I’ll ask this like I do most of these things, did they address that in the match or in any segments before this one (since I only saw the clip) or are we adding context that isn’t there? Because that’s a wildly different thing. Several segments to be honest. Seth betraying Roman has been mentioned as a pretty big part of the Tribal Chief's narrative since Seth started feuding with Roman again 2 years ago. I would go more into it, but someone on Twitter did that already lol. One thing I'll give them credit for is consistently justifying why Seth is there and why he gets under Roman's skin so much. It was the thing they needed to tie together why this was Roman's story just as much as it was Cody's. I appreciate the response, thank you. I will say one of the older era gripes I had was when people put in storylines and narrative beats that were never addressed on the show, which was why I asked, so at the very least, they're doing that sort of stuff on television for people to see and reference and not thinking QR codes and web links can cover for that.

WWE hiring that guy in charge of long-term storytelling certainly helps with keeping things like Seth's constant antagonism towards Roman consistent with who the characters are.

That was a great match. I was surprised at how long it took them to get to the clusterf*** but in the meantime both of them brought it. It wasn't plodding like some Roman matches, they played their parts to a tee. While I wouldn't have had Seth get murked before he could do anything, he really did add a lot with the SHIELD entrance. That moment where Roman had a chance to hit Cody and instead reversed Seth's betrayal from years ago was fantastic. Cena beelining for Solo, the Usos taking each other out. Probably the only one that seemed a bit random was Undertaker, but then he and Rock have history so it worked. The right choice was made and for a long time I didn't trust them to make that choice. I heard a lot of talk this week about a new era and Wrestlemania definitely drove that point home.
As for Roman's reign ending, it's about damn time. I just wish they would have acknowledged how much he needs to cheat to win on commentary. Still, a great match with a great finish.

I will say I thought Cody and Roman were having a damn good straight up wrestling match even before the shenanigans started. At no point was I bored just waiting for the run ins to start. They have great chemistry. I’d love a third match between them some day even if it will be stressful because it’ll take a while for the Tribal Chief PTSD to subside lol.

The emotion is Samantha's voice, as she announced the winner, got to me. It just really added to the meaningfulness of the moment. From Samantha to Graves to Cole. They all almost broke, and it was incredible. I’m jaded as hell about this business but I was just about to break too. Emotion.

I just saw the clip of Logan Paul crying tears of joy when Cody got the win. Cody had the world by the heart.

The Undertaker thing, I guess that can get by with him being "the conscience of the WWE"
Tenuous but it's there, they could at least have gotten him some gear for it though

Even got some "YES!" chants going. Bryan's just one of those guys that's universally respected by everyone, no matter where he's plying his craft.

Seeing Randy hoist Cody up on his shoulder postmatch and the look of pride on his face, man that was so cool

Seeing Randy hoist Cody up on his shoulder postmatch and the look of pride on his face, man that was so cool Similarly I just finished rewatching the show and I realized Cody’s win was so big that it managed to get Cena, Orton, Punk, and Triple H all in the ring at the same time, and they were all happy.

Seeing Randy hoist Cody up on his shoulder postmatch and the look of pride on his face, man that was so cool Recreating Bret Hart's big win 30 years ago. Cody now feuds with his brother over the summer, and loses the title to Bob Backlund at Survivor Series.
