as a huge Mike Awesome Mark this really f***in saddens me. I mean Bam Bam was terrible cause it was unexpected. But Mike Awesome hung himself. sadly he could had been helped.
this is soo awful and i can't muster anything else to say, this is the first time since eddy that I am shocked.

I'm... just shocked.
I didn't see anything about this yesterday. I just saw a thread for "favorite Awesome matches" and wondered what's going on.
Mike Awesome was a great wrestler. He could have a match with almost anyone and make it a wrestling match . I always thought that he would just power over Hayabusa, but those matches were really good give-and-take matches. And his matches with Masato Tanaka (ECW and FMW) were wars. When he appeared in WCW, I SO wanted to see Awesome vs. Hogan...
My condolences go out to the family and friends of Mike "Awesome" Alfonso.
Rest in Peace, Gladiator...

Wow, I'm shocked. He could have been one of the biggest stars of this generation if WCW hadn't buried him. Amazing skills, a big man who could fly like a cruiser. His match with Tanaka at ONS '05 will always be a favorite of mine.
R.I.P Mike Awesome

The sport has lost an exceptional athlete, and a guy with a great work ethic. Big men who can work on the mat or in the air are rare. Big men who can work on the mat and in the air like Mike Awesome are extremely rare. The feud with Tanaka proved that the man could've been a big star. It's a damn shame he was never given the opportunity to become one. I'll never forget the jumping sitout Awesome Bomb from the apron through the table on the outside. And how Awesome, not Tanaka, actually took the brunt of the spot, gashing his leg in the process. It was that kind of work ethic, the willingness to go through nasty bumps to entertain the crowd, that I admired in Awesome and in the original ECW in general. This has me bummed out. Such a waste of so much talent and potential. But I guess his reasons are his business. R.I.P. Mike.

After getting my first experience with Awesome at ONS, and being blown away, then looking up some of his older stuff, this is a huge shock. This year really has blown. RIP Big guy.

WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!!??!? SERIOUSLY?!!?!?!?!? First Bam Bam...now, I always guessed that he was perfectly healthy, but one can never know for sure. But now Mike Awesome??! Have we ever heard about any health problems with him? I just hope that tonight's ECW does a proper tribute, but still... It's true what they say, the good really do die young. EDIT: According to the Observer, his death has been ruled a suicide. If this is the case, then it's much worse. He seemed to have so much going for him, but no one may ever know the real story.

I am shocked. I came on to the sight to start a topic about how could it would be if Mike Awesome came to ROH, and I see that he has died. Too many wrestlers are dying too young, guys that I have grown up watching are dying and they only 25 years older than me whe they die.

The way he moved in the ring fit his name very well: AWESOME. I wish he could have got the deserving push in the wwe and maybe things would have been different right now.

That sucks...he never lived up to his potential because of terrible booking. He was an unstoppable killer in ECW but a joke in WCW. I loved his matches...they always kicked ass.

The man was my favourite ever guy to watch in the ring. Period. I've been shaking since I heard this. I must've watched his championship match with Spike Dudley more than any other match.

Let me start by story by telling you all that I was twelve years old in 1999 (19 now).
I was in a seventh grade class that was very markish, all of us. We would have been Cena fans today. In a way, I understand how well WWE marketing works on a kid that age. One day my friend James was talking about ECW, and no one was giving him the time of day. But I really liked the guy, and I gave the show a shot.
The first match I ever saw was Awesome vs. Tanaka. No joking. I don't think I need to tell you that this match was enough to turn me into a fanatic in no time. I started buying every videotape I could get my hands on until I had a nearly-complete knowledge of ECW from 1995-1999.
Mike Awesome was chiefly responsible for turning me into a passionate, informed, LOVER (not blind follower) of professional wrestling. And now I'm waxing crying over the guy, and rightly so.
