If I read this right, the thing that's going to happen is that there will be no ads on "controversial" videos, and noone's getting booted unless breaking the regular guidelines, flawed as they may be? Pretty much but the problem lies in something Boogie 2988 brought up. Most of the YouTubers I frequent would be okay with not being able to monitize certain videos for example Boogie talked about just having a section of his channel for those videos but YouTube has said that if you have too many videos that can't be monitized they will Demonetize your entire channel.

Question about those ads, are they the ads that play before the video, or the pop-up ads that show up during videos? I was watching a cinema snob vid last night and while there was no ad before the video, there were pop-ups during the video.

I am curious how news agencies that use YouTube to host stories will work with this war thing now? I imagine Russia Today are just outright deleted. Also, well done for removing a part of social media that got war crimes and atrocities exposed quickly to the global audience. Nice to see that possibility of saving lives go because "advertiser friendly" types may dislike it. Google can f*** off. I thought about news channels too, but I think Giggle is going to look the other way any formal/tradition news source or movie studio. Maybe I need to adjust my tin foil lacefront... Given the past history of YouTube crackdowns, I don't trust Google any farther that I can throw them. The road to hell is paved with good intentions here. Or, if I may look like one of the cool kids in school here, in reference to the artwork in your sig: I hope they're satisfied/God, I hope they're satisfied.

Caddicarus has made a very interesting video counting how many times Nicki Minaj's video for "Anaconda", which is having no problem getting advertisements, breaks the advertiser-friendly content rules while at the same time, another YouTuber got his videos demonetized for merely talking about the Brock Turner story (and remember, some people had their channels taken down over these new rules).
Obviously considering the topic, language warning:
So in what I am sure is going to be a huge shock to everyone, it looks like these rules only apply to smaller channels and major companies are exempt from them. So if you have a shitload of money, go ahead and use all the sexual imagery, swearing and violence you want but if you're a smaller channel, don't you dare discuss important issues like how distressingly lax the justice system is regarding sexual assault.

I won't say just user channels because let face it, these rules won't apply to people like Pewpewpie or the Fine Bros. The rules only apply to the midcard and below of YouTube, not the main eventer/favorite of the month.

Yeah, but it discourages people from wanting to use YouTube to present their opinions, because it's pretty clear that if you have money to spare, YouTube will let you break all the rules, but everybody else must walk the tightrope over a minefield. Also, isn't YouTube a money pit?

As for money pit, I'm not sure. I know they were before Google but I don't know if their still are or not.

Well, something like YouTube is... complicated, and even Google probably has yet to fully get the most out of the website. So, maybe this content stuff is meant to be friendly to advertisers so that they can make more money that way.

You're absolutely right...which sucks ass because there's a hell of a lot of amazing YouTubers at that level. Including pretty much all my favorites. It's still bullshit. Google only wants the YouTubeer who will make them a shitload of money which I can understand in a way because Google IS a business but damn this is a sucky way to go about it.

By this time next year, Youtube is going to consist of nothing but cat videos.
Assuming, of course, that the cats don't hurt themselves in any way.

One other super hypocritical thing is that youtube are perfectly fine with taking the money from the videos deemed too controversial but the content maker themselves won't see a dime.
This is why so many big youtube personalities are running patreon.
