Yeah, that was inevitable. The idea of having to maintain a constant internet connection or else lose your ability to save is mind-boggling. Who's the moron at Ubisoft who proposed that idea in the first place?

also steam is having a indie games package deal now, where you can get space giraffe, gridrunner revolution (so double the jeff minter madness!), altitude, bullet candy, bob came in pieces, galcon fusion, and super laser racer for just 10 bucks.
you could also buy each individually for 2 bucks. I say the things worth it for just altitude and space giraffe. And if you're wondering what space giraffe is, here's one of the later levels:

I finished Arkham Asylum a couple of days ago. It's awesome. Gameplay works perfectly both in stealth and melee combat. Storyline and athmosphere both suck you in and you're the freaking Batman!
I give it 94 Batclaws out of 100

I just bought that Indie pack you mentioned Thwak, gonna try it out later. Altitude definitely looks like the best of the bunch. An online multiplayer air shooter? I'm there ;D
And yeah Bam, it really is an awesome game. Finished it up the other day and I still think about how terrific the story was. Very deep and captivating. The sequences involving the Scarecrow were legitimately creepy and possibly my favorite part of the game.

Toki Tori on Steam for $2.45? Sure, why not. I think it's getting to the point where, if I can get a decent looking game for $2.50 or less, I'm gonna buy it no matter what. Seems like a pretty fun game, too. Part platformer, part puzzle game with a very colorful, cartoon-ish art style.

Amazon has Mass Effect 2 for $30 w/ free shipping. Waited more than a month, but I finally have a good reason to jump on this one.

I'm just here to say that Starcraft 2 is the greatest RTS I've ever played in my life.
If you bought the first one, you might as well be prepared to by this one as well 3 seconds after it comes out.
That, and the new battle.net stuff is pretty wild. Has all the bells and whistles including voice chat. And it's REALLY easy to get rid of the "bnet tards".
The matchmaking system seems pretty robust. I only play other really terrible players when I look for a random game.

Well, I tried a couple more free-to-play games, "CrimeCraft" and "AVA" (that's "Alliance of Valiant Arms", I think). CrimeCraft is so buggy and the build must have never been optimized, it runs like crap on my system mostly due to the music. Yes... the music, which you can not turn off (only mute, and it still loads when muted, you just can't hear it) lags the game. Uninstalling it as we speak, even though a patch is coming in a few days that is supposed to fix some issues. Just not worth it, IMO. Still, if you're looking for a crime-themed MMOFPS I'd suggest giving it a shot, their free-play accounts are getting boosted on March 9th to be able to do more.
AVA is good if you want a free MMOFPS. Not a heck of a lot I can say about it, really.
Also looking to try out Global Agenda, but from what I've heard it's not getting a retail release. I do not buy online if I can help it.
Edit: And now I learn that Global Agenda is pretty much going to require Steam. f*** that, and f*** Steam.

Mass Effect 2 runs surprisingly well on my PC with max settings at 1600x900. I was thinking it was going to be more demanding than the original, but it's about the same, while looking a bit better as well. Fun game so far, only played for a half hour or so. Combat seems to be much easier than before.
BTW, I ended up canceling my Amazon.com order when they said it wouldn't ship out until this Monday, and wouldn't arrive until March 22nd at the earliest. So I bought a brand new, sealed retail copy off eBay for only $23 shipped. Got here this afternoon. Also ordered a copy of Dragon Age brand new for $17. eBay is going to be my go-to place for PC games now.

So Mass Effect 2 was pretty damn awesome. Completely hooked me for the last few days to the point where it only took me a weekend to beat it. 25 hours in all (yeah, I had some extended periods of playing ;D). My ending: {Spoiler}Everyone survived, destroyed the Collector base. Scanning was a total pain in the ass, but after a while I decided to only scan planets that were either rich in resources or had an anomaly. If you take the time to scan every planet until it's depleted, you'll end up with far more resources than you'll ever need. In all, the game seems to be more of a shooter than an RPG (I felt the original was more RPG than shooter), but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. Great game in virtually every aspect. Gotta play through again as a Renegade now.

Since the NDA has been long since dropped, anybody want to Ask a Starcraft II Beta Tester anything?
Yes, I need more Vespine Gas and I must construct additional Pylons.

Got "Sins of a Solar Empire" today when the gf got angry that she and her roommate couldn't beat me in Total Annihilation, even when teaming up So now we're gonna be playing that, so far it's a pretty cool RTS, more depth to it than I had originally thought. It reminds me of Pax Imperia a bit.

so apparently C&C 4 is kind of disappointing.
Also people are saying it has the same thing as ubisoft's drm... it doesn't. Yes you need to be connected to the internet to play it, but that's because you are constantly earning exp to unlock units. You're EXP is then saved on a server, so if you don't have an internet connection you can't use any of the units you unlocked, or earn more exp.
it's kind of poorly thought out, but that really isn't drm per se.

Well according to this article, you need to have an internet connection to play at all: In a review of Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, Eurogamer highlighted some of the game's issues -- most of which should sound familiar if you read anything about the Ubisoft debacle. The site says that C&C4 is constantly monitor and uploading your experience-point count, and thus the game is always online. If your connection drops for any reason, you will be kicked from the game -- even in single player -- and the game won't attempt to reconnect, so your session is totally lost. Though perhaps that's incorrect and you can actually play single player without earning EXP. I won't buy the game anyways, but I still hate seeing stuff like this implemented into PC games out of fear that it'll spread even further.
