I'm in Wilmington, so only two lines go over me. Outerbanks are going to get crushed tho', One of my sisters live there. Hopefully she, along with everybody, stays safe. I'm a hour west of Albany NY, so I don't think I have to worry about much.

It's supposed to go right over New Jersey. I just hope that it moves in a different angle, or decreases in intensity.
I'll probably be a Cat. 1 by the time it hit's Jersey's coast, so it won't be that bad.
Going to keep track off it all night to see where it's going.

Man, if I'd stayed in White Plains for one more week I could've experienced my first Hurricane, too.
How's the forecast looking for you Westchester folk?

Irene could hit catagory 4 soon, favorable conditions for further development.
The eyewall is of course the area of the most intense winds, the western side of a hurricane is the wettest and the eastern side (northeastern usually) is the windiest.
As of now the coastline from Chesapeake Bay to NYC seems pegged for a good solid foot of rain. NYC should see minimal hurricane winds 75-80 MPH but a brutal storm surge should spread well into Cape Cod. Hurricane Donna had Battery Wharf/Park under 10 feet of water and she missed NYC, and with the recent rains in NY/NJ the ground can only take so much before trees start coming up and taking power lines down with them. Thats probably the biggest mess for the NY/NJ area with of course so bad flooding in flood prone areas.

I live in Brooklyn and I drive the subways for a living. I really really don't want to have to actually work in this. There's some talk of actually shutting down the subway for the storm, but under normal circumstances with things like this they usually mandate us to report to work, so I have no idea what to do. This isn't like a snow storm or anything where getting to work is inconvenient, in this situation it seems genuinely dangerous.

The NY subway system has series and series of bilge pumps working 24/7 otherwise the tunnels would always be under water. They'll have a tough time keeping up with this and with the billions of dollars of equipment and electronics underground they'll need to shut down and go on the defense

I love being in Georgia. Good weather, and we always avoid the hurricanes because of our geography. They either hit Florida or turn off to hit the Carolinas instead.

I'm less than two miles inside the safe zone for evacuation in South Jersey. Cities around me are being evacuated as I speak. I heard on the news today someone say that, should you be in the evacuation area and choose not to leave, you should fill out an index card with your name, address, and social security number, fold it and put it in your shoe, to pass onto your next of kin to identify you when you are discovered. It sounds like something out of a horror movie. I hope he was saying that to motivate people to evacuate solely as a safety precaution, but I’m not sure that that is entirely it.

I'm about 20 or so minutes from the Westchester area, and it's a wind and rain forecast. I will say that is oddly quiet and peaceful outside. A lot of my friends live in the NYC/LI area and I'm a little worried for them. I hope all of you on the coast stay safe.

So they confirmed that the MTA is shutting down service by tomorrow afternoon. I live in Brooklyn, on the border of Zone A and Zone B, which means nothing since this will be Cat 1 by the time it hits us. PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR DAMNED MINDS! It's going to be for just one day, so, getting stuff so you don't need to run out for incidentals in the middle of a storm is what we need to be preparing for. I saw someone running out of a store with 5 cases of bottled water and getting into an SUV.

Here in DC, I still don't know what the hell we're suppose to get. The local weather guys say anything between a half inch to 2-3 inches of rain, so obviously the range is big. We could get nothing, or get soaked.

Pray for the ponies in Chincoteague and Assateague islands, they're supposed to get a direct hit.
