True Detective comes to mind. First season was a bit of a phenomenon and critically acclaimed, second basically killed all interest in it, and while there was a third I didn't even know that until a second ago on looking up info on the show. Not officially cancelled but it's probably safe to say it is.

Home Improvement, I feel like still airs. It's definitely lost a lot of steam compared to what kind of push it used to have, though. I think that's likely a combination of Jonathan Taylor Thomas kind of leaving the public consciousness and Tim Allen burning good will with people. I think Last Man Standing's existence just kind of puts a lot of people off of the idea.
Ally McBeal definitely never recovered from Robert Downey Jr. getting busted and fired. Him being written out definitely screwed with the momentum of the show and some of the characterization. I was re-watching it recently, and honestly, a lot of the show just doesn't hold up. Great cast, but a lot of other shows just kind of did what it did better.
I'd propose Sherlock as an example. Huge show, but that finale probably rivals Supernatural for "What the hell was that?!" material that made fans infuriated that they'd ever invested time into the show, leaving most of the fans dissatisfied, and that's true even outside of shipper types, so it wasn't just that. I frankly think Elementary is a show that holds up significantly better.

Never watched Last Man Standing, but funny you mention that with Home Improvement because recently they had a crossover episode where both of Tim Allens characters met. Don't know if it was a whole episode thing or not, but I saw it in a commercial.

Not officially cancelled but it's probably safe to say it is. what I mainly remember about the first season was people apparently putting forth tons of theories that the show contained legitimate supernatural forces and like Cthulu being involved... when no it was literally a show about detectives. I think the fact the crazy supernatural stuff DIDN'T happen is part of why it fell off at least audience wise.

Lois and Clark.
The lexicon goes George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Smallville and beyond.
It's the one Superman live action show that gets looked over despite being huge in the day and Teri Hatcher breaking the internet.

Well if we're gonna go down the Superman rabbit hole, might as well mention the live-action 1988 Superboy TV series, which went off the air in 1992 and just about nobody at WB or DC has acknowledged its existence since. I would be remiss if I didn't mention its awesomely bad theme song which sounds like a mash-up of the John Williams score with the Miami Vice theme song.

Was the first DC show IIRC that was post-Crisis, and had at least one crossover episode with Wonder Woman. But with the success of the DCAU later, it tends to be forgotten.

The first two series are some of the best television of the 2010s and they would have been smarter never to have brought it back after The Reichenbach Fall because the fan theories over how Sherlock survived the jump were far more coherent than what we wound up with (which is implied at the end to be yet another b.s excuse Sherlock gave Anderson anyway) {Spoiler} And on that note...Anderson's first theory is the right one. And that's only 'cause I 'ship Sherlock and Molly.

If memory serves they did this with The Bionic Woman reboot starring Michelle Ryan. They - and the British media - hyped it up as her big US break and a soap opera star making an international name for herself, and then went fairly quiet when the show was cancelled. It was a similar story with Anna Friel and Pushing Daisies. Pushing Daisies deserved better ^ THE FACTS WERE THESE.

There's the matter of the guy playing Superman on that show (Dean Cain) turning to a massive asshole in recent years, so much so, that the CW basically exiled him from being a regular on Supergirl.

I dont know how well promoted the Superboy TV series was though. I know it was syndicated but I never saw commercials or promos for it. I initially only knew it existed because of a small article in Boys Life. Later I happened to click onto an episode in the last 5 minutes. And I never saw it on the TV schedule again.

Yeah aware of his political opinions but at the same time he's volunteered as a police officer reserve and helps out folk in trouble. I don't know what to think here - some cases actions speak louder than words but those words are troublesome. I'll leave it at that.

There was this one Fox show called “Lone Star” with James Wolk as this con man living double lives who wants to go good, and his dad’s all “no, you can’t go straight, let’s get that paper”. It got a ton of hype with a pretty significant campaign and all the magazines were raving about it. Like, they were expecting this to be the new Dallas. Then it airs two episodes and poof, it’s gone like that. Shame IMO, it had potential. True story, I have a shower curtain that has a big picture of Times Square, and the only way you can tell it was taken in 2010 is because of the GIANT 'Lone Star' billboard in the middle of it.

Side note, what the f*** is with so many of these shows debuting in the 2010-2011 fall season? And then being cancelled immediately? Like, what was affecting the network TV zeitgeist?

(And I'm not kidding a out the comic thing, DC/Wildstorm ought to have sued over the similarity to Sleeper lol)

Season one at least felt like something unique, it was almost Lynchian in how it blurred those lines but was still rooted in reality. In season two, the staff basically tried to out-Wire the Wire and it didn't work. Wound up being the dollar store version of a superior product. I haven't seen the third yet, but I've heard good stuff about it.

Oh, I can't believe we forgot to mention him. Maybe you all tried to purge him from your memory, but it counts.
The Fox bigwigs hyped the hell out of Allen Gregory. Like, it was advertised during baseball games. They expected this to be the new King of the Hill. And holy *shit* it was bad. I don't know if there was a single likable character, art looked like trash. I don't mind Jonah Hill, but dude, the hell were you thinking with that?

I think they saw how popular Stewie was and thought they could base an entire show around a character like that.
