I don't think Dibiase ever really worked as a non-wrestling character. I can't put my finger on it, it just didn't work for me, either as the Million Dollar Corporation manager or whatever nonsense he did in WCW.
A clean Jake would have been great, but a clean Jake is not reality, espeically at that time. This was pretty close to the Heroes of Wrestling PPV & Beyond the Mat, wasn't it? The guy looked awful. Putting him on the road, in a high profile angle would have been a bad, bad, idea.

Jake would have been great if he wasn't such a mess. DiBiase and/or Brother Love would have been better choices since they both introduced him to us at Survivor Series 90. Brother Love? Bleh.

Realistically, Dibase.
If we're talking total fantasy...
Eric Bischoff. And if that angle had been done in 2001 or 2002 this could have been possible.

No one should have been the higher power. The whole story was stupid because it underminded Undertaker's character. It made no sense for such an evil powerful character to be subordinate to anyone. i totally agree with you, it was a stupid storyline the only possible "higher power" in WWE was vince, every other choice would have been worse

I never liked the outcome because I was cheering Taker on at that point, and just aligning him with Vince guaranteed that he'd never beat Austin.
Also, Vince being the higher power simply meant that now he had even MORE soldiers to go after Austin with...so, basically the same exact storyline as they'd had all year, just with more bodies getting a Stunner at the end of the night.

I don't mind it being Vince, it just made people hate him 100 times more. The reason most people hated Vince being the higher power wasn't just because it was him...it was because it made no sense from any logical point-of-view. I mean, the Ministry had spent weeks kidnapping Stephanie and screwing with the McMahon family, and we're supposed to believe that Vince allowed and condoned this JUST to get at Austin? That said, I agree with Jake or Dibiase. They both had connections to Austin and Taker, and neither would have been letdowns. I lean toward Dibiase myself. See that's what I loved about Vince being the higher power. It showed how much he hated Austin and that he would go to any lengths to destroy him.

As everyone has said before,Jake Roberts would have been BRILLIANT as the higher power.
Regardless of my opinions of the Attitude Era,this would have been beyond awesome.Too bad he was completely wasted by this point.

Exactly. It became "The Entire WWF vs. Steve Austin". The Corporation teaming with the Ministry meant it was Rock, Undertaker, Shamrock, Bossman, Mideon, Farooq, Bradshaw, Edge, Christian, Gangrel, the McMahons, McMahon's stooges, and whoever the hell else was lying around. It was overkill. Besides, the possibility of a Taker lead, Shane supported Ministry (maybe with someone like Jake as the higher power) fighting Vince's Corporation, with Austin caught in the cross-fire, would've made for MUCH more interesting television.

Okay, since everybody on here was disapointed that it turned out to be Vince McMahon, who should've been the Higher Power instead?

Storywise, if they insisted on someone being the Higher Power, it would have been a good opportunity to introduce a new character who would be the Undertaker's father. Someone MORE evil than him, as a manager/mouthpiece.
