PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR DAMNED MINDS! It's going to be for just one day, so, getting stuff so you don't need to run out for incidentals in the middle of a storm is what we need to be preparing for. I saw someone running out of a store with 5 cases of bottled water and getting into an SUV. I work in a grocery store. I'm on vacation this week, but the majority of my co-workers I've got friended on Faecbook have been saying that people are just out of control, buying everything in sight. I believe it. I ran to the store this morning to get a dozen of eggs and the egg racks were so dug through, it looked like it hadn't been loaded in weeks.

It appears that it's really closing in hard now, from what they're showing on the CBS Special Report right now.

The outer rain bands are hitting here as I type this....but nothing too bad will happen where I'm at not like if it were to hit Charleston or Myrtle Beach....

My grandfather lives in Jacksonville...so I guess he should be fine since it's only really kinda hitting the edge of the Outer Banks last time I looked...

I use to live in Wilmington so I've been through quite a few.
-If you don't want to brave the mass hysteria at your local store for some fresh water, fill up your bath tub or sinks if you don't have a tub. Also works in case you need to refill your toilet after a flush. -The eye wall is the worst part of the storm. The eye itself is eerily calm. However if you go outside in the eye, don't spend too long as the winds that were blowing 100+ mph one way will soon be blowing 100+ mph the other way and that's when a lot of damage happens. -Stock up on batteries and test them beforehand. -If you can't board up your windows, use industrial-strength tape on the outside and apply it diagonally. It'll prevent the windows from shattering inward.

I don't blame anyone for preparing, but people are going nuts. We might lose power up here on Sunday, there WILL be flooding, but its not like the houses are about to all vanish, yet there are the empty store shelves everywhere. People are buying up flashlights, for crying out loud...don't most people already own flashlights?!
Uh oh, the reporter in NC is starting to get rained on! You know what that means.

Turns out the winds are a little bit weaker than expected earlier. No, it doesn't take away from the fact that the storm is friggen huge and will generate massive waves and surge, but maybe it won't be so bad here in southern Maryland. Still prepared for and expecting the worst, though

Looks like we're going to miss it. It may be a tad windy Saturday night/Sunday, but it looks like we're getting no rain.

Ehhhh I hate all of these trees around my house....but they're big pine trees so it'd have to be ridiculously strong to knock one down.....and the forecast isn't too serious...although I'd say we've had some sustained winds around 50 or so mph though...
