going back to NIN, Dude, how would you say that the slip was compared to "Year Zero". Because I thought YZ was a really weak release, and given that The Slip came out recently after a lot of his other work, I don't know if I have high hopes.
I only ask because NIN is going to be a sub-headliner at Sasquatch, so if Slip is exactly like YZ in terms of style, I'll go watch another stage.

I only bought two albums last year -- Weezer's Red Album, and Scarlett's debut. Yeah. The Red Album was awesome. Indeed. It was very good times. I love me some Weez.

Year Zero is actually my favourite NIN album, so I'm not sure if you should ask me . I didn't think The Slip was quite as good, but it's high on my list of NIN albums. It's probably in like...3rd or 4th place.

i guess some of my dislike for YZ comes from the fact that from about the time it came out until very recently, my friend would have it on constant loop. There'd be times where I'd have to listen to Survivalism(which wasn't a song I really liked in the first place) multiple times in an hour. It just got really, really grating.

Yeah I can imagine so.
But stylistically The Slip isn't incredibly like YZ, no. So I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Plus...NIN live, man.

on what is supposed to be Trent's last tour I don't think it's last tour period, so much as last tour for some time. He said that he wants to make NIN disappear for awhile. Not forever. At least I hope he means it. #7) Fall Out Boy - Folie à Deux Yeah, yeah. FOB sucks. Pete Wentz is a douche. I've heard it all. I don't really care. Sure, they're incredibly popular right now. So what? They deserve it. They make incredibly catchy, well written pop music and I love it. Everything about this album is great, and it's probably their most varied to date. Experimental isn't really the right word for it...it just encompasses a lot musically, but without sounding disjointed. As usual, it's amazingly catchy, Patrick's voice is astounding, the lyrics are tops...it's just a brilliant little package. Even though it came out late in the year, it's already gotten about 10 plays from me. It's just too damn catchy to not love. I'll never get the hate. I can understand disliking a band because they're not your thing...but some of you people seem to want these guys dead . Really though, I love FOB.

Personally,I'm not a fan of Fall Out Boy but I've never understood why people have such hatred for them. Like I said,I'm not a fan of their music but I don't wish harm or death on them like some people do. To be honest,I'm not sure why I don't like them. Usually,I like that type of music. They've just never appealed to me for some reason.

Time fo mo! #6) Metallica - Death Magnetic What a goddamn album. Really...I just love this album so much. But honestly, I'm one of those rare people who actually thinks that Metallica never started sucking. That's right, I enjoyed St. Anger. Legitimately enjoyed it. But that's beside the point. Death Magnetic was just one gigantic assload of awesome. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. Just...really everything about it is brilliant. It's catchy, it's heavy, it's got great lyrics, the songwriting is excellent, it's just a perfect package. I honestly think this may be my favourite Metallica album. Yeah, I know that's blasphemy to most of you, but I don't care. I really think this is their greatest work. That could always change...but it's how I've felt since it came out. Just...awesome. Kinda wish they'd record a studio version of "Death is Not the End" though. Yeah, the intro of it made it into the album, but that song was great. Still, everything on DM is just stellar. In a worse year for music, it would've been #1.

I definetily agree that Death Magnetic is one of their best albums. I'd rank it right after Lightning and Puppets. I also enjoyed St. Anger and all the Load-era stuff. But they really returned to their roots with this album. I absolutly love it.

Yeah, Death Magnetic was just something else entirely. It was just too damn awesome. #5) Protest the Hero - Fortress I believe this was the first album of 2008 I listened to. It came out early in the year, and just totally blew me away. It took everything about Kezia and made it waaay better. It's a lot more varied than Kezia was, and it's just...it's just really, really awesome. Rody has started screaming now, too, which definitely makes it more interesting. Throw in a little bit of Dream Theater influence and you've got a spectacular album. I highly recommend this to...well, anyone. They're just awesome.

Another one is here, kids! I'm sure you're all so excited. #4) Panic at the Disco - Pretty. Odd. This one was definitely not what I expected it to be. Not a bad thing, just definitely a LOT different from what I had in my head after Fever. It definitely takes a more folky/baroque pop approach than the last record did...and it's amazing. The lyrics, as usual, are just absolutely spectacular. Brendon actually wrote a few on this one, and I think he's pretty talented when it comes to lyrics as well. And on the opposite note, Ryan actually sings on a few songs on this record...and he has an amazing voice. I love it. Really, everything about this record is just so catchy and laid back. It's a really good chill record. Or a "I'm in an awesome mood" record. Or really anything. It's just so damn well written. Even if you hate Panic because of scene kids or whatever, you should check this one out. It's a lot different.

Honestly, I totally haven't heard Ludo's new album. I've been meaning to check it out though. They're pretty good stuff. #3) The Fall of Troy - Phantom on the Horizon FINALLY. The Ghostship demos have been fully realized, and officially released. And holy shit, it's SO AWESOME. I still love the demos...but Phantom is way better. Just...damn this is such an excellent EP. It might be my favourite of their stuff. The production is finally up to the standard of their music. They've always had fairly shoddy production up until now, but this stuff is beautiful and clear, just as their music deserves. It's just so awesome. And it's a concept album/EP, which I'm always a sucker for. I love a great story told through music, I can't help it. This is no different. Just...every single element of this EP has it perfect and right. Not that I'd expect any less from the boys. If you've never heard them, stop doing that and go listen to them. You'll be doing yourself an incredible favour.

That album is... I dunno, it is just amazing. SOme of the songs are border line generic, but they are such good pop songs it doesn't matter, but half the songs are out of the park.
The new Spill Canvas is probably tied with Ludo for my favorite this year. I actually forget they are from this year because I have listened to them so much it seems like they have always been a part of me, kinda strange. Vampire Weekend is close to that too.
