Buried in a speculative Draft article on Wrestlezone.com is this little gem (IWC, you may need to sit down before reading this ): 2. Rey Mysterio, Jr. - his contract will be expiring this year so that is playing a major factor in what WWE wants to do with him in the draft. Sources are telling me that chances of Rey re-signing with the company are 50/50 right now.
3. CM Punk - like Mysterio, Punk's contract is coming up this year and at this point, it hasn't been confirmed that he'll remain with the company once it expires. That's definitely something WWE has to consider with this year's draft and whether or not they want to invest a lot of energy into him making a move to Smackdown. Kidding aside, I'd be shocked if either ends up leaving the company, but its never to early to start panicking about your main eventers.

I thought Rey signed a 5 year deal a summer or two ago, when he proceeded to squash Ziggler due to his contract saying he had to have a title run of a certain amount of time per year?
Or was that newz?
It's hard to keep track!

It would certainly be interesting. They both have a lot of money now, and could go where ever. I'd expect Mysterio to go to AAA and Punk back to the indies, more specifically ROH. If I were WWE, I'd want to keep them both, but if not, get them into one last feud with somebody to get a new potential main event guy over.

Wait, if Punk leaves, doesn't that mean he loses the rights to the CM Punk name?

Wasn't WWE supposed to give Mysterio a movie as part of his deal? Isn't that what eventually won him over from AAA?

Mysterio I could see leaving, but Punk I really doubt. He's too big to really go anywhere but TNA, which he doesn't have a very high opinion of, and his skills are so diverse that he could probably be in WWE for life if desired.

wouldn't punk lose an insane amount of money by leaving wwe and going back to the indies? he'd probably be an anderson-type in TNA, stupid booking aside. Or, to japan for a time before coming back to WWE at a later point.

I honestly don't see Punk NOT being re-signed. He's too valuable as a go-to heel, and despite the fact he has been repeatedly destroyed in feuds, he's still portrayed as a threat so I can't see Punk being unhappy with how he's being used.
I think it's just a matter where neither party NEEDS to worry about re-negotiating right now, so they're not really thinking about it too hard.

I'm sure Rey has enough money to build a house made out of gold, but I'm not sure why one would think Punk is *that* rich. And he's still relatively young.

Wait, if Punk leaves, doesn't that mean he loses the rights to the CM Punk name? That's DS Funk!!! But what's he doing in the Impact Zone?!?!?! (DS = Diet Soda)

Punk leaving in the near future would be a surprise... but at the same time, if he's been smart with his money, he could've made enough by now that he could afford to step back from WWE's schedule and pursue other interests.
If he leaves on his own terms while still relatively young and injury-free, good for him.

Wait, if Punk leaves, doesn't that mean he loses the rights to the CM Punk name? I'm guessing it's a situation similar to that of Bam Bam Bigelow, where he gave WWE the rights to the name for the duration of his contract, and gets it back afterwards.

Gotta admit, I'd probably miss Rey if he goes. But he's done pretty much everything at this point, made a shitload of money, and with the injuries piling up maybe it is time for the guy to bow out. Whatever you think of him personally, he deserves a big farewell.
I can't see Punk going anywhere just yet. He's the best heel they've got and he guy still has way too much to offer as a long-term guy to leave right now.

Wait, if Punk leaves, doesn't that mean he loses the rights to the CM Punk name? Since he's been CM Punk pretty much everywhere he's gone, I can only assume he's already copyrighted the name.

They have to re-sign Punk. They should try to re-sign Rey. I think they could lax his schedule a bit or simply set aside some time for him to take an extended break.
