Airports, restaurants, gyms, hotels and family time are a no go for approaching wrestlers. There is a decorum for approaching wrestlers in restaurants. Back in my younger days, I would say something like "excuse me, do you mind if after you finish your meal I take a photo with you?" Jack Swagger, came to our table after he finished his meal and said "ok, I am ready to take that photo with you." Yeah, that's fairly reasonable, particularly if you're not pushy about it/they aren't in a situation where you approaching them might get them piled on by fans.

On one hand, it’s great that Rhea clearly knows her audience and is playing up to them. But on the other, dealing with those types in real life has to be a major drag. I think you know the type I mean.

I literally had the Bellas, Teej and Nattie behind me in line at the airport to board a plane from Curacao. Like literally, directly behind me.
Even if I were a huge fan of any of them, it would never occur to me to bug them about anything, like, why would you?
Just note you shared a plane with them and keep it moving.

That's the sad irony really, the real genuine fans will respect and give their heroes or idols their space and these are the types of people celebs would probably love to talk or sign things for more then not. These jerks who bother them just ruin it for the actual nice decent respectful folks.

I see folks sharing stories of encounters in unexpected places, so I will too. To date, this has been my only meeting with a celebrity outside of a sanctioned autograph signing. Before WWE started running the show earlier in the month, SummerSlam usually happened around my birthday. So in 1995, my parents got me tickets—my first PPV in person!—and a room at a nearby hotel. The day before the show, my dad and I were coming back from lunch when who do we see at the elevators but … Shawn Michaels! I swear, Mom and Dad had no idea this was the same hotel the talent were staying at when they booked the room. Shawn wasn’t talking to anyone, just standing there alone waiting for the elevator. Dad was the one who recognized him and asked me if I wanted to say hi. The thought of talking to someone I had only seen on television absolutely terrified me; even though I knew wrestling was entertainment, it still had that bit of mystery in ‘95. I believe this was the first year we heard the word “internet” on WWE TV. I was scared to interact with them at the Fan Festival just a few months earlier, and that was a controlled environment where wrestlers knew they would be approached. You can imagine my nervousness over seeing one in the wild, so to speak. Shawn was really nice. Dad told him we were celebrating my birthday, so Shawn wished me a happy birthday and gave me an autograph. I remember Dad asking him “so, do you think you’ll win tomorrow?” Shawn smiled and said “well, I didn’t come here to lose.” And we shared an elevator ride with a future member of the Hall of Fame. Best birthday ever! This story could have ended very badly considering this is 1995 Shawn Michaels but I’m happy it worked out.
