Home Improvement. Was a massive hit, it would beat Seinfeld in head to head ratings, JTT was a teen idol for a moment....and the show is just gone. A friend i know worked for a local TV station that buys syndicated TV shows. The switch to HD + the rapid rate of tech kinda made those shows obsolete. NBC used different higher quality cameras that were able to make shows like Friends and Seinfeld look like they were filmed in HD and in widescreen. I take it shows like Home Improvement and Drew Carey had much smaller production budgets. They also just seem more dated. Makes sense. Letterman joked for years about the HD cameras they had but the show wasn’t yet broadcast in HD.

I remember USA seeming to be absolutely desperate for Colony to be a hit. They ran ads for it constantly, insistently pushed it as an "event series" at every possible opportunity, and then they were as quick as possible to pick it up for three seasons only to cancel it pretty much the instant the third one ended.
I don't think they ever even gave any indication as to what the hell the show was about.
Honestly I've never understood what the hell happened with USA. They were dominant with quirky detective shows like Monk and Psych, and stuff in a somewhat similar (if darker) vein like reruns of House, NCIS, and SVU, and yet for some reason as their ratings have slid over the years they've more and more dug in their heels that gritty intense drama is what they need to turn it around even after one after another after another after another flops.

And it wasn't even like it was a long term thing, they still had stuff like Suits in their back pocket, which was an international hit and Mr. Robot was their awards darling for the longest time. After that, it felt like everything they produced was, at best, curious fodder for bored international Netflix subscribers. Like, when you're losing credibility to Pop TV of all places with Schitt's Creek, your network is in big trouble.

Yeah, Seinfeld, Cheers Frasier and Friends for sure were all recorded on film rather then tape so it’s very easy to release them in HD. Honestly not sure what other NBC sitcoms got that treatment back then EDIT: And actually, I believe they were all filmed in 16:9 as well and then cropped down to 4:3 for broadcast. But because everything was shot with the expectation of being in 4:3, the 16:9 footage is useless due to how everything was framed. Similar issue happened when they were restoring the original Star Trek TNG negatives

I remember so many ads about one called Pam Am (It was another of those quirky shows that came out in the wake of Desperate Housewives, but on a plane...or something) and I think it lasted six episodes.
But the list is really astronomical

US version of Coupling. That is all. I’ll never forget TV Guide pegging that as the next big thing and it ended up being the first new show canceled that season. Didn’t it last two episodes? “Coupling is a sure thing” was their exact quote.

I remember Fox being all in on Drive when I worked there when it aired, and then it underperformed in the ratings and they Fox'ed the hell of the show.
I think somewhere I still have stuff from the EPK promotion kit for the show that had the driver's licenses for everyone on the show.

Man I miss Lexx. Odd as hell but fun show. Feels like Heroes went from being a huge deal during it's first season,to being forgotten. Sheldon Cooper: "Heroes gradually lowered the quality season by season till we were grateful it ended." I remember Fox being all in on Drive when I worked there when it aired, and then it underperformed in the ratings and they Fox'ed the hell of the show. I think somewhere I still have stuff from the EPK promotion kit for the show that had the driver's licenses for everyone on the show. I was a fan of that show, it was entertaining. And had a talented cast with Nathan Fillion, Dylan Baker, Melanie Lynskey, Amy Acker (granted she didn't do much since she was the kidnapped wife) and Emma Stone.

I can't remember the last time I saw a re-run of Ally McBeal. That was a massive deal at the time.

Does Defiance count? SYFY pushed it hard it even had a major video game released along with it having the game and show intermingle. Yet after it got released I remember hearing nothing about it ever again

The Drew Carey Show was a pretty big hit when it aired. It's seemingly gone from the face of the Earth. I don't think any place airs reruns. Though a buddy of mine says he watched the show recently and it hasn't aged well, so...*shrug* Home Improvement. Was a massive hit, it would beat Seinfeld in head to head ratings, JTT was a teen idol for a moment....and the show is just gone. Up TV an Laff, play it.

Spin City, 3rd rock from the sun and Becker - conspicuously absent on a streaming platform/television shows (Ireland/UK based - so it might be different state side) - they show everybody loves raymond/king of queens/cheers/fraiser all the time, but those comedies were popular as them 3rd Rock is on Tubi and I wanna say Prime as well. It’s all over the place here in Canada streaming. 3rd rock from the son is on lie every free streming service, it' on Roku channel, I think it's on pluto tv

The Brothers Grunt was a MTV show by Danny Antonucci from around 1994 that MTV heavily promoted for a time in 1994, but by the fall, it was completely gone, almost as if it never aired. For that matter, pretty much all MTV cartoons that werent Beavis and Butthead or Celebrity Deathmatch: The Maxx, The Head, Cartoon Sushi, 3 South, Downtown, all had lots of hype, only to pretty much disappear (The Maxx was the only one to get a DVD release).

sky and other uk channels have a nasty habit of doing this, hyping a show massively just as it tanks and gets cancelled in the us.
