As a kid I was interested and believed in them but as I got older I didn't believe. What do you think?

I don't know if ghosts as in, "Boo, I'm a ghost!" are real, but I definitely still believe in hauntings. I have just seen way too much unexplainable stuff to be able to 100% say hauntings aren't real.
Now what is causing the hauntings is an entirely different topic.

The real ones are real. The fakes are mostly landlords.

I don't know. I like the idea because it's fascinating (same reason I hold out hope that Bigfoot is real), but, gun to my head, I lean towards no.
What is real, however, is my fear of shows like Ghost Hunters and all the others in that category. I know it's probably played up for TV, but when they play back the audio that's "supposedly" ghosts, it bugs me out. I'm sure they're not real, but I really don't like the distorted, f***ed up voices.

to some yes, to others no.
just don't ask if zombies are real, I don't want to find out I don't really exist.

I'm inclined to say yes they are or as another user has said, hauntings are at least real. Too many unexplained life experiences won't allow me to say they aren't. I find a lot of people who use the 'there's a explainable reason for everything' cliche, even when they can't tell you what the explainable answer is are either 1) Too afraid to admit that it's not explainable or 2) Trying to stop you being too afraid of whatever it is that's going on.
My grandpa used to do this when I was young but he finally gave in years later and told me that he knew there was no reason for the strange events in our lives but he didn't want to scare me as a child. I found it funny, I never believed him anyway but I used to pretend he was right just to stop HIM being scared. Funny how things work out.

I think....that since there are some very strong theories in regards to parallel dimensions/alternate reality out there, based in physics...or something - that the idea that dimensional overlap might cause extremely difficult to explain phenomena that people attribute to ghosts or spectral hauntings.
The flip side is, people's minds are much more powerful than they could imagine and while the ghosts aren't necessarily "halluncinations" many cases are probably the sub-regions of people's minds act work.
Also, if they were real, they'd have a Reality TV show on TLC by now.

Nope. Exactly zero evidence of anything that would stand up yo scientific scrutiny under controlled situations.

Maybe it's just something about the weird way my brain is wired, but I'm usually more inclined to believe the straight up "this place is f***ing haunted and this is why" stories than when people try to scientifically explain away the ghost sightings because 9 times out of 10 it always sounds to me like they're either intentionally misquoting or straight up misunderstanding the science they use. That said, I don't believe in ghosts. I kind of wish I could, because life after death fascinates me, but I just can't. I have weak faith, I need more proof and I haven't found any yet.

I think things linger. I think there are places that bare some kind of indescribable imprint or something.
What I don't believe in is that shows like Ghost Hunters are entertaining.
It ain't science, it's just.... something.

I believe in hauntings and ghosts. I think those "ghost chaser" types of reality shows are all really stupid and extremely fake, but I do believe that people have had encounters with something unexplainable.

No. No, they're not.
Ever notice how everyone that has seen a ghost or some sort of paranormal activity always seems to have several stories? These people are either compulsive liars or really gullible IMO.

I think people see things, I think people believe that what they're hearing is something they can't understand or can't be explained, and I believe that people are likely to attribute that to things they've heard of. Our minds are great at making us believe something, even if something isn't there.
On the other hand, I also believe in people's endless capacity to lie and hoax for attention and monetary gain.
So I tend to lean towards no, most of the stories I've heard can't be backed up, and most of the things that can don't turn out to be real. I'd probably have to be haunted myself to ever truly believe in ghost and the like.

That said, I don't believe in ghosts. I kind of wish I could, because life after death fascinates me, but I just can't. I have weak faith, I need more proof and I haven't found any yet. Haha! Fair to say...but the idea of ghosts is anything but straight forward. Its accepted shorthand now, but the actual idea of it is very complex. It presupposes that... A) A soul/spirit exists (which, already - VERY complicated idea there). B) It can exist independently of the body. C) Souls/spirits, despite not having any physical properties can become proxmially tethered to a location/object. D) Alternatively they can also disappear into...presumably nothingness? (If they're not haunting something, then where are they?) and E) They can elect when they are viewed by human That seems anything but straightforward to me, whereas the idea that people's subconcious creates the visual subject people think are ghosts seems more straightforward. Also, the overlap in dimensional planes is also just shorthand for a very complex idea, but one that is more fun to talk about than just, "People are imagining it."
