I came here to say GTA4. It got a score of 10 on IGN. It couldn't be anything but overrated just based on that. No game is perfect, and that definately wasn't. I honestly never saw a rating of a 10/10 as being "perfect", as, as you pointed out, no game is perfect. I see a 10/10 as basically the reviewer saying, "If you have the system that could play this game(or one of the systems in the case of a multiplatform game), you need to play this game no matter what!". In other words, a 10/10 in my eyes means you should pay full price on launch day, and if the review came out enough days before release that you could still reserve it, you should reserve it.

Mortal Kombat 2.
I'm probably gonna get nuclear heatz for this, but UMK3 is INFINITELY better than MK2. Seriously. For me, UMK3 was a HUUUGE step up. Sure, it forgot Johnny Cage and Raiden, but honestly, they we're gonna be in every MK game from then on anyway.
All of the people who say the MK2 was the greatest thing since sliced bread complain about how 'unbalanced' and 'no fun' UMK3 was.
"Oooh mk3 is sooo cheep why does it have a run button that makes it unfair theres too many combos oooh"
Hey. Maybe if you put forth some actual f***ing effort to try and learn the combos, then you might enjoy it! They're not that hard to do either. OH. AND MAYBE THERE'S A RUN BUTTON BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE MIGHT NOT LIKE WALKING A f***ING MILE JUST TO GET TO YOUR OPPONENT. MK2 WAS AN UNPACED BORING PIECE OF KRAP.
UMK3 had a great fast pace, added more characters, and added a freaking COMBO system just like every other normal fighting game!
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT A COMBO SYSTEM IN A FIGHTING GAAAAAAME?!

Anywho, God of War and Mortal Kombat were, to me, not that special beyond the shock-value. In fact I always thought Mortal Kombat was f***ing terrible.

Sonic CD
I personally thought the game had confusing level design, disappointing boss fights, an even more disappointing final boss, a busted spin dash, frustrating special stages, and I don't care much for the supposedly "superior" Japenese soundtrack(barring a few exceptions).
It's one saving grace was that it introduced Metal Sonic(even though I'd rather have the one from Sonic 3&K).

The Saints Row series. Could not get into it for some reason. GTA remains my preference in this genre.

Skate. It basically killed the Tony Hawk series (well, along with the braintrust at Activision). But from my experience it's way too complicated and frustrating. I've never seen any negative reviews online, which boggles my mind since everyone I know who's played it questioned my sanity for even buying it.

Gears Of War. I hated the thing. It lost me the moment I started it because I hated the character designs. I tried to play it anyways and give it a shot but I just didn't like it at all.

Then you have a lot of fun just tricking off of everything in the city. I could ride around forever in Skate 2 just tricking off of sidewalks and rails.

Every Super Mario Brothers game ever. Some are good and fun, but the amount of hype they always get just annoys the heck out of me.

Half Life 2:
I'm not saying Half Life 2 is a bad game and it's still a very very very good game but if it didn't have a great story, best ensemble of characters, great soundtrack, and a gravity gun that is really only useful in a very few moments of the game, it would have a score of 86-90 on metacritic rather then the whole greatest game ever made debate. The gameplay is great but really not that special and sometimes the pacing is really off. Plus there is lots of unnecessary useless platforming puzzles or putting objects on the pulley system for the sake of prolonging the single player campaign.

I will say this, despite Half-Life 2 being a great game overall, there are parts of the game that just felt like Valve shouting, "Hey, look what the Source Engine can do!"

Portal. Portal Portal Portal. That game is so f***ing overrated it hurts. Yeah, I liked it when I first played it. No, I didn't think it was the absolute funniest thing I've ever played, nor did I think it was a stroke of genius. I had fun, I'm not disputing that, but the f***ing cult following it built is absolutely ridiculous. The cake is a lie was NEVER funny. NEVER. EVER. EVERRRRRRR.

EVERY POPULAR GAME EVER.

Ocarina of Time. It is not the end all be all of games that lots of people think it is. Hell it isn't even the end all be all Zelda game, either. Twilight Princess is just as good as it(hell, for the most part it might as well BE OoT, they certainly make you thread through nearly all the same damn areas....), Wind Waker is almost as good as it, and honestly, I think A Link to the Past is better than it. So if a game, in my opinion of course, isn't even the best in its own series, how could it be the best of all time? To be frank, I honestly think the whole, "best game ever made" debate is an ever evolving one. I mean case in point, for years Silent Hill 2 was my favorite game of all time, and now it has, after a couple of years of replaying and thinking it over, been kicked out of my personal #1 spot by Uncharted 2. And this is just taking my own personal tastes into consideration, let's not forget that there seem to be at least two ways people do the whole "best" thing. They either make their list based on which games they simply think were the best, or they make their list based on which games they think were the most influential. Well, I don't consider Ocarina the best game of all time, but it is the best game in its series. Twilight Princess was a lazy effort from Nintendo that lacked any kind of creative spark. Wind Waker was a good game nearly ruined by one of the most tedious fetch quests ever designed. Both games also suffer from being insultingly easy. The only two games that challenge OoT as the best in the series are A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask. LttP was the first great Zelda game, and established the formula that the rest of the series would follow. But I would still argue that OoT was better. The dungeon designs were more creative and interesting, the music was catchier and more memorable, and the shift to 3d added a sense of scope that wasn't present before. Majora's Mask was nearly as good. In many ways MM was the most interesting Zelda game and it certainly took the most risks, but I think it suffers from being too complex for its own good. Anyway, to get back to the topic at hand, here are my picks for the three most overrated games ever: Star Fox: I really hate this game. It's slow and clunky to the point of being unplayable, and the primitive 3d graphics, which were once its main selling point, have aged so poorly that it's now difficult to look at. It is, in my opinion, the ugliest game on the SNES. Its only redeemable quality is its awesome soundtrack. Sonic CD: The definition of mediocrity. Lazy uninspired level design, s***ty music, terrible boss fights, and a pointless time travel gimmick all conspire to make this the worst of the oldschool Sonic platformers. How anyone can consider this the best game in the series is far beyond my understanding. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: A decent game that was overhyped to the point of absurdity. The presentation was good, and the platforming and puzzle solving elements were excellent, but the combat system was horribly tedious. When 40% of a game just isn't fun to play, it's hard to understand how it can be considered GotY material, much less one of the best games of all time.

The Call of Duty (and other associated FPS's): To me, they're just ultra-generic and boring. It's the same game being effectively released for the past decade and I cannot see the replay value in them. I don't get the love for 'em.

Sonic 3 - Without Sonic & Knuckles, it's the worst Sonic game of the 16 bit series. With Sonic & Knuckles, it's the fourth best after 1, 2 and CD. Outside Hydrocity and Ice Cap Zone, the music sucks. The attempts at realistic graphics in zones like Angel Island just leave it without any of the charm of the more surreal previous games. It was released when it was unfinished, and it shows.
Super Mario 64 - Worst highly regarded game I've ever played. Dull, dull, dull. Like if Sonic Adventure 1 had the adventure fields for a whole game.
Smash Bros. Melee - Worst of the series, but seems to get talked up as the best. The original is endlessly more replayable, and Brawl has more variety and fun. People seem to love it mostly because it has glitches that can be exploited for tourney play, which to me is a disadvantage.

GTA4. Tried playing through that twice, couldn't finish it. I miss when the series was fun. I hear that. When you make a game about hijacking cars for transportation and you can't hardly drive them, that's kinda messed up. Even my friend, who's a far better gamer than I, resorted to taking cabs everywhere when he could.

God of War series. Nothing but a mindless button masher and its popularity only came from the gruesome kills.
