2. Pre Show Match: "Making a Difference" Fatu pinned Rad Radford at 5:22 with a big splash off the top rope.

7. WWF Tag Team Champions The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart) defeated Reverend Backlund and Adam Bomb at 6:12 when Billy pinned Bomb after the sidewinder; after the match Backlund and Bomb argued with Bomb shoving Backlund down before Backlund attacked him from behind and applied the crossface chicken wing.
8. 9. Bret "Hitman" Hart defeated Jean Pierre Lafitte at 16:37 via submission with the Sharpshooter after both men collided; after the match, Hart regained possession of his jacket.
10. "The Black Hart" Owen Hart, "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, and Yokozuna (w/ Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji) defeated WWF World Champion Diesel, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, and WWF Intercontinental Champion "The American Original" Lex Luger at 15:42 when Smith pinned Diesel with the running powerslam after Yokozuna hit a legdrop to the back of Diesel's head as he had Smith covered.

Yep, that PPV went exactly how I expected it to. I think going forward, of greatest interest to me is the Intercontinental Title picture. There are a few ways it could go imo. Douglas ending up with it via some sort of shenanigans, then he drops it to Razor. Razor could win it in another face vs. face match. Owen is another possibility, but I get the sense he and Yokozuna might be in the tag team division for at least a little while. One other outside possibility is The Kid, especially if he's going down the same path he did IRL.

