I would imagine this is more about money than anything else. Punk doesn't seem like such a big mark for himself that he really cares about whether he wins or loses matches. He's been in a lot of high profile feuds and gets more time on the mic than just about anyone in the company.
I always think back to that interview on his website when he first signed with the WWE and someone asked what he'd do if he got "misused like Shannon Moore" and he said he'd go and buy a big house and fancy car like Shannon Moore did.
NOT that I think Punk is driven by only money, but if I had to take an educated guess, I'd imagine he thinks he should be paid more than he is, rather than thinking he should have a higher spot on the card.

I wouldnt blame him for wanting to get out. He has worked his ass off for them, and guys like Miz, Del Rio, Sheamus, Wade Barrett etc have unfairly leapfrogged him due to company preferences.

Thats the sad truth.. And the bottom line is.. Punk is far greater and more talented then EVERYONE OF THOSE GUYS!!! Yet hes taken a backseat to guys he otherwise should be more of a focal point then. Its too bad Heyman wasn't around. He would know what to do with a character like Punk's. To this day, I still believe the WWE has no clue what to do with Punk. Yet he makes all the crap thrown his way WORK because he is that good. Buts that typical in business.. its not the first time its happened. The more talented guys getting the shaft, while the guys with less talent get all the emphasis because of politics, or because they are "company guys" etc. It happens in all business

But Sheamus I could care less about, unless he has a smaller guy who can bummp around for him and sell his offense he is hardly worth watching. His matches with Orton and Cena were boring as hell.

I think this has jack squat to do with booking. He's a heel in the current WWE. Heels lose. Even when they should win. And then they lose again.
As for gimmick, what exactly is his gimmick, both sides of the straight edge "gimmick" have been explored. No point in going back to that? He's a guy that works the mic well, he doesn't have to be pigeonholed into a "gimmick".
If there's a dispute here that is real and not newz, it's 99.9% about money. If your top guys are clearing in the 7 figures easy and have all kinds of various perks, and the people just below them in the card are making mid 6 figures or less, that is a reciepe for annoyed employees.

Del Rio got pushed to the moon, complete with WrestleMania title match and rematch. Sheamus won the Dubya Dubya Ay Toytle twice in very qucik time. Barrett became public enemy #1 on Raw within months of showing up on TV. Theyve been giving a lot to newer guys, and while Punk was given an excelletn build from debut, he was a joke during his first reign as WHC, and in the 2009 summer of Punk, his title reigns were great until Taker decided it was his turn.

And where are the 3 now? If Del Rio goes to Raw without a belt, he can forget about it. Barrett is a JTTS and Sheamus isn't much better. All these guys know what the deal is. This is forgiveable because the business is not a shoot. What's not is when you're making $400K and paying for your expenses, and say, someone like Orton is making a bajillion dollars and rolling around in a tax write-off bus. I'm telling you, I have a feeling the guy gets paid like crap considering his position on the card. And that's what matters. If I was a worker, I'd rather make $1M+ to be a JTTS than $400K to be a star.

Wait, if Punk leaves, doesn't that mean he loses the rights to the CM Punk name? I'm guessing it's a situation similar to that of Bam Bam Bigelow, where he gave WWE the rights to the name for the duration of his contract, and gets it back afterwards. I don't think WWE does that sort of thing anymore. I'm pretty sure Punk just signed over the rights to his name, with the intention of sticking with WWE for the rest of his career. If Punk was able to get a deal like that, I would imagine that more wrestlers would enter WWE and just keep their previous names. I could see someone like Sting getting a deal like that, but I doubt WWE would have accepted those terms with Punk when he signed since he wasn't a big name yet. Back on topic though, I don't think Punk is going anywhere. I kind of don't think Rey will go anywhere either, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire soon. IIRC, he has said that he doesn't play to retire for a while, but Edge said the same thing not long ago and you see how that turned out.

I could see Punk wanting some time off, I mean even when he was injured, he was still on TV and some house shows. It's been 4 years on the main roster and Lord knows how many years prior to that on the indies, non stop.

Give him the time off and then when he comes back send him to FCW for a bit and have him work with those clones over at there. I don't get why they can't send Kane and Big show down to Florida instead of making them tag champs. These fellows have been in wwe forever and know a thing or two.
Also Rey had a good run, have him put over Sin Cara and go relax.

Maybe he secretly desires to feud with Austin. (God, I hope the WWE will work on something like that in the future. Too good to miss that opportunity.)

I'd be hard pressed to believe either man leaves....honestly WWE should start throwing cash to keep both.
I mean so many guys are done or will be done that the WWE needs to keep as many guys as possible.
And I might see Rey calling it quits lord knows he's seen his fair share of injuries but he's still got a lot of good years in him....Punk on the other hand has no where to go but up, he's still young enough and relatively injury free, personally I can't see him walking away to still wrestle for othe companies for smaller paychecks, and I can't see WWE letting him slip away when he's such a rising star (especially with so many established stars on the downslope).
I'd say Rey is possible but not likely and Punk is getting a big bump in pay.

When you're getting cheered on par with Randy Orton in a match with him, despite being a despicable heel, you deserve to be a TOP guy. I don't blame him for not thinking he's pushed enough if thats the case, all he does is put people over. If he was ever made to look credible, he'd be more over than anyone they've got. He held the World title, but that world title was the same one that Jack Swagger held last year, so it doesn't really mean s***, especially because Undertaker comes back and wins it whenever he feels like being an active wrestler for a couple of months.
I'm usually not one to bitch about pushes and whatnot, but CM Punk is one of the main reasons I watch WWE, and has been the most consistently entertaining person in the company for about 2 years. If he leaves because he's not getting his due, money-wise and his position in the company, that's really gonna piss me off and a lot of other fans as well.

Sheamus and Wade Barrett are currently being treated as utter afterthoughts while Punk is getting multiple segments and main-eventing RAW on a pretty consistent basis. I don't see how he's getting the shit end of the stick.

I don't see Punk going anywhere honestly. Although, sometimes I wonder if he appreciates the way his character and style has been watered down and buried. Now Rey on the other hand could retire and I wouldn't miss him. His Superman like booking, his politics, and the fact that a feud with him is like feuding with Hunter.
