Just got off work...time to hit the next one, kids. #11) Loma Prieta - Last City So this record is probably gonna be the least known of my list around these parts. Or anywhere else, really. Hadn't even heard of this band until I was on a huge screamo kick mid last year...found them through a blog, and goddamn if this album isn't spectacular. It's basically everything I could ever want in a screamo record, with a little Fall of Troy-esque progressiveness just for good measure. Really...it's just such a snorking spectacular and emotional album. I love it. And it is real screamo. It is not the excretory matter that gets branded as screamo these days like Bullet For My Valentine, or Atreyu, or snorking anything. It's nothing like that...so don't go in expecting it if you wanna check 'em out. Just went and checked out their MySpace. Very nice. The first song on their player,"Worn Path",is tremendous. I may have to look into these guys some more.

One of my friends is a big Death Cab fan and he hated this album. I've always been indifferent towards them. I'm not really a fan but they do have some songs I like. I thought about giving this a listen but after hearing his review,I decided against it. After reading yours though,I may give it a shot. It's definitely a love it or hate it kinda album for longtime fans. For me, I loved it. Of course, I'm one of those people that gets bored when bands put out the same album over and over again. I like my bands to evolve. I liekd it, and I agree about bands stagnating.

I like my bands to evolve. I liekd it, and I agree about bands stagnating. Indeed. It's so easy to get bored of bands when they just don't change it up at all. I can think of a million bands who started off strong and just kinda...stayed in the same place. Depressing. Also, glad to hear you're enjoying Loma Prieta, bkwv. They so deserve to be more well-known.

#10) Dir en Grey - UROBOROS This one is definitely greatness. It's not quite as heavy as their last album, but that's not a bad thing. It takes them in a more experimental direction than I think they've ever gone, and it's definitely interesting. Though when I say not as heavy...well, it's still quite heavy. It's just not quite as much of a full-on assault as The Marrow of a Bone was. Seriously though...Kyo's voice is as amazing as it always is, the music is tremendous...everything just works so damn well. Great release.

I've checked out some of these bands you've mentioned (good stuff, by the way). After reading about Jaguar Love, I looked up Blood Brothers because I'd heard someone mention them before... very interesting vocals ;D

Yeah, Blood Brothers had great, and very unique vocals. Amazing stuff. #9) Underoath - Lost in the Sound of Separation This album was pretty much everything I was expecting and more. It took Define the Great Line and turned up the heaviness even more. This album is pretty aggressive from beginning to end...it rarely lets up and I love it for that. Really, they pretty much took their sound in the exact direction it needed to, and the direction I was expecting. It really lived up to everything I'd hoped it would be. The lyrics are top-notch as they usually are, all the instrumentation is tight, and Spencer's vocals are spectacular as they always are. Loved it.

#8) Nine Inch Nails - The Slip Well this album certainly came out of nowhere. Wasn't even expecting it, and then Trent posts it on the NIN website, and says it's on the house. I really love that man. He's what the recording industry really needs, to be honest. And the album...well, it was spectacular. It really was. I didn't feel it was quite as good as Year Zero, but it's definitely high on my list. I was floored by it, especially since it just kinda snuck up on everyone. I know a lot of people don't like him post-With Teeth...but I honestly don't see why. To each, his own I guess. I still think Trent is a genius.

I applaud you for posting this list, even though I disagree with a lot of it. Leathermouth's lyrics are misogynistic tripe and Jaguar Love's music is great but vocals are horrendous (Why, Mr. Whitney, do you keep ruining good music?). Points for a varied selection, though.

Thanks. If everyone liked the same music, it would be boring as f***. Props for not just saying "U AM HAV BAD TAEST". And I quite like Johnny's vocals, but to each his own and all that. Also, LeATHERMOUTH's "misogynist" lyrics are nothing compared to Glassjaw's first album, which I still don't feel is legitimately misogynist in any way.

I suppose I could do a counterpoint, admittedly I like most of your tastes though. Personally I am hoping for Adele, Sleepercar, and TV on the Radio being on there. BUT, I don't expect it, but they are on mine. Out of those, I've honestly only heard TV on the Radio. They're quite good though. I'll have to check the other two out. You have yet to steer me wrong. #15) Scars on Broadway Ahhh this one really surprised me. When I first heard "They Say", I was pretty unimpressed. It's certainly not a bad song, but it was not at all a good representative of SoB's sound. It was very straightforward and I was expecting something different, I suppose. What I got when I heard the full CD was WAY more along the lines of what I was hoping for. Daron and crew totally did not disappoint. This CD is just awesome from beginning to end. Awesome bizarre lyrics, catchy without being too poppy...all in all just very good. And I love Daron's voice, I don't care who thinks it's bad. I'm glad I was proven wrong. Totally 100% agree with you on this one Dude. "They Say" is an alright song at best, to be honest...but songs like "Chemicals", "Stoner-Hate" and my favorite track on the album, "Whoring Streets" do well to make up for the very few sore spots on the album.

Glad to know I'm not the only one not wandering around saying "OMG DEY SHUD JUST PUT SOAD BAK 2GETHAR. DIS IZ LAEM" Seriously, that's all I hear. Scars on Broadway was excellent, and the strong songs on it were VERY strong. And even the weakest songs were at least okay. Serj's solo stuff is also quite good, I thought.

Loved the Scars On Broadway album, better than Serj's I thought.
And I honestly have no idea what your number 1 is gonna be this year....I'll guess at Coldplay but honestly no idea.

I only bought two albums last year -- Weezer's Red Album, and Scarlett's debut.
Yeah.
The Red Album was awesome.
