you have to be american to renounce it. we can say its dumb to have three talented youngsters feuding jim duggan. but the basic concept worked well enough. (note: the only thing i remember about the revolution was a promo from shane douglas where the first full minute was censored, and i think mark madden said at the end, "um, i think you can say SOME of those words on tv..." so i admit i don't really know)

From memory, I knew that women's wrestling in WCW didn't really mean anything, but wow watching Nitro and the PPVs over again, I'm realizing just HOW little it meant. They're barely used on TV, they bring in women from Japan totally cold who have terrible matches that consist of just them yelling and walking around for 80% of the match.

people rag on tony schiavone for being inaccurate and hyperbolic sometimes. "you ask any tag team, any veteran tag team, who's the top young tag team in our sport right now...talk about rookies, they'll all say high voltage." i'm pretty sure high voltage never won a single match on nitro. and he called them the top team in the sport. They won a match the week before. They were trying to push them for that month. Then they forgot about it like 45 other pushes for newer talent.

Mid 97 NWO is embarrassing to watch. When it comes down to it, it's a gaggle of old men pretending to be teenage "gangstas." It's not an "invasion." It's a midlife crisis. It's not the only groan worthy thing either. Between the "pro athletes" (namely Kevin Greene), the never ending Benoit/Kevin Sullivan feud and freaking Piper "chopping and paving, chopping and paving", I honestly can't figure out why this was so popular.
One thing I am enjoying, however, is the James Vandenberg "rare oddities" story. It's silly as hell, but at least it's fun.

i really like the nwo, but i admit i was getting that feeling watching spring breakout. like, these dudes are all near or over 40, and they're winking and waving at like 20 year old college girls. i don't necessarily blame them. but its more creepy and "ew, dad..." than it is cool.

Sting just came down from the rafters then hooked his harness up to DDP who was knocked out by a belt shot from Hogan and essentially rode DDP back up to the rafters. Talk about dangerous. I just watched the Nitro where Hogan demanded Sting come out and wrestle then and there. Then they had "Sting" decend rapidly from the rafters and essentially crash onto the floor. Hogan & the nWo showed concern, demanding a doctor and an ambulance. (It's a shoot, brah!) Then they picked him up, shoved him into the ring and beat up the mannequin. Yeah, that may not have been a good idea to replay. I'm just watching that episode now (#104 September 8th '97, if anybody was wondering) and I'm actually surprised I've not seen it before. I would have thought it would have been common in those videos that claim to show Owen's fall instead of the scaffold match that usually shows up. Some more of my own post Summerslam '97 ones: Pillman had to wrestle in a dress until he won a match. Goldust, as well as doing the usual distraction techniques, just wandered down to the ring one week, casually got in and dropped an elbow on Jesse James (Pillman's opponent that week), causing a DQ loss for Pillman. What happened to Jim Neidhart after Summerslam? His stipulation was that if any of the Hart Foundation lost at Summerslam, he would shave off his goatee but he seems to have vanished. I've not got that far yet, but I'm pretty sure he was there when Steve Blackman turned up before Survivor Series.

Another Bash At The Beach 1998 one - Rey Mysterio Jr. comes back after 7 month injury and Mike Tenay's says it's Mysterio's first real injury, my how times change. And also no disrepect to American sports fans, but they keep hyping up the involement of Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman to being a big deal to fans around the world but like Lawrence Taylor at WM11 it means very little to most people outside North America paritcularly with Karl Malone. In fairness, at least in my bit of London, the NBA was on a hot streak in the mid 90s and people knew the Chicago Bulls and a few of their players an opponents, so not quite as bad as LT. I definitely knew Rodman and Malone.

The April 14, 1997 Raw might be the most impossible thing to watch ever.

I admit to dozing off during a couple of episodes, but the announcers don't even bring him up. Was he fired or was Vince that broke that he didn't wanna pay Neidhart his $75/night? BTW, I know I said I hated the Gang Warz, but I legit laughed at that parking lot street fight and seeing Savio and his guys stealing DOA's bikes in the background.

Public enemy was way more over in WCW than I remembered.
Also they don't get enough credit for bringing tables to the mainstream

You guys think Lilian is terrible now? Go back to the Raw after Summerslam 1999. She is GOD AWFUL. She's sounds like she's just yelling off cue cards.

The April 14, 1997 Raw might be the most impossible thing to watch ever. Why? I think that was filmed in South Africa so the picture is not as sharp and is that the one they lost sound for? For a family from Calgary the Hart Foundation sure likes repping the Oilers in Edmonton

I have learned that "Hog Wild" is a thing, but I have not necessarily learned why.
I have also learned that bikers do not like Harlem Heat.

That getting a biker gang together only takes a week but a group of Puerto Rican ice cream men takes 2.

For a family from Calgary the Hart Foundation sure likes repping the Oilers in Edmonton That is true, but not why it was impossible to watch. For me anyway, the episode would keep glitching and starting back at the beginning all over again. When it would do that, it would get stuck in an endless loop of Cornette and McMahon hyping a Austin-Hart match for 10 seconds. Very difficult to watch
