I watched it yesterday for the first time in years after watching the go home Raw and the March to Wrestlemania. It's not good. in fact it's very, very bad. I know that a lot of people here have a nostalgia for it but I still don't get it. The set is cheesy af, several matches have terrible endings, and the crowd seems to be made of tourists, gamblers who don't care at all and drunks. I know people often say Wrestlemania XI is worse, and it is very bad, but I'd rather watch it than this turd again.

Oh it is indeed a bad show; but some redeeming features.
Streiners v Headshrinkers is a nice little match; evil Double Doink is a great moment; Tatanka v HBK is great until the finish; Bret v Yoko is also good up till the finish.
But it is definitely in the conversation for worst mania - no question. Eleven still takes that accolade for me though.

It is indeed one the worst, but I think that's more due to bad booking, instead of match quality in which WM9 was simply 'below average'.
11 is worse than 9 because 11 had worse match quality, worse star power, and even worse booking than 9.
27 is worse than 9 because while it had better star power than 9, 27 utilized their stars way worse. Also 27's booking was way worse than the other 2 WMs mentioned.

1. The Double Doink moment was spoiled a bit (in my mind a lot) by the fact that about 60% of Matt Borne's makeup had been sweet off and his hair was peaking through the wig so he and Keirn looked nothing a like by the end.
2. With the exception of the World Title match I would say that the booking of Wrestlemania XI was better. They blew off Bret vs Backlund clean, they advanced the Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid storyline, and in most of the undercard matches that didn't really matter the babyfaces went over. Compare that to IX where they booked themselves into a corner with the IC title match, had crappy finishes to almost every featured match and a title match that was promoted around how badly Bret Hart was going to get beat.

News to me, it's been one of the most hated Manias for some time now. I'd say there's been worse recent ones, but yeah.

This has one of my favorite moments where Bob Backlund in full white meat Howdy Doody glory tries to shake Razor’s hand and gets a toothpick to the face for his troubles. That has been hilarious to me since it first happened.

I know that on FAN in particular in the past few years when the topic of bad Manias come up there is a vocal minority that talks highly of this show.

Has there ever been any doubt that it's a bad show? It's often regarded as one of the worst Wrestlemanias of all time and there are a bunch of threads placing it toward the bottom, most often next to Wrestlemania XI.

That has been hilarious to me since it first happened. And the crowd was solidly behind Razor at that point, which may have led to them jump-starting his face turn with the 1-2-3 Kid angle shortly thereafter. This was also a decent match that was hamstrung by the short time it was given.

Prichard has said that the plan was always to turn Backlund heel off of his real life nature but he had to come back as a babyface in order to set up the snapping and heel turn. So really anything post Rumble 93, pre- Bret match on Superstars is just kind of there.

It’s the one I despise the most because it looked like everything was done at the last minute, Giant Gonzalez, every match sucking, Hogan getting his way at the end in a match and story that had nothing to do with him.
Even wwe director Kerwin Silfes says it’s the worst wm ever.

It's the first Wrestlemania I watched, so I have a soft spot for it. But yeah, it was mostly bad, particularly "Hogan must pose" at the end.
Still, there were two storylines I loved as a kid:
Mr. Perfect vs The Narcissist, and the storyline about the steel plate in Lex's arm that gave him an illegal advantage when using that forearm finisher.
Genuinely creepy, heel Doink and the reveal of a second Doink!

Yeah this one was pretty bad. I had just gotten my own place and knew I’d be all moved in and set up just in time for Wrestlemania IX so my housewarming party was having my buddies over to watch the ppv. A couple of of hem had never watched wrestling before and this was their introduction. Neither of them ever watched wrestling again

It's not technically a good show at all, but it's bizarrely bad. Even in the modern era, there hasn't been a WrestleMania with that kind of elaborate, detailed theming.
The booking doesn't feel quite Mania-like. It's not due to Hogan not main eventing, Bret was more than credible enough for that spot. And Yokozuna was a solid monster. But if Hogan wasn't willing to play ball with Bret, why not try to woo Macho into working with Bret instead of just sticking him behind the booth? Yoko didn't have anything near Savage's marquee attraction status yet. It's also a shame Vince couldn't talk Ric into staying around tiil Mania before he went back to WCW, because Luger feels like too much of a substitute for Flair to extend Heenan's heat with Perfect.

9 is a bad show, but in a cheesy old school WWF way, not in a way that pisses me off.
Nothing cute about 11. It's just a turd.

IX is bad. The best kind of bad. The kinda bad that swings all the way around and becomes incredibly fun. It's absolutely one of my favorite PPVs ever.
