustrated by a lack of communication from the company and he felt disrespected. Also thought the world title match didn't get enough time and felt disrespected by that.
- Got a meeting with Tony Khan before Death Before Dishonor and cursed him out.
- Gresham had interest from Japan, IMPACT and others before resigning with ROH.
- Fightful reached out to Khan and Gresham for responses, and were told that as of this moment, Gresham is "done with wrestling for the foreseeable future after this month." They were were also told that Gresham came out without his regular entrance gear because he wanted to be himself and see everything clearly for what would possibly be his last match.
No official word from AEW yet, and it has not been confirmed that Gresham was granted his request for release. SRS also noted that in the past, several former AEW talent have spoken about the lack of communication being a point of frustration for them.

If he doesn't want to work there and feels undervalued, he should leave and I hope his request is granted.
But I do think there is also a conversation to be had about whether this is the right choice for him going forward. I don't think being visibly update on camera with the demeanor and the entrance attire does him any favors in the future. And even if you're not the top guy in ROH, you can still be positioned in a positive way for the long term. They featured him on TV. He was placed at the head of a stable. I think there was room in both companies for him to shine. He can probably do well in a place like Impact or maybe explore New Japan but in terms of money and exposure, this was probably the best place for him.

Not shocked. Gresham has always been a guy who had a vision of what wrestling is and a huge chip on his shoulders. Still references the mask thing from Chikara (look up Heiracon) and how much he hated it near a decade later. Guy has all the talent in the world, and I hope Terminus is able to launch to give him something, but he can be his own worst enemy.

I've updated the post with a summary of the actual Fightful reporting and it looks this pissed him off enough that he may just be done wrestling, period. Wrestling retirements aren't permanent 99% of the time, but who knows.

Sounds like he’s taking a sabbatical from wrestling in general. Which is why he did not wear his mask to the ring last night.

Gresham having a massive tantrum is very on brand for him. He's a great talent but meh.
Genuinely hope Terminus becomes. A regular place that people can work.

I can understand not wanting to work with a company with bad communication habbits, but f***, retirement? That's a bit of an overreaction.

To be completely fair, it’s not the first time we’ve heard of things being chaotic backstage in AEW.

While I agree Gresham was unprofessional here, I do think that Tony really needs to start adding some management structure to the company instead of what seems to be by all reports, just flying by the seat of his pants when it comes to talent relations.

The lack of Communication thing was on management but the rest is on Gresham..

They had that thing with Shida as well awhile back. Where it seems like they did not communicate well with her either. And she was a bit annoyed.

Nakazawa was in Japan back then iirc, he is the one who helps the Joshi talent... but yeah there needs to be more people helping in management

Not just Shida, Emi Sakura pretty much put AEW on blast for not even helping foreign talents (especially Japanese ones) relocate to the US and get settled in. They pretty much just throw the talent into the deep end and expect them to survive on their own without any help.

The irony of that only Maki, Yuka and Riho said how AEW has helped them but is likely thanks to Kenny.

I think Tony needs to perhaps find some qualified people who can handle some of these duties full time. It’s took much for any one person to try and handle alone.

My thoughts. Certainly not gonna blame TK for prioritizing his own guts who he’s already invested heavily in but at the same time, def get the frustration and this is like the most unprofessional business ever, haha.

Apparently Christopher Daniels is supposed to be helping out with this stuff, but just like Tony, tends to ghost talents if he doesn't like them. It's becoming more of a "feature" in AEW at this point than an issue, and that's a problem.
