From some reports it sounds as though WWE is going to take the issue in hand with some policy changes.

I've seen MVP at a bar and the grocery store. Left him alone at the bar but I did wave to him at the store. He pointed at me with a smile and we both went on our way.
It literally costs nothing to wave or leave people alone.

I can't believe people still think it's the wrestlers duty to have to give up their own privacy because they are performers.
I will NEVER understand the whole "WE PAY FOR YOU TO EAT" so you get to do whatever you want basically when it comes to the performers.
Much smaller scale but I dated a stripper for a year and she would fight similar issues with stalking, predication, etc

I'm surprised airport security doesn't do more to crack down on this memorabilia shit. You can't get into terminals and near gates without a ticket and boarding pass. But even hanging around less restricted areas like the baggage claim, if you have your arms full of Funko Pops and 8x10s, you're clearly not a traveler, meeting a friend or family member or offering anyone a ride. Do they have a legit reason to be there? No? They're just bothering people they don't know? Then run those turds right out of there.

The only time I ever spoke to a wrestler at an airport is when I happened to be flying on the same plane with Debra McMichael.

Agreed but you will notice if you travel much at all in the US that airport security is almost always either around the food court or outside. They seem to actively avoid the transition areas. It's insane the lack of visible security in those places and the amount of people with a "not my job" attitude.

Wrestlers are human beings. Fame or not, they're as entitled to privacy and not being "on" as any other schmuck.
Like I saw Mick Foley at a New York Comic Con while on a line for hot dogs from a street cart and he happened to walk by. People on the line (including me) just said hello to him and waved, and he waved back and asked how everyone was doing. Short and sweet. We showed our appreciation for the guy and in turn he acknowledged us. Mutual respect. More fan encounters should be like my hot dog line compatriots and me and less like airport stalker scumbags.

I see folks sharing stories of encounters in unexpected places, so I will too. To date, this has been my only meeting with a celebrity outside of a sanctioned autograph signing.
Before WWE started running the show earlier in the month, SummerSlam usually happened around my birthday. So in 1995, my parents got me tickets—my first PPV in person!—and a room at a nearby hotel. The day before the show, my dad and I were coming back from lunch when who do we see at the elevators but … Shawn Michaels!
I swear, Mom and Dad had no idea this was the same hotel the talent were staying at when they booked the room. Shawn wasn’t talking to anyone, just standing there alone waiting for the elevator.
Dad was the one who recognized him and asked me if I wanted to say hi. The thought of talking to someone I had only seen on television absolutely terrified me; even though I knew wrestling was entertainment, it still had that bit of mystery in ‘95. I believe this was the first year we heard the word “internet” on WWE TV. I was scared to interact with them at the Fan Festival just a few months earlier, and that was a controlled environment where wrestlers knew they would be approached. You can imagine my nervousness over seeing one in the wild, so to speak.
Shawn was really nice. Dad told him we were celebrating my birthday, so Shawn wished me a happy birthday and gave me an autograph. I remember Dad asking him “so, do you think you’ll win tomorrow?” Shawn smiled and said “well, I didn’t come here to lose.” And we shared an elevator ride with a future member of the Hall of Fame.
Best birthday ever!

I honestly can't understand why, in the age we live in, that people still think it's OK to stalk and harass celebrities at an airport. Just because they're famous and you know who they are, doesn't mean they owe you a damn thing. At the end of the day, they're human beings just like us and are entitled to their personal space and private time. I don't blame Rhea for being pissed, and I wouldn't blame any wrestler who chooses not to interact with fans outside of paid, scheduled meet and greets.

I was on a flight with Mick Foley the day before Royal Rumble 2017 from NY heading to San Antonio, didn't want to disturb him so I left him alone. Of course it didn't stop everyone else from bothering him but he was very nice about it.

Between this and the predatory autograph seekers (they ain’t fans) with Rey. I’m glad to hear WWE might be stepping in.
My friend actually ran into Rhea at an airport gift shop after the rumble, and had a great interaction and got a photo with her. Then again my friend is a woman in her late 20s and is extremely timid.
Wresters, actors, musicians, they know the difference between a fan and an asshole that’s just a trying to make a buck.
I always try to read the room if I go up to someone famous, Dalton Castle was so amused with me coming up to him at a soccer game and telling him he was now my favorite wrestler because Danhausen and Mance Warner both broke their legs at the show I went to, that when I met him again at his merch table at a show he had me retell it on his vlog.
Then recently I met Mad Man Pongo at toy vomet in Lexington (I’m only saying the name because they have one of biggest wrestling toy selections in the United States) I asked politely if I could get a selfie, he says “hand the phone to her” and then put me in a headlock for a photo op.
Yes it’s these peoples job to entertain us, just like any job it’s set hours, they’re only getting paid when they’re doing shows, or conventions. After that they’re normal people just like us, so give them a little space even more so when traveling.

Actually worked at a cafeteria Randy Orton's mom work(s?) at a few years ago. She'd talk about him all the time once she knew I was a fan. He came through one day with her and I could barely bring myself to do anything besides ring him up until she encouraged me to talk to him. Super cool dude. That said, I could never bring myself to just approach someone cold and do this kind of shit. Screw entitled assholes who think that just because they buy a ticket that they can pull crap like this.

A couple years ago Im outside in line waiting to be let in to see Bird Man at the art house movie theater in Nashville, all of a sudden this giant red head comes out of the theater, the guy in front of me says to her “how was the movie!?” She turns and says “it was really good!” That was my second hand interaction with Nichole Kidman. Which makes the AMC pre movie ad even more funny.

I saw Mick Foley and Owen Hart walking around Mall of America before a house show in 1998. I saw them several times, riding rides, and shopping. Never went up to them, as it seemed like they were enjoying the privacy.
Makes me sad. Read an interview like 10-15 years later where Foley said he and Owen were one of the few people who liked to explore the cities they were in and do touristy things. The other performers would usually just hang out at the hotel.

I remember being outside a theater in Washington DC and seeing the actor Jack Wagner swarmed by autograph hounds to the point he could barely get to his car. And that was Jack Wagner (no offense to him, but come on). Now, my friend, who was in the car with me, jumped out and ran over there to get his autograph, even though he has literally never heard of Jack Wagner before this. "Everyone else was doing it" he told me. Some weird psychology around fame, I'll tell you. Daytime soap stars, my man, never understimate the size of their fanbase.

I think also for the safety of the talent, it is not the worst idea to have travelling WWE security with the crew as they depart from town to town.

Daytime soap fans are f***ing nuts. Like, a lot of them treat the actors like they're the actual characters.

Airports, restaurants, gyms, hotels and family time are a no go for approaching wrestlers. There is a decorum for approaching wrestlers in restaurants. Back in my younger days, I would say something like "excuse me, do you mind if after you finish your meal I take a photo with you?" Jack Swagger, came to our table after he finished his meal and said "ok, I am ready to take that photo with you."