News and NotesHorowitz Wins! There's a saying that persistence tears down resistance. Nobody exemplifies this quote better then Barry Horowitz. Horowitz has been wrestling on and off in the WWF as a perennial wrestler since 1987. During that eight year span Horowitz has not once won a single match. That would change on the September 30th Superstars when Horowitz took on Jerry "The King" Lawler. Lawler was extremely confident going into the match. And why wouldn't be as he was wrestling a guy who hadn't won a match in eight years. Before the contest in the locker room Horowitz would ask for advice from one of the all time greats in Bret Hart, knowing that Hart had wrestled Lawler quite a bit in the past and could maybe give him some helpful pointers. Hart brought up to Horowitz that Lawler liked to use the piledriver to put people away and that the best way to counter it would be to take The King down with a double leg take down and roll him up into a jackknife pin. Horowitz would head to the ring with Hart's advice in his mind. Lawler was caught off guard early when Horowitz, with more determination then usual, managed to outwrestle the King in the early going, using amateur takedown moves to send him down to the canvas. Eventually though Lawler would take control after Horowitz got a tad overzealous and missed crossbody. It looked like yet another loss was imminent for Horowitz. Then Lawler began to set up for the piledriver just like Hart said he would. Remembering the advice of the Hitman when Lawler began to set up for his finishing move, Horowitz would swiftly take him down with a double leg takedown and in one swift motion rolled him into a jackknife rollup. The surprised King couldn't kick as the referee's hand hit the mat for third time. The fans erupted! It had finally happened! Horowitz won! Afterwards when Horowitz returned to the dressing room a celebration was waiting for him with the Hitman himself leading it. When being interviewed by Jim Ross about his big win Horowitz would reveal the advice that Bret had given him and then thanked all the fans who never gave up on him. Since then Lawler has been plotting revenge against Horowitz for the embarrassing loss he handed him that The King has called nothing but a fluke. On the October 8th Action Zone to prove it Lawler would Horowitz challenge to a 10 minute challenge match. Lawler would once again have trouble with Horowitz and on a few occasions was almost pinned by him again. In the later stages of the match the King would take control but every time he went for a cover Horowitz would kick out until eventually the ten minute time limit ran out. Horowitz had embarrassed the King again. On the October 9th Raw Horowitz would look to continue his newfound momentum against the undefeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Unfortunately for Horowitz his winning streak would end at 2 as Helmsley would execute the pedigree to pin him. After the match Lawler would then attack the defeated Horowitz and give him a piledriver. Undeterred Horowitz would be back in the ring on October 15th Action Zone to take on another man with a strong win-loss record in Hakushi. During the match Lawler and his henchman Issac Yankem would come down to ringside to take a look. As Lawler distracted the referee, Yankem would try to interfere on Hakushi's behalf. However it would backfire as Horowitz would duck a Yankem clothesline and Hakushi ended up getting nailed by it instead. Horwowitz would dropkick Yankem out of the ring and then cover Hakushi to score yet another upset. On October 22nd at In Your House #4 Horowitz will step into the ring with Lawler once again. Will Lawler be able to regain at least some credibility by finally beating Horowitz? Or will Horowitz's new found confidence allow him to humble the arrogant King one more time? Brains Versus BrawnSince coming to the WWF Dean Douglas has often been seen at ringside scouting opponents. Lately Douglas has been scouting WWF Intercontinental Champion "The American Original" Lex Luger. Douglas says that he has formulated a gameplan for the champion that can't fail and that in a battle of his brains against Luger's muscles the Dean wins every time. On the October 2nd Raw Douglas would send his top student, Vernon Baxter, into the ring to take on Luger as Dean took notes in his classroom. Luger would easily defeat the Dean's star pupil with the torture rack. However after the match Douglas would attack Luger from behind and badly injure the champion's ribs after suplexing him midsection first across the steel guardrail. Luger has proven to be extremely resilient over the years but the injury he's suffered along with intellect of the Dean could prove to be too much for The American Original when he defends his title against Douglas at In Your House #4. Lights, Camera, ActionUnusual. Weird. Strange. Bizarre. All these words describe Goldust to a T. In August unnerving vignettes began airing to promote the androgenous superstar. Hailing from the city of stars, Hollywood, Goldust claims that he is the biggest star of them all and it won't be long before nobody ever would forgets the name of Goldust. Other then being bizarre and a movie buff who likes to deliver quotes from classic films, not much is known as about this enigmatic superstar. At In Your House #4 Goldust will get to show what he's all about when he makes his long awaited premier against Marty Jannetty who has recently made his return to the WWF. Jannetty is man with impressive credentials as he's a former Intercontinental and two time Tag Team Champion. Will Jannetty spoil the bizarre one's debut and make his big premier a box office flop? Or will the former Rockers comeback campaign go Gone With The Wind courtesy of Goldust? Owen and Yoko: Gunning For Billy and BartOwen Hart and Yokozuna have both been forces in the singles ranks the last few years. However now they are putting together their individual skills together to form a tag team. Manager Jim Cornette feels the speed and technique of Hart and the size and power of Yokozuna will be an unbeatable combination. With wins over Tekno Team 2000, Razor Ramon and Savio Vega, and former champions Men on a Mission; the duo of Hart and Yokozuna have already become the number one contenders for the WWF Tag Team Championship. In Your House #4 will be the biggest night of Cornette's career as he has chance to be not only be the manager of the WWF Tag Team Champions Hart and Yokozuna when they face The Smoking Gunns but also the WWF World Champion when The British Bulldog takes on Diesel. Michaels SidelinedOn October 13th Shawn Michaels was injured in a bar fight after being attacked by a group of thugs. Michaels suffered a concussion in the attack although it is expected that he will be back in action by the Survivor Series. RankingsSinglesDiesel: WWF World Champion(c) 317, Detroit, MI 1. I love that we both ended up doing a Luger rib injury and they both got posted on the same day lol Were they doing a rib injury angle with him in WCW at the time after he got chokeslammed through the table by Giant? I'm pretty sure they did it the following year when he was feuding with Arn.

I'm pretty sure they did it the following year when he was feuding with Arn. No, the angle they were doing was Luger kept missing title matches against The Giant due to scheduling conflicts, and the faces were accusing Luger of being afraid of The Giant. Which made no sense, since Luger was the challenger. That's why I did the injury instead.

Which made no sense, since Luger was the challenger. That's why I did the injury instead. Oh yeah that's right. I guess they were still doing the ambiguous thing with Luger as to whether he was going to turn on Sting or not by making it come off like he might be a chicken s**t who is scared of Giant. However like you said it made no sense with Giant being the champion at the time. Even the most cowardly heel isn't going to no show a World Title match. I don't remember it going anywhere either as it seemed like shortly after it was just kind of dropped with Luger just becoming a full fledged face although that might have as a result of the Hostile Takeover angle. Probably the only negative of the NWO angle is that it took away from some of the heels that were getting pushes at the time since everyone kind of had to become faces to at least an extent with the bigger heel threat coming in. And even that was only a slight negative as in some cases like Luger and DDP they were able to pivot nicely with good storylines with them where they actually ended up in better positions as babyfaces then they were heels. I guess really the only guys who were hurt by it were Regal and Mongo.

5. How long did you agonise over the name "Vernon Baxter"? Like, people like to dump on the names that wrestlers get, particularly in WWE, but I can't imagine it's easy trying to think of something better most of the time that isn't what they already had.

