Since we have a thread on underrated video games, we might as well do the opposite.
What are some games you think are overrated?

Have to agree with this. I love the FF series and FF7 is a great game but its not some epic masterpiece that others make it out to be. Personally, I found FFX to be much better. Another overrated game IMO is Gears of War.

I think Halo 3 is VERY overrated, but I don't agree with Halo or Halo 2 (or even Halo Reach). Can't comment on GTA has the only 2 I really played were Vice City (which was awesome) and San Andreas (which sucked).

For Halo it really depends on which game you're talking about. In the original Halo, it was really brought FPS back to the mainstream and made the X-Box a hit. Having played it a month or to ago, it still holds up really well, graphics aside. Halo 2 took everything Halo did and did it bigger and better and it brought online gaming to the forefront of gaming. Halo 3.....well, it wasn't bad but it was just another game compared to the other two.

How do you define overrated?
FF7, for example, pretty much sold the Playstation for Sony. I don't think there's any overrating that.

GTA4. Tried playing through that twice, couldn't finish it. I miss when the series was fun.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
I played the free weekend on Steam and all it did was frustrate me after a while. There were a lot of broken perks and killstreaks.

Honestly the Zelda series. Sure, the games are almost unquestionably good, some even great, but to say that they are always perfect or the greatest franchise in the entire video gaming world is way too much of a stretch. At least in my opinion.

But FF7 still gets remakes, the whole overracting fandom, movies, for being a Good game.(In my opnion of course) thats what makes overrated.Saying "Its not overrated because it sold alot" doesnt make much sense

FF7 The Modern Warfare series The Gears of War series
Those are my main gripes, and I'm not sure about this last one:
BlazBlue (I HAAAAATE THIS GAME. I haven't heard anyone say a single bad thing about it, and they also say the story is good, but it f***ing isn't.)

Yeah, some people are going to like other games more, just like others are going to like FF7 more (personally Tactics and FF12 are my faves). But...it still was *the* killer app for the Playstation, and a game that brought console rpgs out of their niche market and into the mainstream. Calling it overrated kinda brushes away what a huge deal it was.

I played God of War 1 and was almost bored to tears after just the first couple of parts. I have ZERO desire whatsoever to play 2 or 3.
This might seem like a shock coming from the man who started the Brawl threads leading up to the launch, but the original Super Smash Bros. is an unbalanced, ugly, horrible music playing, over in the blink of an eye (and not even that good with 4 players) pile of trash. They actually showed some effort in Melee, and that supremely kicked ass. IMO, anyone who honestly thinks the original is better than Melee and/or Brawl has either a supreme lack of experience playing good games or are so drunk on nostalgia they aren't safe to put behind the wheel.
I know Ristar gets a lot of love as a cult classic, but that game is awful IMO.
Mortal Kombat II is easily the worst main entry in the series. Yes...4, Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon were all WAY better than II.
River City Ransom is okay, but I'd take Streets of Rage 1-3 or Final Fight (the original is the only one i've played) with no hesitation.
I understand why people like Zelda; Link to the Past, but I enjoyed all the other games way more. I won't chalk that up to being overrated as much as personal preference...though it does piss me off when people discount the newer Zelda's and say there hasn't been a good Zelda since LttP, that's some class-5 bullshit IMO. I'd rather play Zelda II than LttP (though that's because I LOVE Zelda II). The best 2D Zelda's to me were the "Oracle" games. THOSE were friggin awesome. Minish Cap was also very very good.

Ocarina of Time. It is not the end all be all of games that lots of people think it is. Hell it isn't even the end all be all Zelda game, either. Twilight Princess is just as good as it(hell, for the most part it might as well BE OoT, they certainly make you thread through nearly all the same damn areas....), Wind Waker is almost as good as it, and honestly, I think A Link to the Past is better than it. So if a game, in my opinion of course, isn't even the best in its own series, how could it be the best of all time?
To be frank, I honestly think the whole, "best game ever made" debate is an ever evolving one. I mean case in point, for years Silent Hill 2 was my favorite game of all time, and now it has, after a couple of years of replaying and thinking it over, been kicked out of my personal #1 spot by Uncharted 2. And this is just taking my own personal tastes into consideration, let's not forget that there seem to be at least two ways people do the whole "best" thing. They either make their list based on which games they simply think were the best, or they make their list based on which games they think were the most influential.

I came here to say GTA4. It got a score of 10 on IGN. It couldn't be anything but overrated just based on that. No game is perfect, and that definately wasn't.
