Yeah, I definitely understand what you mean. There were a lot of really obnoxious FFVII fanboys back in the day. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm a hopeless Final Fantasy fanboy anyway...but I can understand why one wouldn't like VII, or any of the games really. There's a lot more of us sane ones than you think. Oh, I know...it's just the loudest ones lol Honestly, there are so many amazing games out there... declaring ONE as your favorite ever, and the end all, be all of gaming is kinda crazy to me. Like...I love Zelda... and OOT IS probably my fav in the series, but fanboys for that will crap on every Zelda, and right away just say "It won't be as good as OOT" before ever playing it. Yeah, that's a depressing way to look at a series or gaming in general really. Every post-OOT Zelda has been goddamned outstanding. Particularly the console entries. Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess were all fantastic. Anyway, point is...people shouldn't always just compare one entry in a series to the rest of them, and declare them as awful if they're not that game.

Virtua Racing - OK, it gets respect for breaking ground on the graphics but you could run through the game in an hour. You could, if the handling of the cars wasn't so twitchy to make it near unplayable. I remember it being such a big deal back in the day, but the game was atrocious.

the Call of Duty and Halo series as a whole. I don't understand the appeal in online FPS games at all. Run, shoot, hide, shoot, die, respawn, shoot, repeat.

Mortal Kombat 2. I'm probably gonna get nuclear heatz for this, but UMK3 is INFINITELY better than MK2. Seriously. For me, UMK3 was a HUUUGE step up. Sure, it forgot Johnny Cage and Raiden, but honestly, they we're gonna be in every MK game from then on anyway. All of the people who say the MK2 was the greatest thing since sliced bread complain about how 'unbalanced' and 'no fun' UMK3 was. "Oooh mk3 is sooo cheep why does it have a run button that makes it unfair theres too many combos oooh" Hey. Maybe if you put forth some actual f***ing effort to try and learn the combos, then you might enjoy it! They're not that hard to do either. OH. AND MAYBE THERE'S A RUN BUTTON BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE MIGHT NOT LIKE WALKING A f***ING MILE JUST TO GET TO YOUR OPPONENT. MK2 WAS AN UNPACED BORING PIECE OF KRAP.UMK3 had a great fast pace, added more characters, and added a freaking COMBO system just like every other normal fighting game! WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT A COMBO SYSTEM IN A FIGHTING GAAAAAAME?!You've got some fair points, as a lot of MK2's charm is from nostalgia than actual play, but the issues with UMK3 when it comes to the combos and the run button go a little further. With the Run Button, it just seems unnecessary when you have a D-Pad or Arcade stick for movement in general- couldn't they have made double-tapping a direction a dash or a run? As such, it's pretty awkward in practice in comparison to other fighters. While the combos are rigidly set-in- hence why they're known as 'dial-a-kombo's- in that you could just dial them in to get out of a pinch rather than develop on the tools you're given to make your own combos. The new MK rectifies this by offering a few set combos you can cancel special moves into or build up upon. Otherwise I think a lot of the other complaints with UMK3 tend to be cosmetic- like the fatalities and animalities, which were kinda goofy in comparison to the more brutal edge of MK2's fatalities (e.g. Jade's 'stab and shake', Kabal's 'inflate-your-head', etc), or the newer character designs not being on par with previous ones. Still, doesn't stop UMK3 being playable- being quicker than MK2 definitely helps- and the MK series would get worse than either MK2 or UMK3 with the likes of MK4 and MK Trilogy in my opinion. As for overrated games; I never really got the appeal Street Fighter Alpha 2 had over Alpha 3 for purists. I preferred Alpha 3's cast of characters and moodier presentation, and have heard just as much complaints against A2's Custom Combos being more unbalanced than A3's as complaints against A3's sins following A2. Count me in on preferring Sonic 2 over 3&K too. Both are fun, but stages like Sandopolis Zone and the wait-for-me-to-kill-myself bosses in 3&K are a drag in comparison to 2.

Halo and Call Of Duty series Defiantly. I do enjoy both to a certain extent but the online is horrible with all the campers and stupid Perks like MLC. Oh god that was terrible. Though black ops did balance it out a bit so that's a step in the right direction. And Halo Reach is is like the only GREAT Halo game next to Halo: CE. I just don't understand the love the series as a whole. I mean I guess its the story? Idk

I'm not much for multiplayer-focused FPS, because a: I suck, and b: I don't find them fun for more than 20 minutes. But the story in the Halo games is pretty compelling. It's not ultra-original, but it's well-paced and just generally cool. That's why I like the Halo games. I couldn't really give less of a shit about multiplayer.

Halo 1 & 2. They're certainly good games and featured great AI and innovative concepts, but ugh, their level design is among the worst of all the first person shooters I've ever played.
I like Super Mario Bros. 3 a lot, but I don't get as excited over it as others. Maybe I've just played it one too many times.
Back in the day, Pokemon Pinball got a ton of hype. I thought it was way, way too easy and simplistic.

Honestly, I like Alpha 2's custom combos just because they are broken as hell lol. My main gripe w/ A3 is the ONE shot at Bison thing... you lose, it's game over, no continues, bad ending for you. As far as the MK3 combo system... that game has a huge learning curve. First fight or two, not bad... then suddenly the computer charges in and lights your ass up w/ the dial a combos.

All the old 2D Mortal Kombat games feature ultra-cheap AI. My problem wasn't so much that the computer could always pull off the best dial-a-combos, but rather, that it would throw me while I was tripping its character. Another thing that drove me nuts about the AI is how much quicker it could pull off the ducking uppercut than I could. The 2D MK games are a lot of fun.... IF you play against another human. Playing against the AI is just asking for a frustrating time.

Most games from the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast as a whole is the epitome of overrated, for me. I know people who will fight you to the death if you say it wasn't one of the best consoles ever. It had like 3 games!

It had like 3 games! It has the whole cult/underdog vibe going for it. Fanboys love being a vocal, if slightly obnoxious minority. I, on the other hand, love it cause it's the one stop shop for 2D fighters and without the lag the plagues its few PS2 equivalents.