I was just trying to think of the most nerdy sounding name possible. There's another new character coming up soon with a different name that I had to think a while about. I guess what the character is, if alliteration can be used in any way, and what the person's real name is are things I thought about. On top of the names just sounding unnatural I think a lot of times with WWE names they don't pick ones that match up with the wrestlers gimmick. Like Blair Davenport for instance sounds like a preppy rich girl not a mean goth girl heel.

News and Notes
Mercy: Digging His Own Grave? It's not often that you see someone go out of their way to target The Undertaker. And for good reason as he's perhaps the most dangerous man in the WWF. However Waylon Mercy is someone who doesn't seem to have the respect for the Phenom that most do. In October cryptic videos began airing on WWF television of Mercy in a cematary digging a grave that he said he was preparing for Undertaker. Then at In Your House #4 Mercy wound interfere in Undertaker's match with Sycho Sid and brutally attack the man from the darkside, choking him out with a piano wire. If Mercy wanted Undertaker's attention he definitely got it.
While Undertaker has always owned a psychological advantage over previous opponents via intimidation, that doesn't seem to be the case with Mercy who comes off as calm, cool, and even somewhat nonchalant about the whole situation. Mercy is just about the same size as Undertaker both in height and weight and like Taker is also incredibly tough where it takes a lot to hurt him any way. Mercy so far as demolished every opponent he's stepped into the ring with. However none of those opponent were of the same elite caliber that Undertaker is either. At the Survivor Series these two dark and mystic figures will collide one and one. Will Mercy establish himself as the new man in the WWF that everyone should be afraid of? Or will he just be another casualty of The Undertaker?
"The Red Cent Man" Ted Dibiase In a shocking turn of events "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase has gone belly up. Bust. Broke. Down and out. Due to a gambling addiction and scams that didn't turn a profit Dibiase has lost his financial resources and has now fled the WWF in shame. What happened to the man that had everything?
Clues of Dibiase's financial woes began creeping up over the last year. At the start of the year Dibiase managed six wrestlers in his Million Dollar Corporation and by October that amount had been cut in half to three. At the time it seemed like the demanding Dibiase overreacting and firing wrestlers for failing to meet his expectations. However in retrospect it might have had more to do with him not being able to afford to pay them. Also the usually well groomed and manicured Dibiase would slowly start getting more shaggy and haggard looking. Usually dressed to the nines Dibiase would trade in his Armani Suits for track suits after being repeatedly slopped by Henry Godwinn.
On the October 23rd Raw it was announced that Dibiase's Million Dollar Corporation had been bought out by a young woman named Tamara Stevens. Stevens a haughty socialite from Boston will now be managing the remaining members (Sycho Sid, Kama, and Tatanka) of what was the Million Dollar Corporation and will now be known as the Stevens Society. Stevens has also brought with her another wrestler to manage in her boyfriend "The Elite Athlete" Chris Candido, an equally arrogant individual who is also a very gifted and skilled wrestler in his early 20's. Stevens also has a wrestler in the women's division in Aja Kong, a 227 pound wrecking ball from Japan who could be a serious contender for Alundra Blayze's Women's Championship.
Along with her wealth and intelligence Stevens has also showed that she isn't shy about using her feminine wiles to her advantage which was evident on the October 30th Raw. As Kama and Tatanka were taking on the team of Razor Ramon and The 1-2-3 Kid, Stevens would feign that she had been knocked unconscious after being accidentally knocked off the apron by the Kid. As the young and impressionable Kid did the gentleman thing to do and checked on her, it would leave Ramon to be doubled teamed and pinned with Stevens then popping up right after and laughing, revealing it was a set up all along while also causing even more friction between Ramon and the Kid. It looks like The Stevens Society could be a major force to reckon with in 1996 and onward.
As for Dibiase apparently he's already lost all the money he made on the sale.
Blayze Regains Gold On the October 30th "Made in the USA" Alundra Blayze defeated Bertha Faye to win the Women's Championship for a third time, tying her with the Fabulous Moolah for most Women's Title reigns in history. Blayze would avenge her defeat to Faye at Summerslam by remarkably lifting the 260 pound champion in the Patriot Plex to pin her for a three count. At the Survivor Series Blayze and Faye will once again meet when they captain respective teams in a five against five elimination match.
Departures Doink The Clown and Mantaur are both no longer with the WWF.
