Too Human... the first part of our epic trilogy! that will never happen A sort-of example would have to be U2 just assuming everyone would bow at their smug feet for forcing their latest album onto everyone's iTunes account. This was Apple not U2. Apple paid u2 a shitload of money for the exclusive rights for the album. I saw this in a magazine long ago..long, long ago. Mario one is funny since this was originally a Yoshi game...

Curt Shillings little video game project. Was supposed to start with Kingdom of Adamar(spelling?), then there was supposed to be this sprawling mmo. Salvatore and McFarlane (of Spawn fame) were working on it and it was supposed to be this huge story, etc.
What we ended up with was an ok game and his company going under. Couldn't pay anyone who worked on it and eventually went back to mlb because he was broke.

I saw this in a magazine long ago..long, long ago. Hey I played that game. It was, nothing special from what little I can remember. I guess that kind of proves the point.

At least Pokémon knew there were sequels coming when it called its first movie "The First Movie" Doug should've ended when the Nickelodeon ended the series on their network. The Disney spinoff was not the greatest. Movie was boring, but the final seasons on Disney weren't bad at all.

Wild 9. I remember the game had a huge ad campaign and I guess Shiny and Interplay were trying to spawn a franchise out of it, but there was never a sequel. It had a bunch of characters, planets, vehicles, weapons and entities that had almost no explanation behind them and a practically nonexistent story, but the way the game was played, it was as if it expected you to know all the people were, and what all the in-game subject matter was about. They also made a huge deal about the final boss...which consisted of a huge guy chasing you before he gets thrown around for a while.
It wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't anything special.

I feel like Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit almost falls into this, but it ultimately in a different sort of category.
I don't know the story behind it, but it seems clear that the game was originally planned to be a multi-part series. Then sometime halfway through development they decided to push all of it together. So you get a game that starts off great and turns into a complete mess during the last quarter.

Toonami's Cartoon Network run with Naruto. They put all of their hype on that show and even went as far to say "The best show they have ever had" (yes even beyond DBZ in its prime). However they put all of their eggs in one basket and it bit them in the ass when Naruto's legendary bad filler arc started. I think this is what killed Toonami for awhile. The Filler of Naruto is enough to make people break out in hives. And Filler can be good and entertaining if done right, look at DBZ and the episode were Piccolo and Goku go to driving school. One of the funniest episodes in the series. I can't name one good filler episode in Naruto's entire run.

Rise of the Robots was originally going to have a massive franchise behind it. But once the first game ended up a Steaming turd on all consoles, that was the end of those plans. There was a sequel, but it was just as bad, effectively killing the series there.

WWE certainly comes to mind just based on how they market themselves. For example, "WWE 2K16 is the most talked about game in the world" is one of the most laughably bullshit claims I've heard in a while. Fallout 4? Call of Duty: Black Ops 3? Metal Gear Solid V even after being out for a couple of months? No, it's WWE 2K16 that's getting everybody talking. maybe they used WWE Math combined with Video Game Math. when Halo 4 came out, the box said it was "The most anticipated video game of the year*" (*according to one website). go to the website and sure enough, Halo 4 for Xbox 360 is in the number one spot based on the number of pre-orders. but number two was Call of Duty for 360 with almost the same amount of pre-orders, and number three was Call of Duty for PS3 with slightly fewer pre-order. so the combined pre-orders for COD was almost twice as much as those for Halo, but that doesn't sound good for Halo, so let's call them two separate games

This f***ing game. I was so hype for it as a kid, got it for Christmas, really enjoyed it, and then it ends on a cliff hanger. Considering that was 12 years ago, I don't think I'm getting a sequel. Unless they go really meta with it and bring it out next year.

What DID Daisy want at the end of the first SMB movie?
Amazing Spider-Man too....though the Sony leaks and Marvel getting the rights to the character didn't help that.
The X-Men Origins series....there was going to be a Magneto one too, then Fox remembered what happened with Wolverine....

I doubt they would have negotiated with Marvel had Amazing Spider-man 2 made anywhere near the money they were expecting. Sony were expecting it to (and kinda needed it to, since the ad blitz and the fact that Sony was bleeding money at the time) make Avengers money.

Unless they go really meta with it and bring it out next year. There was a side scrolling mobile sequel apparently. There are actually two TV miniseries based off the graphic novel.
