I don’t care for any of the characters but this doesn’t look too bad. A fun romp I won’t complain about one bit.

I don't like Brie either, but not because I'm a basement dweller who reads comics. I just don't think she's a good actress. You don't have to come up with a bazillion weird false narratives to dismiss someone you find to be a crappy actress. Yeah I guess that Best Actress Oscar was just a fluke. Unless you are just looking for a reason to hate her.

Looks exactly like the kind of mindless brain-turn-off fun I want out of my Marvel stuff. I'm in.

Captain Marvel got lucky all those years ago being put out at the pinnacle of Endgame hype. People aren't going to give Brie that kind of money again. I liked Monica in Wandavision well enough though. Don't have a high opinion on the Ms. Marvel series (Kamala in general is a boring character) I think this should have been a Disney+ show. I always find it funny when folks insist that Captain Marvel made it to a billion solely off of Endgame hype. Meanwhile Ant-Man and the Wasp came out 2-3 months after Infinity War, in July (meaning summer blockbuster), stars an already established hero, and on top of all that, features a lead the internet tells me is much more popular than Brie Larson. Reminder, Ant-Man and the Wasp is the lowest grossing film in all of Phase 3, and rounds out the top (bottom?) ten lowest grossing films in the franchise. Meanwhile, Quantumania, which has all the above, plus featuring a villain who’s meant to be a big deal for the next big MCU crossover extravaganza (though that’s likely under jeopardy now thanks to Jonathan Majors being a massive abuser) ended up underperforming.

The Razzies are a joke. Some will say the Oscars are as well... but at least it's been around for nearly 100 years and has some modicum of respectability (at least when compared to the Razzies). Pretty much every actor has movies/shows they aren't exactly proud of. Not every actor has been recognized as the Best in the business. edit: I say all that not being a fan of the Academy dating back to the documentary Hoop Dreams not only being snubbed for a Best Picture nomination (my opinion) but not even getting a nomination for Best Documentary (most people's opinion including mine). It's one of the best movies I've ever seen to this day.

Looks a lot of fun. Hell, it's an ensemble cast. Even if you don't like Brie there are two other leads.

Yeah, I don't buy the "Captain Marvel only made a billion because of Endgame hype" narrative either. The hype definitely helped on opening weekend and probably boosted the earnings by a hundred mil or so, but it took over a billion dollars over two months at the box office and audiences knew pretty damn quickly that the movie had no tangible links to Endgame. It's not unreasonable to conclude that audiences simply liked the movie and its word-of-mouth was strong.

But "people actually liked Captain Marvel" disrupts the whole "I want to shit on Brie Larson without looking like a misogynistic Cheeto-huffer" narrative!

They're gonna have to give Kamala a bunch of nerve pills for her to stop freaking out over everything that happens.

Endgame hype probably didn't hurt but that alone didn't make the first movie as successful as it was. The movie made $12 million less its opening weekend than Batman vs. Superman did but 30% more money overall, with both movies coming out in March, which should go to show how much positive reception and word of mouth can sway things.

Looks fun. To me this looks like the first proper merging of the films and D+ shows. Doctor Strange was the first *attempt* at it, but because they basically blindsided Raimi with having to include the WandaVision stuff, it didn't gel well at all. Like they got some of the plot points in there but they didn't meet exactly flush with how they were done in the show, if that makes sense.
This looks like it is continuing on exactly from the ending teaser in Ms. Marvel.

Yeah, especially since, in comparison, Quantumania did great in its first weekend and absolutely dropped like a stone the second weekend and struggled to gain any momentum with other stuff coming out. John Wick 4 killed any hope of that, never mind Super Mario.

I'm an MCU fanboy, I've seen everything but the Groot shorts, but I'll even admit some of the shine is gone. Thor and Ant-Man both looked "Fun" but they were what they were. I really enjoyed No Way Home, and Dr. Stange was great because they let Sam Raimi run with it, everything else was middle of the road, Black Panther was a great tribute to T'Challa but not much else, Blackwidow was good but pointless, and Shang-Chi being good but paint by numbers origin, and Eternal... it just sucks. I think they're still feeling the growing pains too from overloading on the Disney Plus shows.. Who was seriously asking for an Echo show?
