if she actually gets sent to jail she wouldn't last a day there due to rampant transphobia.

How dare they consider doing this to A NATIONAL HERO?!?!?!?!? The greatest hero America has ever seen, judging by how people reacted earlier this year. *rolls eyes* She's probably helped a lot of people by just being a publically visible figure. This issue she's dealing with aside, bringing light to violence against transgender people is not eyeroll worthy. That parts a positive for sure, but the fact that she was placed on this huge pedestal when it's unlikely she will ever face 10% of the issues any other transgender in North America made the whole "hero" a little much. A hero is my friend Luke who earlier this year completed his reassignment process, and who proudly walked front and centre without a shirt on in our hick cities first ever LBGT parade is more deserving of that. The girl living in bumf*** Southern USA and facing taunts and threats of violence on a daily basis and still wearing a smile, and being happy with who she is. That's a hero. Caitlyn's celeb status will definitely shield her from the worst of the worst of the worst, and she also lives in a VERY open minded part of the U.S. EDIT: Just noticed I had f***ed up a pronoun. No disrespect was intended.

Deserves a LOT more if this is true.
Celebrity bias is sickening.

She provides it. I can only name two other trans celebrities who have a decent amount of visibility, Laverne Cox and Laura Jane Grace. Neither of them are nearly as visible as Jenner though.

I don't think there's any celebrity bias in play here. It's simply a lax law.
If I remember correctly, there were photos of Caitlyn (then Bruce) texting behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
My guess is that California's (and probably many other places') traffic laws are antiquated in some areas that this would fall under distracted driving, rather than something on its own.

I'm of two minds here: On the one hand, trans people are severely underrepresented and need visibility. Caitlyn Jenner certainly provides that and can use her platform to good use. On the other, she is a celebrity and already has received so much more than so many trans people will ever get in their lifetimes, so I understand why some trans men and women feel a bit negatively about the attention she's receiving.

Well, this law sucks then. Accidentally killing someone and injuring 5 children only gets you a year in jail? That's awful.

According to some eyewitness accounts I've read, the person she killed was driving like a maniac and there was no avoiding the crash. Depends on who you believe. Either way it's not like she did it on purpose.

He's also in a position where he can be filmed as part of a personal atonement/redemption story. Just tune in to E! and stay tuned for Total Divas. That "he" is a typo, right? Just spitballing, but if Jenner does go to prison, which one do you think they'll put Jenner in, men's or women's? Ignoring the part where there won't be interaction with other prisoners and it'll probably be more accommodating than most Motel 6's are.

Well, given Jenner is a woman, she would be put in a female prison. So that's why I asked, was the "he" meant to be a typo?

I didn't even know Jenner killed someone. Was it totally brushed over in the media or something?

Again, not meaning to rustle feathers here, Identifying as a woman is different than being a woman, no? Pardon my ignorance on the topic, but Jenner identifies as a woman. That much has been said in interviews. If they do put Jenner in women's prison, how does it not set a terrible precedent of males considering themselves to be female in order to be placed in prison with the opposite sex? There is a aura of subjectivity there, given the Caitlyn character "debuted" in June and the accident that he's due to possibly be charged for happened in February. I'm far from a lawyer, I watch Law and Order sometimes, that's my bar experience, I'm sure this gets settled in court. I just figure it's interesting food for thought.

I'd say, just put Kaitlyn in some form of solitary prison. If she'd go to a male prison, she'd get her ass kicked/worse, if she went to a female prison they'd ostracize her because...well, she's still technically a dude. This is a no-win situation for Kaitlyn.

Wherever she's placed, she'd be in isolation.

I'm far from the most vocal supporter of the trans movement and am more than a little confused by it, but that's just dumb. Jenner has been struggling with this for a while and didn't plan out a sex change to get a sexy prison sentence. That holds about as much water as the politicians saying boys will identify as girls so they can shower with them in gym class. The costs outweigh any particular titillating benefits in this situation, especially in the country club resort prison Jenner would serve time in.
