WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!!??!? SERIOUSLY?!!?!?!?!? First Bam Bam...now, I always guessed that he was perfectly healthy, but one can never know for sure. But now Mike Awesome??! Have we ever heard about any health problems with him? I just hope that tonight's ECW does a proper tribute, but still... I hate to be cynical (see also: my post about the wellness policy), but I now have this sinking feeling that they're going to do a 10-bell salute tonight and have it crashed as part of the Originals vs. New Breed feud. Hey, if they did what they did to Eddie...

Has Mike Awesome had any serious concussions in his career?
I say this cause a couple of weeks ago I was listening to interview with Chris Nowinski on F4W. Well the discussion was mostly about a study he did and a book he had written (Head Games: Football's Concussion Crisis) on concussions and one the things about is that some athletes that have suffered serious concussions have ended taken their own lives after leaving their sport's profession. One ex NFL player mentioned was Andre Waters.

I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm still shocked. Awesome was genuinely one of my favorite wrestlers. I still love watching any match he put on with Masato Tanaka. Hell, I even loved his WCW work.

And unless I missed it, there wasnt even a mention of Awesome on ECW last night either. That sucks. We get to see that feminine little pixie Lashley's childhood for the 10th time, but no mention of one of the most dominant ECW champions in history dying. Niiiiiiice.

In fairness, there's a lot of bad blood between a lot of the ECW originals and Awesome for the way he went out. I'm not so sure that'd have been a great idea to let Joey Styles (who, if you listen to the commentary on the Mike Awesome-Masato Tanaka match on ONS, actually said it was sad that Awesome didn't take his own life after he tried a suicide dive on Tanaka) talk about it.

Yeah, I posted about Styles suicide comment the day Mike's death made news. That's pretty unsettling now. But, in the continued interest of fairness, read Lance Storm's recent commentary on Awesome....Awesome did what ANYONE else in the world with a family to feed would do: Heyman owed him TONS of money, his contract was up, he didn't get paid ANY of said money, so he went to go work for someone who'd pay him. Complain about that all you like (and trust me, I did my fair share of it back then as a HUGE ECW lover) but you would do the same, so would I, and everyone else here. Plus, he could've just sent the title back and have ECW explain the vacancy (Or thrown it out on Nitro, or "burned it" a la Rhino) but he came back to ECW while UNDER WCW CONTRACT and agreed to lose the title "to anyone you want". And, IMO, Awesome's match at ONS made up for it. He didnt have a contract, no titles on the line, nothing to prove....and he BUSTED HIS ASS in that ring that night, plain and simple. Even if there is bad blood, it wouldn't have killed them to put up a pre-show graphic and just not have anyone on the actual show mention Awesome.

Something bothers me, first, weeks ago, Bam Bam died, now Mike Awesome, and I thought they were only rumors, until the awful truth came(the truth hurts doesn't it), it made me regret not paying attention to this guy a lot(I only saw a few of his matches, and I got his theme song "Awesome Bomb"). It's as if our old favorites just disappeared in an instant. It's making me scared for the rest who aren't active now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqzhlFe1a04RIP Mike Alfonso you truly are Awesome.

And unless I missed it, there wasnt even a mention of Awesome on ECW last night either. They had a "In Memory of..." right at the beginning of the show. I had the tv muted, so I don't know if they actually mentioned his name on air, though.

One ex NFL player mentioned was Andre Waters. I live in Boston, and Ted Johnson ex NE Patriot was on the radio compalining about how he didn't realize when he sighned a contract to play football that it would result in post concussion syndrome. He talked about how still to this day he feels the effects and it's also allegedly caused him to do crazy things like beating his wife, and also attempts at suicide. They guy truly sounded like he wasn't all there with some of the rediculous things he was saying(most notably the previous sentances). But it was a testament to me imo of just how serious head injuries could be.

Dont know about head injuries. I know at one point he was basically wrestling in Japan without an ACL because he refused to take time off for surgery, and that he blew out his knee at One Night Stand, but I cant see leg pain being bad enough to lead to suicide.

Mike Awesome was by far one of my top 3 fav wrestlers. He was great in the ring, had a vast moveset, just really effective and one of a kind.
Anyone remember when on Nitro they had a US Title Tourney, he was to face Lance Storm, Storm asks for O' Canada, Awesome interrupts with "Turn that s*** off" out of nowhere. And then Storm beats him in like 3 minutes. RIP Mike, you were the man, certainly awesome.

I was watching that and their match at New Blood Rising. Literally as soon as I got done watching them I found out about him passing. As if that wasn't ironic enough when I came over to this thread to discuss it, sure enough someone posted a blog about him written by none other than Lance Storm. Of all the wrestlers. The worst part is while watching those matches I was reminising on great Awesome was. And in mere seconds I find out he's gone. It saddens me mostly because two of what I think were the greatest big men(wrestling wise) are both gone in the same month. If every hoss was as good a wrestler as Awesome and Bam Bam were than WWE would be ROH.(Please accept the above statement as a humorous one not a serious opinion) Btw if any one feels like forking over 4 bucks. You can head over to WWE/24/7.com to view the matches I mentioned above.
