This is the type of thing they need to stop doing. You hear legends like Roddy Piper talk about how they did things on-screen without permission and how current wrestlers should take the same risks. But then when they try it, they get punished. I think you have to blow Vince away on how good the promo is. Like CM Punk gave fake bullet points for his legendary game changing pipe bomb promo because Vince would never have approved it. When he finished Vince was blown away and told CM Punk "That was one hell of a promo." If you go off the script and if you failed to deliver, I can see Vince throwing something violently at the ground saying I f***ING TOLD YOU SO. NEXT TIME LISTEN TO ME YOU STUPID DUMB f*** MOTHERf***ER!!!!! YOU WANT TO MAKE IT FAR THAN LISTEN TO MY f***ING ADVICE YOU f***ING UNGRATEFUL PRICK!!! NOW GO JOB TO SWAGGER NEXT WEEK ON RAW!

Here's a wild and crazy idea: 1. Give a copy of that one-sheeter to each of the wrestlers involved. 2. Put each group (like Show, Henry and Bryan above) in a room with an agent or two. Tell them to take that summary and come up with the best way to play it out, and then to report it back to Vince for approval. 3. Spend the time saved by not typing out exact lines on coming up with good storylines.

There was an idea to having something that makes the Usos stand apart -- one idea was that Jimmy could be really smart and Jey could be really stupid. Goofus and Gallant Uso = Ratings

Vince has never seen The Shining? My God that man is out of touch! dude he never saw or heard of Scarface. The story is that when he signed Scott Hall, Hall was doing Tony Montana impressions quoting the movie and Vince thought Hall was a genius coming up with everything on his own. That's why Razor Ramon was Cuban... as Hall said Mr. Perfect was in the room during the interview as he and Hall were friends and when they left for a break he told Hall not to even mention Scarface and just go with it. Razor Ramon(E) was originally a biker...then this happened he didnt just come up with it to throw a gimmick he came up with it to save his career

It's funny how people (not just here) go "OMG NEWZ~!" or whatever whenever guys with proven track records like Meltzer and Johnson say or write things. But an anonymous guy on GameFAQs posting things and claiming to be a writing assistant for WWE is somehow more believable and doesn't get the same skepticism. well because this comes off as too detailed to not be believable. This is weird though. I think this is one of the first things of these I've read where the dude doesn't come off as a bitter prick Yeah I dont buy it either...Hed release this to the sheets before hed just post on a random message board...

Dirtsheets aren't what they used to be. I can see him giving some information to fans on a message board. As I said, this information is way too detailed, organized, and actually realistic for it to be completely made up.

Why? He may not be a fan of sheets, or may see no reason at all to release this to them. I'd doubt that they'd pay him for it, so why benefit them so the stories can get reposted and twisted from what he originally said by all the sites that copy, paste, and editorialize? And this guy at least has pictures, which gives it a bit more credibility to me.

