Gunn’s work outside Marvel has been fine, and I don’t think he’s made anything that wasn’t at least entertaining. My concern is he’s not who I’d go with for Superman. Neither Guardians of the Galaxy nor Suicide Squad cared too much about comic accuracy when it came to the characters, their looks or their personalities. He was able to get away with that when using obscure characters (don’t pretend you read GOTG or Charlton Comics), but doing that with Superman would cause him the same problem Snyder had in his films. This is based on the assumption that Gunn hasn't learned from Snyder's mistakes. Snyder wanted to make a movie examining how the world would react to an alien living on Earth. It just happened to have Superman in the lead role, but might as well have otherwise been an original character. Had it been an original character people might have poked fun at the superficial similarities between it and Superman, but it wouldn't have received any meaningful pushback. Gunn says he wants to tell a Superman story, and until we see anything that says otherwise I don't see the harm in taking him at his word.

Gunn used “truth, justice and the American way,” when describing his Superman film, and that right there makes me give him a chance. I’m still a big fan of MoS and DoJ, but admit neither Superman nor Batman was done well in the films. My concern with Gunn is he names recent (20 years) Superman stories as his favorite stuff. That’s fine if he enjoys it, but I think we’re going to get Superman vs. The Elite, but with the Authority as stand ins.

Superman vs The Elite does a fantastic job of showing why Superman is great.

if he is doing Superman vs. the Elite which I'm not sure he is doing cause he said he wanted a younger Superman story and that is a story when he is fully entrenched in it...
he'd have plenty of dialogue to pull from over people that talk about how badass the Elite are just from Snyder and his bros >_>
Not that I think he would since he is friends with Snyder... but... yeah...

That is not the characters I expected in a Superman movie. At least not one that is introducing a new Superman.
Guy f***ing Gardner. Lmao

Not going to lie, this is giving me Black Adam vibes with how they're throwing in other heroes, and did that help the film? No.

The work rate may be better if Superman fought Mssrs Omega, Page and Bucks, however Superman vs Triple H and Steph has a bigger box office appeal.

Gunn has said that the DCU will have heroes already established in it. It’s been heavily implied that the Batfamily will already be a thing in the Brave and the Bold film as well.
So my guess is they’re going with the “JSA already existed before Superman came along” idea.

So I just leaned that David Corenswet is Jewish on his father's side and his maternal grandfather created the Choose Your Own Adventure books. Superman has always had a lot of Jewish coding to him so it's neat to see an actor of Jewish descent actually play him for the first time in live action. Possibly ever, though I'm not 100% on all the voices actors beyond the most major ones like Tim Daly and George Newbern. EDIT: Max Mittelman and Yuri Lowenthal voiced Superman in some stuff, so Corenswet isn't the first outright Jewish actor to play him in any media at least.

No. In Black Adam's case, the shitty writing and Dwayne's acting did way more to harm that movie than anything with the JSA. If anything they were one of the better parts of the movie.

And we don’t know the context for their roles anyway, for all we know, Clark could be speaking to them as a reporter and they wouldn’t factor to the wider film anyway.

Yeah it could literally be like cameos of meta humans around the world Hell Guy could just be a regular dude here.

Yeah it could literally be like cameos of meta humans around the world Especially considering this and Blue Beetle are supposed to establish the new DCU as a whole, that seems to be the best approach. Also this DCU has Luis Guzman so it’s already an improvement. But he will have the bowl cut, though. The most important part of Guy.