What idea of yours were you the most upset about them turning down?
Probably turning Swagger or Miz face. Or bringing up Brad Maddox. I pitched an idea for a love triangle between AJ, Zack Ryder and eventually AJ's "old boyfriend" played by Brad Maddox. This was way before the AJ/Daniel Bryan storyline.
Is Vince at every (TV) show or does he only come occasionally, and spend most of his time in Stamford? Same thing with Triple H?
Also, did the writing staff ever get orders NOT to push or let them do something to get over (that is, if the writing staff handled that type of stuff)?
Finally, whats the consensus on using Vince as a character? Its obvious they've been trying to limit his role and phase him out as an on screen character, but can you go into detail about that?
Vince goes to every TV taping and has for the last however many thousands of years. I remember a note coming in towards the end of my run there that Vince may start not going to every single show soon, and that was groundbreaking news.
I'm not completely sure but I think Triple H travels with Vince every time.
I don't really know how to answer your second question.
Vince was very close to coming back on TV at one point around the Kevin Nash conspiracy text message crap, and even facing Punk in a match on RAW, but changed his mind and decided to remain off TV.
Question about Del Rio's entrance:
Does WWE pay car rental fees to a company/store, or do the car companies willingly provide their cars for the free advertising, or something? I'm thinking they're doing it for the advertising since the announcers always say the brand, model, and price of the car, and they hype the cars up too.
They're just rental cars. I think the only reason they say all that is to show how wealthy Del Rio is.
Who's the hottest Diva in person? The nicest?
Kelly Kelly is mindblowingly hot in person. Nicest I'm not sure since I didn't exchange words with any, but Beth and Nattie made eye contact and smiled when they passed. Seemed nice.
Do you know what movies Vince HAS watched? He's had to at least seen a few with his family or something.
Does Khali have some sort of illness or injury? Because he can barely move and looks like he's going to break into pieces if he falls to the ground. It's like watching a seven foot tall, slower version of current day Flair. I mean there are overweight big guys that move faster than him including Big Show, and Show had gigantism(though he had it treated) while Khali allegedly didn't.
YES! Vince has definitely seen Gladiator hahaha. I know because Brian told us a story from Hunter. Apparently Hunter Vince Steph and whoever else in the family was watching Gladiator on cable and Vince said something like "What is this? This is really good!" and Hunter's like "....are you serious? Vince this is Gladiator. We've watched this like 20 times."
Khali is fine as far as I know, but he has gigantism so there's probably medical issues that come with that.
Was there any storyline/feud/segment that the writers were especially unhappy with or were particularly disappointed with how the audience reacted?
Well the segment of Kaitlyn turning heel was so badly done that it didn't make it to air. A lot of the Kane/Cena stuff was nowhere near as cool as we wanted. Like that famous gif where Kane peaks out from behind a door after Cena walks away. I laughed so hard when I saw that on TV because it was such a watered down bastardization of our original idea (which I cant remember btw so dont ask). But its live TV and sometimes there's no time to get too ambitious.
My question relates to the Cranky Vince account on twitter, because apparently it's been accurate about things at certain times and people have been saying it could be someone on the writing team. Was it ever discussed around you?
Yes I first learned about it while working there and we would laugh about it all the time because Vince can be like that sometimes. He says "GODDAMMIT" a lot from what I hear. However the consensus is that its probably a former writer, because they know a lot of stuff only insiders would know but it doesn't really match what's currently happening in real time. So I think it's just an ex-writer guessing.
And I'm pretty sure the account pre-dates me working there.
You mentioned the Jonah Hill appearance that was ultimately nixed (despite it still being advertised up to the start of that Raw.) Do you know what the plans were for that Raw, and why things changed so drastically that they had to throw out the footage?
Long story short Jonah showed up at Survivor Series to tape the backstages that were to air the next night. However he only had like an hour and had to do everything in one take. It didn't come out well and they decided not to air it.
The fact that it was still advertised before RAW was probably USA's fault or something.
Any stories/backstage notes on a guy like Christian?
Only thing I ever heard about Christian is that he introduces himself as Jay.
Also he has a bit of a rep for being one of the people who complains when they don't think they're being used enough.
What was the deal with John Cena being absent from the TLC card?
Was there a reason Sheamus didn't have a real feud for the latter part of the year?
With TLC drawing near and the writers pressuring Vince about what he wanted to do with Cena. He ultimately said something like "I don't think we need him on the card." I think he wanted to see how the PPV would do without him.
From what I recall they just wanted Sheamus to go around kicking ass and push his Irish temper thing to build him up a bit as a monster face.
- Any word on Divas, namely Layla and Kharma. - How did Hunico became popular?
Layla was absent with her injury the entire time I was working there, but her name was brought up as a candidate for the third heel Diva to join Nattie and Beth, even though she doesnt look "pin-up strong" at all. Then there was talk of bringing her back as a Lady Gaga-like character but that didn't happen either. (Unfortunately. I thought that would've been quite unique and cool).
I talked about Kharma already. She was gone with the pregnancy the whole time and around Dec or Jan we heard about the miscarriage and that nobody knew for sure when she'd be back.
Good question about Hunico. I think it was at a Smackdown taping where there were a number of heels in the ring cutting a promo. During a commercial break, Vince told them via headset to give the mic to Hunico, just to see what he could do on the fly without warning. Hunico cut a good promo off the top of his head and that really impressed Vince. I think he's been in Vince's good graces ever since. Not sure if that answers your question or not.
How did you all decide that Hunico would be fake Sin Cara? Did you all like his portrayal of Sin Cara better than the actual?
Not sure who made this decision. Probably Hunter I would guess. I think in general people like Hunico better than Sin Cara because Hunico came up through our own farming system and is very familiar with the WWE style. Sin Cara as has been brought up many times before had a lot of trouble adapting to the American style of wrestling.
Also he was a bit of a puss, as he would often complain of some nagging injury. His neck or his shoulder or whatever. There was always something with him.
But he's a god in Mexico, and we just started going to Mexico a few times a year, so to have anyone else but Sin Cara play Sin Cara on a permanent basis would get them eaten alive. I think WWE still feels theres tons of money to be made off Sin Cara, but I'm a big Hunico fan personally.
why was bryan losing so much when he was mitb, did he do something or was it another one of vince's random phases?
what's everybody's feelings about cm punk? is he considered antisocial or a decent guy?
mick foley once said that its all about the pitch no matter how bad the story actually might be, any cases where bad stories made through simply because of how they were pitched to vince?
biggest complainer in the locker room? by complainer i mean prima donna attitude who makes things harder for everyone, complaining about everything given to him/her.
what are each of the divas like, who you've met or seen interacting with someone else? what's the take of people like vince or whoever else you might have heard on the whole kelly sleeps around story that got out? any tales of sexual harassment/misogyny?
general consensus on jim ross? did undertaker ever swing by backstage in that time period? any other injured/inactive ppl who did the same? did you interact with any of them?
Bryan was just kind of a boring character as a face, so I don't think there was much incentive to keep him winning. Besides he always had the briefcase, so it didn't really matter how much he lost.
Personally from what I saw at Survivor Series Punk is kind of antisocial. He may very well be a decent guy too, but I wouldn't call him approachable.
I don't know about pitches really because I was never in the room for the Vince meetings where things were pitched to him. However if the writers thought it was a bad idea, it would never get pitched to Vince in the first place. The bad ideas that make it on TV are often coming from Vince himself.
The biggest complainers are probably the Divas, and rightfully so. They always wish they were getting more TV time and longer matches and I can't blame them. Daniel Bryan as I stated before complained a lot about the girlfriend story with AJ, but I bet he ain't complaining now.
The divas all seem very nice and friendly. I only managed to introduce myself to AJ backstage at Survivor Series. She was sweet and introduced herself as April. Beth, Natalya and Alicia walked by me on a few occasions backstage and smiled or nodded professionally. I don't know anything about the Kelly Kelly rumors.
It's clear that Vince has something against JR, but nobody knows why. Vince got a big kick out of any opportunity to embarass JR on TV, but Jim is always a good sport about it. I remember nobody wanting to be the one that gets on the phone with JR because he'll talk your ear off for two hours. I think some people think JR was a better EVP of Talent Relations that Laurinaitis is.
I think Undertaker was backstage at a Raw in Texas just to say hi to people. He was bald with a long grey sort of wizard beard, which I was really hoping he'd have at Wrestlemania but no dice. I didn't see him as I didn't travel, but I heard it from the writers who went.
Also, third question, do you have any interesting stories with meeting certain people?
Vince and Triple H are my best stories, told above.
I had a brief interaction with John Morrison backstage at Survivor Series. I introduced myself awkwardly saying my name was John as well. It was right before he was planning to leave, while I (constantly) was afraid of getting fired any day now. So he said something like "One of us won't be here anymore in a few weeks!" and I said "Maybe two of us" and he said "Nah you'll be fine! You have a great name!"
I also saw Sin Cara without his mask backstage (spoilers: looks like a mexican guy). I speak spanish so I wished him good luck. That was the night his knee exploded >_>
I shook Mark Henry's hand, which is an enormous mass of muscle.
I was ten feet away from The Rock cutting his (completely live btw) backstage promo at Survivor Series. There was a large crowd of crew watching him backstage completely in awe as he went through the whole thing. Backstage promos are usually pre-taped during the show, but Rock insisted on doing it live so he could interact with the crowd.
I saw Michael Hayes regularly. He's funny as hell. I had John Laurinaitis call me into his office to clear something up with me. I saw John on a few occasions and he was always really nice. He would occasionally pop into the writer's room just to say hello.
Is there a separate group of people to decide what happens at house shows and dark matches?
The agents script house shows. Usually one of them is assigned to book and run the whole show. They used to send us reports via email after every house show. One of my favorites was -- I think maybe from Arn Anderson -- "Alex Riley went out for his match, slipped on the turnbuckle while going up for his taunt, and that was the best part of the match"
Dark matches seem to be reserved for developmental talent nowadays and matches on Superstars usually just comes down to who isn't being used that night on RAW/SD.
